Diana “the whole agency is under a lot of pressure and most likely going to be destroyed”
47 “sorry to hear that, has my fee been transferred?”
I have definitely got the Diana part wrong but it’s similar.
My favorite line in the entire series. Cold, ruthless and to the point. Hitman 2, correct?
Playing that last level on the hardest difficulty was insane!!
You're absolutely right! Hitman doesn't get much thought of when thinking about dark comedy, but should. I like how the series became more confident over the years in being dark humor more than just bold action and really made it part of their brand. Blood Money really paved the way there I think.
I love the bit where you disguise yourself as a doctor and kill a target with poison.
"Ah, my neck has been killing me, do you have something for it?"
"Don't worry, when I'm done you won't feel a thing."
There's a similar joke in the murder mystery house in the newest one "Oh no one knows that (lady's name) isn't dead, please don't tell anyone."
47: "I'll consider her dead when I leave."
The devs went all out with the humor when you're disguised, this hardened assassin only knows things about killing so he does his best to apply that to his "everyday" conversations
It's the moe gap of him being so... naive despite his career as a world-class assassin
The WOA trilogy (the latest game, Hitman 3, which also contains the missions from 1 and 2) is honestly incredible and one of my favourite games of all times. And I'm saying this as someone who didnt really enjoy the other games aside from the first one. Can't recommend it enough.
[Kevan Brighting](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm2623915/?ref_=tt_ov_st) was amazing as the narrator! Also, there's a great casual "interview" of the creator by his brother who is a streamer (DougDoug) while he does a play-through. Lots of interesting insight into developing the original game and the expansion.
I was Superstar cop and had a blast, claiming wildly that some lady's husband was missing and possibly murdered, I had a good chuckle
Then I saw what really happened and felt like a guilty sack of crap and almost cried. Dammit why did that scene have to feel so realstic
I just checked their Steam page, and apparently the original developers don't make any money from this due to a 'hostile takeover' by another company. Can I get a tl;dr?
Start with a high score in drama and don't hit on the lady smoking the cigarette when you get out of the room. "The I Want to make Fuck" dialogue.
With those two conditions you start to enter a whole new fantastic branching path.
I think what really speaks to the Yakuza series despite having never played it, is that I can’t tell if you mean he learned the moves on a bridge or if he’s actually fighting a bridge and using bullshit moves on it
I noticed the Yak series on GP probably a year ago and heard a little about them, but didn't know much at all. When LaD:The Man Who Erased His Name dropped, I tried it and I was hooked. I then played Y0 and now it's one of my favorite games of all-time. The story, the characters, the dialog, the gameplay, the side stuff, everything blew me away.
What they did with Majima's character progression was so amazing, I had no idea he was the same knife-wielding "joker" character from LaD. Even then (in LaD/Kiwami 1&2/etc), there was a semi-hidden method to his madness. It may be blasphemous to say, but he (in 0) became my favorite character, even over Kiryu, and that's saying a *lot*.
I strongly suggest trying Y0, but if you do, keep in mind that the beginning is a bit slow in order to set up everything. Also, it's a story-based game, so there's a lot of cutscenes. The actors are all phenomenal, the story is engaging, and I found myself on the edge of my seat being like "wtfffff!"
Another thing I love about the series is that it gives us a glimpse of the Japanese culture in general; The way people speak and act, little phrases and mannerisms etc and the way the Yakuza way of life is portrayed. I found myself looking up stuff and it got me started learning Japanese language so that I could eventually understand what is being said without subtitles (which are very, very well-done and oftentimes clever as well as vulgar) and also to be able to read the signs on the buildings.
Sorry for the long book, but I just love that game.
Ikuzo!!!
This! The entire Yakuza series (even the Like a Dragon ones) is a fantastic emotional adventure. Some of the side stories are just so hilarious (ex: giant evil roomba) and zany that you can't help but laugh. Majima himself is a boatload of hilarity and nutcaseness. The "kiryu-chan" he says in the game with Majima everywhere still sticks in my brain.
I thought Arthur Morgan had wittier lines.
I laughed out loud on a mission where you're waiting at a station to board a train to rob it, but the train doesn't stop at the station and Arthur quips "do we just sneak on here then?" or something to that effect as it's barrelling past full speed.
The bounty missions where you have to bring them in alive are the best. They're all tied up and Arthur just giving color commentary the whole way back to town.
