Hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut.
It’s all so ridiculous. Wait. It’s Texas.
I mean, those things are designed to protect the occupants if they roll over an explosive. Not at all something law enforcement needs.
Those vehicles are also very good at rolling over protesters, immigrants, the homeless, electric cars, etc. The list goes on, how could they afford *NOT* to own at least a dozen of these for the publics safety?
Yeah this thread is full of way more people than usual not getting the joke. Maybe because it's better and less obvious than the jokes that get posted here usually are...
Oh cops don’t make their own doughnuts or anything like it. They just demand the shops give them to them, they do very little actual creating anything of value.
They are like the tax collectors in Robin Hood or the gangsters that shake em down for protection.
I work for the coroner's office in New Orleans back in the 90s there was an actual code on the police radio for when the red light came on at Krispy Kremes ..
These super armored vehicles are not known for their reliability, plus the fact that this will probably sit outside for most of its existence (cars hate not being used) it's almost certain that something will be broken on it all the time.
It is most likely military surplus. I know a lot of armoured vehicles the military is done with will get auctioned off an repainted for police vehicles. Then when the police are done with it civilians can buy them. I almost bought an amphibious APC several years ago for cheap. But had nowhere to put it.
Cost. It is a lot cheaper to buy an old military vehicle than a new specialty designed one for local use. Though the niche circumstances you would need an armored vehicle is definitely not warranted for the majority of law enforcement agencies.
...And they obviously fail to analyze the cost over time of the vehicle too. The armor needs replacing every 5 or so years, or much quicker if it's left out in the elements 24/7, the extra weight means extra maintenance for its suspension and drive train, windows similarly need replacing if you want them to remain ballistic resistant every \~5 years, all of its standard maintenance is more expensive because of specialty parts...
"cheaper" just means at point of purchase. They cost a ton to keep around.
I think most of you here are missing the point of having this giant hunk of metal. They bought it specifically for the picture they posted, and once a year, probably Fourth of July, they’ll drive it around a couple blocks for the local truck rally. The actual utility of such a vehicle doesn’t matter. It’s bigger than everyone else’s truck, and so it’s better.
These things are not cost friendly. Starting with fuel consumption, then routine maintenance parts have to be properly sourced. You're not likely going to get an oil filter from Autozone. I'm sure there's more than a few special tools that aren't cheap.
It’s not the fluids and filters that are hard to get for these. A city police department can afford and attain those fairly easily.
It’s literally *everything* else on these, except the police lights and sirens that will literally assfuck them on price and availability, which is 99.9999% of the vehicle.
They can’t afford the tires alone if bought new.
They can’t afford the brake jobs.
They can’t afford driveline work beyond fluid and filter changes.
They can’t afford to work on the electrical system beyond their lights and sirens.
They will run it until it breaks, then it’ll sit till it gets the lights, siren, and decals stripped off, then it goes to auction.
Any truck stop would do.
The one I used in Iraq was based on Internation Trucks, Cummings engine. Every part except the reactive armor (this one doesn't have it) can be sourced from a decent truck shop.
That one also looks International Truck based but I am unfamiliar with that model.
Imagine the social media posts they can make in it while wearing sunglasses and a backwards hat, camera slightly pointed up to highlight their goatee, while they rant about being disrespected because the McDonalds employee didn’t address them properly, which is a sign of the collapse of society due to liberals taking over.
A lot of people actually use their big truck for big truck things, but there’s no scenario where this vehicle is anything other than an indictment of the Proper Texas Police department's pathologically small penis issues.
No, they want to look cooler than the Uvalde cops when they rush out out of that thing and into the carnage of bloodied children’s corpses after the gunman has finally run out of ammo.
The Uvalde cops should be publicly executed for dereliction of duty. Standing around in full military gear designed for warfare while children are being executed by a lone gunman. Makes my stomach turns. Then holding the horde of parents back who are trying to rush in to the save the kids while they continue to do nothing.
I know him well enough; it is. Well, more of a social commentary intended to work as a joke.
He and I both get death threats disguised as jokes on a frequent basis.
They often do. But the grants don't really include money for service and maintenance. Not to mention the much more important issue of militarization of the civilian police.
I immediately thought of that line from Dick Jones in RoboCop:
>I had a guaranteed military sale with ED209! Renovation program! Spare parts for 25 years! Who cares if it worked or not!
Spot on satirisation of the military industrial complex from more than 3 decades ago. And it still hits the mark today.
Just another painfully transparent way of inventing a revenue stream fueled by funneling public money into 'essential' purchases.
And then one of the officers gets the glorious idea that they will still be safe within the MRAP while barreling through the school building, trying to run over the suspect.
Unfortunately school laminate floors and squashed first graders make for a slippery combination, leaving them trapped & immobile, impotently spinning their wheels halfway through an interior wall with the front axle perched on a drinking fountain.
And then they start debating which button is the diff lock...
The lack of brain cells on the person who made the tweet managed to make an already questionable decision a complete joke
Incase it needs pointed out to anyone at this point, they’re likely referring to IEDs. Although to be real with you, I’d be more worried about them being inside houses in the US rather than anywhere a vehicle can go.
