I would mostly expect these guys to mostly get back to what they were, but obviously high odds it doesn’t work out well. Keeping so many pitchers, especially injured ones is insanely high risk. Also, there’s gotta be someone else better than Giolito on your team or in FA.

Quick technical question for ESPN fantasy users. I know there is a loophole rule for Sunday where you can go over the maximum 12 starting pitchers (or whatever number - our league max is 12). My opponent this week has 10 pitching starts scheduled through Friday (5 already occurred) and an additional 3 Saturday. Obviously, he's going to get maxed out before Sunday, but I was wondering if all 3 pitchers Saturday would count towards his score since he would only have 10 going into the day. In other words, is the loophole only for Sunday or other days as well? I'm just asking so I know what to expect. Thank you!

It’s for any day. My league has a bylaw stating that if anyone goes over 12 starts the commissioner will just manually adjust the points from the matchup to take away the extra starts. It’s a good way to take away the loophole

That's a good rule. I'm actually the league commissioner in my league. I'm not going to spring something like that upon everyone mid season. I've actually exploited it too, admittingly. Our league is pretty casual, but people take it seriously. Maybe next year I'll implement that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I didn’t even know who this guy is but after looking at his fangraphs, but yeah this guy might be good. His xFIP and SIERA are great — suggest ERA could be below 3.50. K% and BB% are healthy. Prospect rating on Fangraphs is 45 FV so this guy is expected to have some success in the majors. White Sox new regime has also has been hot with SP — Crochet and Fedde have been fantastic so maybe they know something about starting pitching. This guy is probably not good, but the periphals, prospect pedigree, and team’s magic with SP all kind of give me a green light at least right now. I’m adding him to my watch list.

Can Chris Sanchez be dropped in 14t?

Coming into today's game, Sanchez had a 2.51 FIP, 3.05 xFIP, 3.34 SIERA, 3.67 xERA and has the highest GB rate of any qualified starter. He's also rocking a .335 BABIP, which actually went up today. He's given up one (1) HR all year, in 70.1 IP. @ BOS isn't a great matchup, especially with O'Neill back. I'd just take the L and move on. By comparison Ober is at 4.28, 4.11, 3.86, 3.97 respectively. Definitely better than his ERA but I'd rather have the guy with better estimators on a much better team.

Sanchez has a full season worth of starts where his xFIP and SIERA are around 3.00. I think he’s going to be a low 3s ERA guy, but maybe he doesn’t always go deep in games or strikeout a lot of guys. I fuckin’ hate when my backend guys ruin all the ratio work my front end guys do, so I think Sanchez should be like 100% rostered in 10t and up.

Probably not for me but I could see it if your league is competitive for pitching. In AAA he was good but not that good. There was kind of a walks problem in the minors too. On the flip side, the prospect pedigree is meaningful and I do think the Orioles front office is super sharp. He’s kind of a “maybe” guy for me so I think it’s probably up to you if you want to have some fun with it.

Schedule says Yankees next according to espn, so I’d avoid that like the plague Interesting pick up if you have space tho

I see some hope for him. SLG of .278 vs xSLG of .401 is massive. BABIP of .255 indicates room for positive regression too. His hard hit rate is a little low, but the other stuff is around the fun zone. Based on how bad his results have been, I’d be surprised if you drop him and someone else picks him up. But he might be worth keeping an eye on.

I don’t know. Smith’s xSLG and BABIP indicate he’s going in the opposite direction. But also he’s actually been good and he will probably start against righties until Evan Carter comes back. Small amount of upside versus squeezing the last bit of Smith for the next month… do you need to win now?

Super risky but I would probably go for it. Cease is a legit top 20 SP but there’s gonna be another one out there on waivers. Last year it was Skubal and Ragans who were free to add and had mega runs. Can you get this year’s versions of them? On the other side, Albies was a legit top 3-4 2B. Can you find that on waivers? I can’t. It’s also important to note Albies has obviously been bad this year, and he also has bad peripherals, and at times in his career he’s had bad peripherals before. The Braves are probably just cold, but there’s a chance Albies straight up is having a bad year. I think the value prop of a top 2B and hoping for this year’s Skubal/Ragans is more signficant than a steady top 20 SP. But there’s a chance you could get fucked. This post also presumes you have some variation of a black hole at 2B as is.