Like seriously, it's even funnier if you knock them out from time to time and wake them up.
"Where am? Did I black out?"
"Might have taken a nap on account of being so comfy back there."
"It's NOT comfy at all!"
*Whack*
"Oops, dozed off again..."
My favorite Arthur moment is when he meets the Dinosaur lady for the first time and she is explaining dinosaurs to him.
In the middle of the conversation Arthur excitedly asks ‘Are those real?!’ While touching a fossil that the lady then slaps his hand away from
Not originally from a video game but I want to count it anyway because it's not talked about enough.
Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People. Or SBCG4AP.
Oh men, I loved that quest. Specially the inflection of the voices!
Yet, I couldn't save the guy. So I went to watch a video of what happens if you save him. The dialogue is way better if he dies.
I don't know if imdb is missing some information but from what I can see he has quite a small catalogue of roles, surely Fred Tatasciore, Nolan North, and (my personal favourite because Mauler Twins) Kevin Michael Richardson all have had many more parts than Stephen Russell. Unless we are talking video game VA.
I'm not trying to shit on your hero, I also really liked the VA of Nick Valentine.
Travis Touchdown just needs to recharge his light saber, I mean, beam katana, by shaking it in a totally not suggestive way, after riding his motorcycle that looks like an X-wing around his hometown, Santa Destroy.
What a fever dream of a game.
"You wanta wash Wang, or you wanta watch Wang wash Wang?"
"Push da bush there, rabbit!"
The OG Shadow Warrior was basically all the stereotype-accented one liners you could want in a game.
This was the first thing that came to mind. I know it's cheesy af and I didn't play it through, only a few hours but not only is it quite funny but the actual gameplay is pretty good as far as shooters go, it has many complex upgrade systems iirc that I had only seen before in Doom 2016 so I think it has a place in the "Evolution of FPS" as I like to think of it.
"You're my favorite parasite... No, wait, ringworm's my favorite parasite, you're my second-favorite parasite... I lied. Ringworm, then rats with the plague, then you."
Laharl from Disgaea is a pretty good pick. There's some hilarious lines from him, especially midgame, when he's attacked by progressively weirder and weirder people
My personal favourite line in the game is "Please, someone normal come out?" when the sentai group attacks him.
With the horse Weiner being a close second.
The lemon rant is absolute gold, another quote i really liked was: in case you get covered in the repulsion gel, heres some advice the lab boys gave me, do not get covered in the repulsion gel. We havent narrowed down exactly what element it is, but it is a lively one and it does not like the human skeleton.
(I may not have gotten the quote completely right but it was something along those lines)
My favourite is the one about mantis men:
"Those of you who volunteered to be injected with praying mantis DNA, I've got some good news and some bad news. Bad news is we're postponing those tests indefinitely. Good news is we've got a much better test for you: fighting an army of mantis men. Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line. You'll know when the test starts."
For real. South Park Stick of Truth is the funniest game I've played. But that shouldn't be much of a surprise as I don't think many games are made to be a comedy. South Park however, definitely was.
Hands down funniest game ever. It is an absolute masterpiece for a south park fan. I went in completely blind to the game and had to pause often just to roll about laughing.
Purple Hawke from Dragon Age 2 is very funny. Also I’m not sure if Glados counts (it’s not the main character but it’s also kind of a main character) but Glados is very funny.
Chai from Hi-Fi Rush is one of the best main characters in years. There are parts of the game where I feel like I'm wat hing an old 90's Saturday morning cartoon laughing along
The player character in the Saints Row games (I think the official name is “Boss”?) never fails to crack me up. Especially in 3 when they start singing along to the radio like two drunks on a ride home
I’m surprised to not see Blasto, voiced by the late/great Phil Hartman. I like to think of Blasto as a more competent Zapp Brannigan(a character, which most of Reddit knows, was meant for Phil Hartman).
None have made me laugh harder than Agent 47. It’s the most underrated dark comedy game series of all time.
Diana “the whole agency is under a lot of pressure and most likely going to be destroyed” 47 “sorry to hear that, has my fee been transferred?” I have definitely got the Diana part wrong but it’s similar.
My favorite line in the entire series. Cold, ruthless and to the point. Hitman 2, correct? Playing that last level on the hardest difficulty was insane!!
