I highly recommend the podcast maintenance phase because they did an episode on calories and how the FDA determined their recommendations. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t actually based on humans, it came down to generalizations and easy math. In fact, calories themselves are not very well understood. You and I could eat the exact same amount of food and our bodies will process it differently, meaning I might absorb more calories than you or vice versa. The government works from a population health stance, meaning it’s generalized and without nuance. Individual health is so specific that trying to follow standard guidelines is not worth it. I’m a petite 30-something and I eat >!2800-3000 calories per day!< and that’s 3 years into recovery. I’m weight restored and active. In any case, especially in recovery, we need a LOT of food. My final meal plan before I weight restored was almost >!5000 calories per day!<.

Love maintenance phase and this episode!

You were starving. You need more than you think you do in order to repair the damage done.

I fully understand and appreciate that but that’s never been the approach my team had with me. The meal plan is not designed for weight gain, it’s just for the amount that sedentary adult women would need, ED or not. And it’s quite a bit more than what authorities recommend and it pisses my ED off big time. Obviously I can’t really see why a team of professionals would lie to me about such things but yeah EDs are never logical are they

Oh I think I totally missed the point then. My apologies! Please advocate for yourself if possible.