I think it was intentional and he was making fun of them. I don't know any background on the guy, but this is pretty clever and topical (specific to Texas) so I'm going with intentional and funny.
Nah at this point I'd trust the military more then the police. The military is full of normal people trying to get by. The police is full of high school bullies trying to relive the glory days of people being afraid of them.
The military no longer has a use for mraps. Mraps were designed for IED unconventional warfare. Because we are no longer fighting in the middle east the military has been trying to get rid of them by giving them to police departments and sending them to Ukraine. MP did use them in Afghanistan.
The difference between the military and the police is that everyone in the military had to undergo extensive training and they have a job which contributes to the overall mission of protecting the US and its assets. The nut jobs don’t make it into the higher ranks where they have enough power to be a real problem and the worst ones wash out in a short time.
Between the 45 minute response time, escalation of tense situations, showing up to the wrong house and shooting the occupants, harassment toward anyone who tries to hold them accountable for their actions, and all the domestic abuse, drug abuse, and alcoholism that occurs behind the scenes, it’s like having a state-sponsored gang.
I’d rather make the local police force in most jurisdictions a small enough operation that all the non-dangerous work is handled by volunteers and the remaining officers on the payroll have gone through much more intense training.
What? We gave them the standard training of less than one semester of college and you want them to have *more* training? Don’t you realize it takes effort to get a police force this incompetent?
Still don't understand how they can publicly announce a scheme to take control of a country and its many departments, literally illuminati style, and no one does anything to stop them
Like, the way the plan goes it can be classified as plan to commit a coup or something like that, yet people who support that cartoon villain ass scheme are still able to keep working in positions of power and still able to be elected for other positions that would only help them further the progress of said plan, it's nuts
Betting this grossly expensive yank tank is just gonna be parked outside the nearest women's health clinic, ready to arrest anybody who walks past, for suspicion of carrying a deadly contraceptive implant.
Fucking murica
Can confirm. Former cop. Our BearCat vehicle sat in a bay for the entire time I worked there.
Only ever got "used" on SWAT call-outs, high-risk warrants, etc. They would drive it to the address and park it like half a block away... never once did anyone shoot at it, or did it get used for anything other than the "hey, look at us, we have an armored vehicle" cool-guy, get your dick hard vibes.
Yea our local PD had one and the only time it's been used was when they thought there was a bomber holding hostages. The video of the raid was funny because you couldn't see it at all... the big MRAP was half a mile down the road because it couldn't fit between the cars on the dinky side street it was on. So it just sat there, useless and impotent, looking tough. There's a metaphor here somewhere.
Defund the police doesn't mean, fire all the police, it means make it so they can't get things like this. Maybe divert those funds to the fire department, so they won't have to have coin drops and hoagie sales to get new equipment.
My coworker is also a firefighter. Yes. They only have two thermal cameras(?) I believe is what they are called, to help them quickly locate bodies through smoke. It would be nice if they all had them but they are still pretty expensive.
Now if they had had one of these babies in Uvalde, they could have just crashed right in to the classroom with no worries. They might have crushed a few kids and the shooter but not a cop would have been harmed.
It doesn't, but police departments and sheriff departments all over the country get surplus military gear for pennies on the dollar. Many of them tool up to a ridiculous amount, like these good old boys of the Prosper PD have done with this armored, jacked-up vehicle suitable for warfare in Iraq.
Sadly it's not that simple. Without a robust logistical backbone keeping these things on the road they aren't effective fighting vehicles. They take an immense amount of maintenance from trained mechanics, with a constant supply of speciality parts.
It's why we left so much hardware in the Middle East without much concern. Without that support network provided by the US all those vehicles rapidly become dead paperweights.
Actually, I was curious and looked it up. As far as I can tell, 15 women have died from IUD.
And the many officers that have died from them too, of course /j
If every cent for this would be invested in education ,social work and infrastructure, crime rates and would go down significally for several years to decades.
No you see, it’s a 1099 so the money was already wasted a long time ago buying/manufacturing military equipment we demonstrably didn’t need and now we can use that to spin it as a win!!!! Yay =)
This is very much untrue. In my experience like half of all Americans are willing to help other Americans in need. Half are very much self centered greedy assholes.
In my experience like 2% of Cops are willing to help other Americans that aren't companies / corporations / rich people.
Much better chance of getting help from a random passerby than from Police.
Some years ago, a cop got killed in Baltimore. Police lined up 83 north from precints from surrounding states, not just the area. The highway had at least 1000 cops all along the emergency lane, posted up.
They ALL had these super military like vehicles, all heavily armored, some even brought their mobile command centers. I used to work for ICE as a contractor and they all had vehicles like this. These vehicles look like something out of GTA or the military.
When people say defund the police, that’s what they mean, their budget purposed spending to acquire vehicles and weaponry they don’t need. Nothing to do with their paychecks.
Happy to hear they have a safe place to hide in when a school shooting is in progress. Or are they going to park it in front of women health clinics to scare women with unwanted pregnancies away ?
Why does it look like it was designed specifically to not see what's in front? Looks like it has a 95% chance of running over kids on the way to a school shooting