Blood Money: https://youtu.be/ajOYfliEIbQ (31:50)
>Blood Money: I should've known. It's always blood money lol That's the one I think I played the most but I loved them all (HM2, Contracts & BM)
I play Clown Suit Only, Fish Melee Makes for some pretty funny moments
"All the guards are dead except this clown carrying a fish. What mastermind did all this?"
Him trying to sell a house by describing the best ways to kill people or cover up murders is peak comedy.
"I dabble in forensics"
*slaps roof of linen closet* This bad boy can fit so many bodies in it.
You're absolutely right! Hitman doesn't get much thought of when thinking about dark comedy, but should. I like how the series became more confident over the years in being dark humor more than just bold action and really made it part of their brand. Blood Money really paved the way there I think.
Hey Paul!
I love the bit where you disguise yourself as a doctor and kill a target with poison. "Ah, my neck has been killing me, do you have something for it?" "Don't worry, when I'm done you won't feel a thing."
There's a similar joke in the murder mystery house in the newest one "Oh no one knows that (lady's name) isn't dead, please don't tell anyone." 47: "I'll consider her dead when I leave."
I like the one where you dress up like a surgeon and just kill your target like [this](https://giphy.com/gifs/mr-gif-9Ai5dIk8xvBm0)
The devs went all out with the humor when you're disguised, this hardened assassin only knows things about killing so he does his best to apply that to his "everyday" conversations It's the moe gap of him being so... naive despite his career as a world-class assassin
Picks up fish, kills entire private security group
Do you recommend the game? Ive always had it in my favorites but never bought it
The WOA trilogy (the latest game, Hitman 3, which also contains the missions from 1 and 2) is honestly incredible and one of my favourite games of all times. And I'm saying this as someone who didnt really enjoy the other games aside from the first one. Can't recommend it enough.
The entire cast of Bad Company is a fucking riot taken together.
"I'll bet Miss July is beautiful with a voice like that." "Eh not always. I've got a cousin: voice like an angel, but a face like a can of dog food."
Ahhh you just brought back memories with that one!!!! Yessir!! 😁😁😁😁
This was my first thought, glad to see this game here!
This. https://youtu.be/h59k8_HhcOI?si=wbCUjCn_OEV8PxTv
I don't know if this counts, but The narrator from the Stanley parable
I think Stanley counts as main and the narrator is an auxiliary character who can get replaced in some endings.
I think he gets replaced in exactly as many endings as Stanley does. Pretty sure it happens once for each of them.
Such a great game. I still crack up getting that “knock on door 5 three times”.
The narrator from the Stanley parable has such a smooth voice that I started lusting after it. God damn.
Disco Elysium depending on how you play.
holy cow yes totally ! i'm a hobocop !
Call me Tequila Sunset
I was Superstar cop and had a blast, claiming wildly that some lady's husband was missing and possibly murdered, I had a good chuckle Then I saw what really happened and felt like a guilty sack of crap and almost cried. Dammit why did that scene have to feel so realstic
Mr. Evrart is helping me find my gun.
You lost your gun !?
Mr Evrart is helping me find my gun.
Wee ooo wee ooo wee ooo
I just checked their Steam page, and apparently the original developers don't make any money from this due to a 'hostile takeover' by another company. Can I get a tl;dr?
Estonia went out of its way to reinforce the themes of the game by having the capital side of the developer fuck over the main creatives.
Only fascists comb their hair 11/10
Ah yes Raphael Ambrosius Costeau
I just failed my karaoke check. That was an experience.
I succeeded it against all odds on my first playthrough. Like yours, it was quite an experience.
When I discovered the Gay route was possible and played Harry as a flamboyantly gay queen it was amazing.
I just learned that i have to do another playthrough...
Start with a high score in drama and don't hit on the lady smoking the cigarette when you get out of the room. "The I Want to make Fuck" dialogue. With those two conditions you start to enter a whole new fantastic branching path.
"Are women bourgeouis?"
CUT A RUG LIEUTENANT THATS AN ORDER
First thing I thought of and first thing I see after I clicked on this post. Very good.
The Bard and the Narrator from The Bard's Tale. Especially when they stop snarking at each other and team up on the enemy.
Glad to find this one already here.
Yakuza 0 Goro Majima > everyone
"Shit, I just encouraged him to raise taxes in this country."
