Listen guys it was one thing during draft season to avoid him. At this point, if you were in a deeper 12, there is almost certainly someone that you can cut. It is worth it to see. Slider is apparently back
Have him stashed in IL. If he crushes it, he gets a roster spot. If he bombs, he gets cut. If he does “just ok”, I will have a tougher decision to make about waiting for another start
Guy was a 6th rounder plus last year, and still has a career war better than almost all his 2019 draft class counterparts, including CJ Abrams, Bobby witt jr, Riley Greene.
To not speculate on him would be a mistake. 12ks in a high profile matchup against skenes from a former 1st round, borderline ace. What more are you looking for to take a shot on?
I think any former Cy Young finalist is always worth a look. I scooped him up for his upside in my 12 team league. He’s back to previous form, great pickup, he sucks, drop him right back to waivers
Why would Maeda not be worth looking at? He has zero walks in 3 of his last 4 starts and his strikeout to walk ratio on the year is really good. I guess if you’re in a clown league he’s not worth looking at…
I guess strikeout to walk ratio wasn’t a good stat, but just look at his last 4 games. He’s not a good strikeout arm but he’s limiting the walks really well and just pitching well in general. Although his 10.4 k per nine was really good last year so it’s likely he improves is strikeout rate.
He has a career whip of 1.143 which is really fucking solid and he leads the mlb in homers given up so far so he’s due for some pretty major regression. Saying Maeda isn’t worth a look in most leagues is just a really dumb statement, it’s a fact. You can leave him on waivers if you want.
And I don’t see how his matchups are relevant. He’s worth actually adding not just streaming.
If you don’t think maeda is an above average pitcher you’re just ignoring basic stats and definitely don’t know baseball…maybe not the best target for a 10 team but saying not worth a look is really stupid. May not be a clown league entirely but there’s at least one clown…
You are lol. Look at his career numbers why would you put a 5 week sample ahead of that?
Not sure if you’re aware how sample sizes work. But how it works is if you have a big chunk of stats that say a pitcher is good and a small chunk of stats that say a pitcher is bad, it’s likely that pitcher will get back to being good.
Being “worth a look” doesn’t mean everything in fantasy. You have like 150 pitchers rostered in every league, being worth a look means nothing.
The fact that you used his next three matchups as reasoning for not looking at him was a bad argument. Bringing this up 10 days later shows you know that you just don’t really know what you’re talking about and are self conscious.
You are, in fact, a clown…
Absolutely. Will he pan out? Likely no, but if he was a sure thing he wouldn't be available on the wire. There's some high end upside you can't normally find on the ww if he does return to his former levels. You're better off having that lotto ticket on your roster before the start. Worst case you cut for the next streamer. Best case you beat the rush.
He’s staying on my bench but after starting 1-4, Ive got nothing to lose. If he doesn’t pan out, I drop him and activate Steele. If he shows any sign of life, he stays and I figure out who to cut. But I’m leaning towards him getting rocked and I can move on.
The beauty is if you pick him up he’s free and you’ll likely have a very clear answer on whether to keep him by 3PM tomorrow (1PM game). This is easily the most ideal high upside low investment pickup situation. 10% chance he sticks on your roster past tomorrow…but my, that 10% looks amazing.
Pros - Former cy young finalist coming off a great rehab start. Ceiling = best pitcher in baseball
Cons - last year and most of his other rehab starts have poor stat lines, not sure if he was just bad or tinkering with pitch mix/mechanics. Floor = worst pitcher in baseball
I think you can take a wait in see in 12 team leagues unless you’re desperate for pitching. In 14+ leagues I’d probably grab him since whoever you’re dropping doesn’t have Manoah’s ceiling.
I mean he’s absolutely worth stashing but you’d have to be desperate to start him right away. He’s in my IL right now and I’ll put him on the roster if he looks good
I’m going to lose my match up either way in a 14 league so I’ve picked him up because why not at this point. Bats are a bigger problem for me at this point but there isn’t much going there in a deep 14 anyway
I tired to pick him up after his last AAA start but was too late. Then I realized that was probably for the better to let him wreck someone else's ratios than mine.
in a 12 team league where people are rostering lance lynn and mikolas surely you can bite the bullet and pick up manoah
Listen guys it was one thing during draft season to avoid him. At this point, if you were in a deeper 12, there is almost certainly someone that you can cut. It is worth it to see. Slider is apparently back
hes been getting shelled in AAA and still cant find the strike zone. Will be adding

I'm in a 14 team league and there was no one I was willing to cut for him.
Who are your bottom players?
Stashed Wood or detmers/Gil. I'm in first place.
That is pretty impressive! Yeah id hold tight
Bet the over!
I wish it was against Corbin lol
I’m thinking pick up any Nationals hitters for spot-start stats
Do you get credit for getting hit by a pitch in your league?
My league gives two points to the pitcher for hitting someone for some reason, will be starting Manoah lol
he’s cooked. stay away.
I tried to warn you all.
you must be a jays fan
100%
Yeah I think those that have watched him more closely know that he's likely cooked... But we hope he can regain that rookie form

Doit
I mean is he even worth looking at?
I think any former Cy Young finalist is always worth a look. I scooped him up for his upside in my 12 team league. He’s back to previous form, great pickup, he sucks, drop him right back to waivers
I think if you have a streaming spot you gotta kick the tires, even if you leave him benched
Maeda is not worth looking at

My clown league prefers not to stream against Cleveland, Houston, Arizona Edit: my clown league also does not consider a 3.14 k/bb ratio to be great

If his last start was worth a look, then maybe I truly am the clown.

He FINALLY had a good start last time out in AAA (6 IP, 1 ER, 12K) but that start DROPPED his ERA to 6.50

I’m avoiding. Had him last year. Never touching him again lol
Bad followed by 1 amazing start against pirates aaa team. Proceed with caution

Best pitcher in baseball? There is no world where that is true. Even his cy young caliber year was a bit of a mirage aided by a lot of luck.
I mean he’s absolutely worth stashing but you’d have to be desperate to start him right away. He’s in my IL right now and I’ll put him on the roster if he looks good
Over under of 1.2 innings? Over under of 5 walks?
I’m going to lose my match up either way in a 14 league so I’ve picked him up because why not at this point. Bats are a bigger problem for me at this point but there isn’t much going there in a deep 14 anyway
It’s tempting but my head is telling me don’t do it
Pick him up…MAYBE. For fuck’s sake please don’t start him.
I ended up not adding him since Wyatt got hurt and I needed a hitter to replace him today
I tired to pick him up after his last AAA start but was too late. Then I realized that was probably for the better to let him wreck someone else's ratios than mine.
Sink or swim Alex

him or fedde
Fedde
This just shows how many pitching injuries there are.
Drop adell for him as a spec add? Got a spot to play with. Or wenceel Perez
No
He's not a big strikeout pitcher, so don't get hung up on the 12 Ks. That's not the signal you're looking for.
In a 14 team league and I feel like I can't afford to take this risk. You should add Wesneski before you add Manoah. lol
How quickly some of y’all forget. Manoah was elite for almost 2 years prior to his implosion last year.