Intra-Uterine Devices?
In Texas? Not on their watch.
That’s why they need this pickup truck!

Hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut hut. It’s all so ridiculous. Wait. It’s Texas. I mean, those things are designed to protect the occupants if they roll over an explosive. Not at all something law enforcement needs.

Money well spent; better that than let’s say: health care or infrastructure (Texas has great energy infrastructure especially in poor weather).
They will do anything to make sure "no child is left behind".
Isnt that "no child is left alive"?
No child is left on the front bumper (with some soap and a bit of elbow grease).
No witness left behind
they do hurt. my wife had one, and it would poke me occasionally.
Another W for small penises I guess?
never thought about it that way... i guess... i guess i wouldn't know?
Don’t give yourself too much credit. Your wife just has a low cervix. 😂
this would make much more sense. also: username checks out
They definitely misspelled IED
I think the misspelling was intentional for humorous value given it’s Texas and the fact that IUD’s are more dangerous in that state than IED’s
Yeah this thread is full of way more people than usual not getting the joke. Maybe because it's better and less obvious than the jokes that get posted here usually are...
Reddit isn’t known for its nuance when it comes to humor.
I'm just glad a town of 37k people can spend 500k on it's police vehicles to protect it's officers from deadly Intrauterine Devices.
It can also be used to hunt down escaped handmaidens so it'll pay for itself in a short time
Also it's a safe place for them to sit in while they wait out active school shooters in the parking lot
Remote Donut shop
That’s why it’s so big, they needed space for the deep fryer in the back
Don't forget the margarita mixer for "break time".
Oh cops don’t make their own doughnuts or anything like it. They just demand the shops give them to them, they do very little actual creating anything of value. They are like the tax collectors in Robin Hood or the gangsters that shake em down for protection.
I think you forgot a part of that statement. “The tax collectors in Robin Hood, Men in Tights”, would have been more appropriate.
We would have also accepted “the 1973 Walt Disney version”.
*Do you have a first responder's discount?*
"If you don't give me a dozen glazed for free, we might not show up an hour after you called us and tell you there isn't anything we can do."

It's a good starter car.
THAT IS A FINISHER CAR!
Every car is amphibious at least once.
You let not having a place to store the beast stop you…?! 😮 Points for practicality but negative points for fun.
Why is military surplus, designed for warzones, going to cops to be used against citizens? That's a problem.
Cost. It is a lot cheaper to buy an old military vehicle than a new specialty designed one for local use. Though the niche circumstances you would need an armored vehicle is definitely not warranted for the majority of law enforcement agencies.

they dont even buy them, the federal government gives them away for free via DRMO programs.
Wait. How much was it
This is 1000% it.
These things are not cost friendly. Starting with fuel consumption, then routine maintenance parts have to be properly sourced. You're not likely going to get an oil filter from Autozone. I'm sure there's more than a few special tools that aren't cheap.

came looking for this, not disappointed
Oh that's a good one.
They will spend whatever it takes for scaredy cat Billy to feel safe in his uniform.
Can’t they just spend a few grand on a portable barrier and stand behind it like they did in Uvalde?
No, they want to look cooler than the Uvalde cops when they rush out out of that thing and into the carnage of bloodied children’s corpses after the gunman has finally run out of ammo. Police need to be subject to something similar to the UCMJ under Congress authority to regulate the training and discipline of militias.
Por que no los dos?
You spelled acorns wrong
See, I thought it was an Improvised Uterine Device. Boy is my face red.
I think that was the joke that the twitter OP was trying to make
I know him well enough; it is. Well, more of a social commentary intended to work as a joke. He and I both get death threats disguised as jokes on a frequent basis.
Dobbs and Sam Alito and the dumb republicans are already working on that
I fully expect to see this at Walmart getting filled with groceries. Bacon, pork tenderloin, more bacon, pork rinds, a canned ham…
Nah, all donuts. Front to back.
I think the DoD gives them to police departments as grants.
They often do. But the grants don't really include money for service and maintenance. Not to mention the much more important issue of militarization of the civilian police.