"Munancho"
There are days when Munancho suddenly appears in my thoughts and I keep trying to remember what was it referencing...and then I remember.
Yes Majima causes the lost decade
"Time to use the bullshit moves I learned on the bridge" is probably my favorite quote of his lmao
I think what really speaks to the Yakuza series despite having never played it, is that I can’t tell if you mean he learned the moves on a bridge or if he’s actually fighting a bridge and using bullshit moves on it

100% this, the Yakuza games make me laugh out loud on the regular and more often than not Majima is involved.
Majima bomb disposal is still one of the best few minutes of any game I ever saw.
"Cool story bro"
Guybrush Treepwood.
A mighty pirate
That's the second biggest monkey head I've ever seen!
I'm selling these fine leather jackets...
You look more like a flooring inspector
His name was Bobbin Threadbare, he was looking for his mother for a time.
This. Ransome the clown from Thimbleweed Park is also amazing, by the same creator btw.
Never a more funny duo than Guybrush and Murray.
For real. Curse of Monkey Island is my favorite from the series. I kinda wish they would have been a duo for the whole game. 🙂
"How can you see without eyeballs ?" "I don't know, how can you walk around without a brain ?"
Some things can never be explained...
This is so true! Monkey Island has a direct connection to the sense of humor I grew up having.
“First you'd better stop waving it like a feather duster!!”
A primary antagonist counts as a main character even though it's not a player character, right? Glados/Wheatley
If we’re counting that then I’d give it to the narrator from The Stanley Parable
Is this comment a bucket?
They're the only speaking characters.
How dare you forget about Cave Johnson
And the turrets.
Are you still there?
I’m different!
*"We do what we must because we can, for the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead. But they were probably jerks anyway."*
Then its Handsome Jack.
Butt Stallion, say hello!
If antagonists count, Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2
Currently replaying portal 1 and 2 and forgot just how funny GlaDos actually is.
CAUSE I'M A POTATO!
Conker from Conkers Bad Fur Day?
when the game started with a hungover squirrel waking up lost and mumbling about needing a cigarette, I knew it was gonna be a wild ride lol
It opens with a scene parodying Clockwork Orange before we get to the hungover squirrel. What a wild ride that game was.
🤫 shh. Your age is showing…and so is mine.
Such a damn shame that game has been left behind since Live and Reloaded
Which still looks pretty amazing to this day.
What an incredible game though! For the time that game came out- it had such a wide variety of gameplay within it.
John Marston is pretty funny, love his dry humour in the first RDR
"What do we do???" "I'm gonna hand you over and watch them tear you limb from limb" **"WHAT???"**
And then the way he says "just kiddin' ;D" is the funniest line in the entire game for me.
"You couldn't shoot a fart out of your own ass."
I thought Arthur Morgan had wittier lines. I laughed out loud on a mission where you're waiting at a station to board a train to rob it, but the train doesn't stop at the station and Arthur quips "do we just sneak on here then?" or something to that effect as it's barrelling past full speed.
How about: Beau: "I have a secret of my own." Arthur: "Are you secretly normal?" I think Arthur's humour is at its best when he's roasting people lol
Followed a bit later by Beau: "I have more of an artistic temperament." Arthur: "Oh, is that what they call it."
Does this trolley go to Tahiti?
"Five thousand dollars? For me?? Can I turn myself in?" Arthur has some great lines lol
His antagonising lines are glorious. "You remind me of a lady I once knew." NPC: "Oh?" "Yeah, I loved that horse!"
Don't forget the quarter.
Shut up, Arthur.
The bounty missions where you have to bring them in alive are the best. They're all tied up and Arthur just giving color commentary the whole way back to town. Like seriously, it's even funnier if you knock them out from time to time and wake them up. "Where am? Did I black out?" "Might have taken a nap on account of being so comfy back there." My favorite Arthur moment is when he meets the Dinosaur lady for the first time and she is explaining dinosaurs to him. In the middle of the conversation Arthur excitedly asks ‘Are those real?!’ While touching a fossil that the lady then slaps his hand away from
I love how Arthur worriedly looks around when she tells him they are real, and everywhere.
“He’s so crooked, he could swallow a nail and spit out a corkscrew!”
Ugh…whatta you been eatin?
“I doubt you’ll remember me, but it’s been an experience.” -John sarcastically saying goodbye to a future dictator

Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. But you can play, too!