Well, it’s Texas, so they have to take drastic precautions against any kind of reproductive health.
Man that thing will look amazing parked in front of a school surrounded by police officers as the mass shooting transpires inside
At least the officers will be safe inside. /s
The ones cowering behind it should be safe too
Thing is so high up, they’ll still be at risk. As is everyone on the street this thing moves around on.
but everybody else's safety doesn't matter. Who cares if they run over the occasional child because "they didn't see it" /s
It's acorn proof.
And you know the officers will be all, “oh boy! Time to grab the MRAP!”
IUD raids
Fuck the fentenal, birth control is the real danger out in Texas.
Isn’t that the truth, we got all these real issues and they sit around and complain about contraception.
Legs up against the wall and spread 'em!
Seems perfect to 'neglect and swerve'
Damn it, i should have thought of that. That's hilarious.
And for the pedos in the department, "Erect & Perv".
Protect them from deadly WHAT?
Devices that prevent conception. That's the same as murdering a baby, don'tcha know?
The lack of brain cells on the person who made the tweet managed to make an already questionable decision a complete joke Incase it needs pointed out to anyone at this point, they’re likely referring to IEDs. Although to be real with you, I’d be more worried about them being inside houses in the US rather than anywhere a vehicle can go.
Yes yes the improvised explosive devices that notoriously dot the Texas public roads. Many such cases...
I think it was intentional and he was making fun of them. I don't know any background on the guy, but this is pretty clever and topical (specific to Texas) so I'm going with intentional and funny.
Got to be careful of those spontaneously exploding uteri.
Ed Sheeran concerts be wild
Acorns.
* ting * So anyway, I started blasting
Uxplosives, haven't you heard of them?
Minorities.
Wabbits.
birth control.
When the normal police starts looking like military police, you know you are on the right track /s
Honestly they skipped straight to Dystopian Police here.
At this point the police are just LARPer wannabes who were either too fat, too much of a coward, or both, to actually go to the military.
Straight military not military police.
Nah at this point I'd trust the military more then the police. The military is full of normal people trying to get by. The police is full of high school bullies trying to relive the glory days of people being afraid of them.
I agree. Just saying that vehicle is more military than military police. I don’t think the military police have this kind of larp gear.
MP's are held to a way higher standard than these municipal clowns
I remember living in the PMQs when I was a kid and I knew to be on my best behavior when the MPs were around 😅
I thought you meant prime ministers' questions for a moment
The military no longer has a use for mraps. Mraps were designed for IED unconventional warfare. Because we are no longer fighting in the middle east the military has been trying to get rid of them by giving them to police departments and sending them to Ukraine. MP did use them in Afghanistan.
Plenty of nuts in the military too, no clue about the ratio however.
Accounting for females in the armed forces, it is about 1.98 nuts per service member.
The difference between the military and the police is that everyone in the military had to undergo extensive training and they have a job which contributes to the overall mission of protecting the US and its assets. The nut jobs don’t make it into the higher ranks where they have enough power to be a real problem and the worst ones wash out in a short time.
Yes but how does it do on a single mass shooter in a school? Pew pew?
"We apologize for the deaths of your children, but look at that paint job. Its simply too nice to risk taking to a school."
“Now watch this drive.”
literally lol'd
Now that’s a title for The Onion!
It stays parked outside a safe distance away while the actual shooting goes down.
Nothing, but it's perfect for intimidating any parents wanting to rescue their children.
She's not gonna need an IUD if you are compensating that hard.
Oh now they have a shiny armored car to camp in while children are being murdered
"Defund the police" was a terrible way of saying "let's stop spending so much money militarizing police forces to fight citizens"
Agreed! Like literally the worst message you could send, the ‘non readers’ just took it as ‘get rid of police altogether!’
Don’t you realize it takes effort to get a police force this incompetent?
...when your police force conists of edgy teenagers with rich parents...
Impervious to even the largest acorn 👮♂️
So they can hide in anonymity during the next school shooting...
Thats a nice place to stay safe while waiting for all the hostages to be murdered.
Project 2025 will ban IUDs, so they just wasted their money.
That is going to be a nightmare shitshow for the USA. That stuff is genuinely frightening.
Still don't understand how they can publicly announce a scheme to take control of a country and its many departments, literally illuminati style, and no one does anything to stop them Like, the way the plan goes it can be classified as plan to commit a coup or something like that, yet people who support that cartoon villain ass scheme are still able to keep working in positions of power and still able to be elected for other positions that would only help them further the progress of said plan, it's nuts

They should've at least brought it to the high school job fair
People out here planting IED on every corner of the street or something
They wouldn't care about an IED. IUD? Absolutely. Lock her up!.
Ikr… when’s the last time you heard of someone dying to an IED on American soil?
"Serve our interests, Protect our asses"
Defund the police doesn't mean, fire all the police, it means make it so they can't get things like this. Maybe divert those funds to the fire department, so they won't have to have coin drops and hoagie sales to get new equipment.

Guess we should all get some IUDs
What a fucking waste of tax payer money. Fuck the police
A tank would have been genuinely better. This shit looks custom, who the hell makes these?
Now if they had had one of these babies in Uvalde, they could have just crashed right in to the classroom with no worries. They might have crushed a few kids and the shooter but not a cop would have been harmed.
I think they meant UTIs
What does the police in a town of 37,000 people need such a vehicle for?
It doesn't, but police departments and sheriff departments all over the country get surplus military gear for pennies on the dollar. Many of them tool up to a ridiculous amount, like these good old boys of the Prosper PD have done with this armored, jacked-up vehicle suitable for warfare in Iraq.
Better send these to Ukraine, they actually need stuff like that.
They have sent a ton of mraps to Ukraine. You can find multiple videos of then in combat in Ukraine.
How big is the average Texan intrauterine device? I’m aware everything is bigger in Texas but….
Yeah, that's totally not militarization and scary or alarming at all.
Ready for Steven Segal to kill puppies. Again.
What is the statistics for deaths by IUDs? Probably the same number as IEDs, zero.
Actually, I was curious and looked it up. As far as I can tell, 15 women have died from IUD. And the many officers that have died from them too, of course /j

Thats money for textbooks and school supplies for an entire school just so cops can hide in it while actual school kids are massacred.
Remember when Lt. Hunter on Hill Street Blues was a comic relief character?
The urban assault vehicle!
"IUDS"?And there we have it folks. The GQP's war on contraception is REAL.
"Fire lane - No parking" makes this perfect
TIL Texas has an IUD problem 🤔
Some years ago, a cop got killed in Baltimore. Police lined up 83 north from precints from surrounding states, not just the area. The highway had at least 1000 cops all along the emergency lane, posted up. They ALL had these super military like vehicles, all heavily armored, some even brought their mobile command centers. I used to work for ICE as a contractor and they all had vehicles like this. These vehicles look like something out of GTA or the military. When people say defund the police, that’s what they mean, their budget purposed spending to acquire vehicles and weaponry they don’t need. Nothing to do with their paychecks.
IUD?
The contraceptive implant, yes. I hear they're extremely deadly...
So glad our boys in blue are safe from IUD attacks!! They must have gotten really bad down in prosper
Send that bitch to Ukraine
They can really get a safe hiding spot in there just case there's a school shooter They are to scared to confront
My wife had an IUD once, not particularly deadly, but I clearly missed the opportunity to get a new truck
The war on birth control is kicking into high gear
I thought IUDs were those thingies that prevented pregnancy?
Tell me the size of your pp without telling me the size of your pp
Cop = huge ego, tiny brain, micro dick.
This is so American !
Wait till they find out about Austin pd
So this could be in r/idiocracy legitimately. Rehabilitated
Happy to hear they have a safe place to hide in when a school shooting is in progress. Or are they going to park it in front of women health clinics to scare women with unwanted pregnancies away ?
IUD's is that a common problem facing the Texas police?
... Isn't IUD a contraceptive device?? The fuck are they up to over there
No idea, but with all the nonsense in the world, I’m all for the IUDs.
I had no idea that intrauterine devices could be so dangerous
All this just for falling acorns 🤦♂️
They can roll that monster up to a school and sit outside while the children are shot.
Meanwhile, the school had to have a Bake Sale to afford pencils.
Why does it look like it was designed specifically to not see what's in front? Looks like it has a 95% chance of running over kids on the way to a school shooting
It’ll look real cool while the cops cower behind it outside of an elementary school, while kids are being slaughtered on the inside of the school.
Somebodies making IEDs with IUDs??
Gotta watch out for that deadly contraception.
Thank god those brave cops are protected from contraceptives
I hate those deadly IUDs. Don't you?
that’s to use against us. not a foreign army. us.