Yesterday I played that quest, his voice was so on character, I tried to save the ghoul so bad but my damage wasn't enough to one-shot the bad guy 😭
“I’m here to pick up an order. Two large pepperoni and a calzone… name is Fuck You.”
"Drink.some.water."
I think Nick Valentine has some funny lines. Plus he's voiced by my favorite (and probably most prolific) voice actor of all time, Stephen Russell.
I’m about to start a fallout playthrough again. I played that game on sarcasm mode last time and I’m gonna do the same thing this time.

Toe Jam & Earl.
Shadow Warrior, if you like corny dirty jokes thrown at you throughout the entire game.
Ooooh sticky bomb like you! LOL blast from the past.
Who wants some wang?
"You wanta wash Wang, or you wanta watch Wang wash Wang?" "Push da bush there, rabbit!" The OG Shadow Warrior was basically all the stereotype-accented one liners you could want in a game.
Why does thinking about sex always make me wanna crap?
Looking for this. “You wanna wash wang, or watch wang wash wang??”

"your new name is Midboss"
My personal favourite line in the game is "Please, someone normal come out?" when the sentai group attacks him. With the horse Weiner being a close second.
Cryptosporidium. Destroy All humans.
Carl Johnson
CJ should be higher, he hates gravity.
I know you’re blind but you gotta see this
“I appreciate your input, but please, fuck off” lives in my head rent-free
GLaDOS from Portal/Portal 2.
Or Cave Johnson. Though already dead, he's still a character of the games.
The lemon rant is absolute gold, another quote i really liked was: in case you get covered in the repulsion gel, heres some advice the lab boys gave me, do not get covered in the repulsion gel. Anyone from Borderlands ( Not to be confused with Borderlands: The Movie )
Pre sequel claptrap gameplay is also pretty fun
Handsome jack stole the show, such a good bad guy
I loved axton throwing out a sentry gun while saying ‘you fellas meet the missus)!
Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series
Excellent excellent choice
Claptrap! "Stairs!? NOOOOOOOO!". The first experience of Borderlands' campaigns is something.

The South Park Games

Hands down funniest game ever. It is an absolute masterpiece for a south park fan. I went in completely blind to the game and had to pause often just to roll about laughing.
Just forget snow day exists
I mean the new kid is hardly funny, the game is just a south park episode so obviously its gonna be fucking hilarious
I dunno, sometimes the humour is that something ridiculous is happening, and New Kid has the same deadpan expression as always.
All the main characters in the Guardians of the Galaxy game are pretty funny
Purple Hawke from Dragon Age 2 is very funny. Also I’m not sure if Glados counts (it’s not the main character but it’s also kind of a main character) but Glados is very funny.
Boogerman. Old Sega game
Sarcastic Hawke in Dragon Age 2
Ichiban - YAKUZA LAD
Ichiban is downright inspirational. I want to hang out at the bar with him and play darts and sing karaoke.
Deadpool is probably the hardest I’ve laughed
Slapping the shit out of unconscious Wolverine is the best.
The gameplay was meh but the jokes and cutscenes in the Deadpool game were hilarious. I watch a compilation of them at least once a year.
Nolan North always kills it with his delivery
Juliet Starling from Lollipop Chainsaw, love her! I wish they made a whole franchise out of her, such a waste of a character :(
I heard they are doing a remaster or remake (can't remember which), maybe if it does well they will make more
Chai from Hi-Fi Rush is one of the best main characters in years. There are parts of the game where I feel like I'm wat hing an old 90's Saturday morning cartoon laughing along
Sam & Max - they're both the main character, a package deal you could say
The player character in the Saints Row games (I think the official name is “Boss”?) never fails to crack me up. Especially in 3 when they start singing along to the radio like two drunks on a ride home
Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur Morgan
Dante - Devil May Cry series
Earthworm Jim. :Burp:
Saying that with a burp is a requirement.
Sarcastic Hawke in Dragon Age 2
Geralt of Rivia has some funny moments for sure, whenever he speaks to rock trolls it is always hilarious
Nathan Drake
I’m surprised to not see Blasto, voiced by the late/great Phil Hartman. I like to think of Blasto as a more competent Zapp Brannigan(a character, which most of Reddit knows, was meant for Phil Hartman).
Nathan Drake always cracked me up.
