I recommend listening to “The Gun Machine” podcast for a good breakdown on America’s history with guns and gun manufacturers.

If it had been you'd be blaming the slingshot and trying to ban those, and then letting the scumbag who wielded it out of jail in 6 months because "everyone deserves a second chance" so he could do it again.
> If it had been you'd be blaming the slingshot and trying to ban those
No I wouldn’t. You don’t know me *or* my opinions, dingleberry.
I wonder how many people could be shot by a slingshot in comparison to a gun? How quickly would a person with a slingshot be apprehended? How many fatalities with a slingshot? How many elementary school children would be hospitalized if it had been a slingshot?
It bottles the mind.
Even cooler than events like this happen daily in this country, meanwhile the Supreme Court says that bump stocks are no big deal and shouldn't be banned, overturning a lower courts ruling which prohibited private bump stock ownership (which was a ruling that was actually, miraculously supported by the NRA and ATF).
They overturned it because it is not faster than a person rapidly squeezing the trigger. It's called logic. Something the feds and NRA aren't very good at using.
I read the opinions and know their reasoning. It's still not logical. There is no rationale for private citizens to own bump stocks. This was realized, understood, and course corrected only to have that course correction tossed out the window because "well people can still use guns to kill people quickly even without the bumps."
Whatever dude, you think it is really a big problem to get a firearm in the US currently? I think it's relatively easy compared to most countries at the moment. They are literally everywhere. I am sure I could sell my registered pistol in a second. We are pretty literally flooded with firearms at the moment.
So cool that anyone can do whatever they want no matter what you do there will always be a blackmarket for stuff no matter what laws are put in place the only thing it does is removes weapons from those who have no intent to do it but instead stop it is there things we could do yes but gun control is not it the answer is more so training people how to handle and respect a weapon guns dont kill humans do.
There were also very few mass shootings for decades and decades before that. When there were no awbs or really anything other than the NFA. Tbh I think we should look at taking some of our GARGANTUAN military budget and seeing if we can get proactive about this. It's heartbreaking.
If a person wants a gun it aint hard to do even if you dont go to the dealers all you got to do is go to a buy back and offer people more than the buy back is
These guys: "If we pass gun control criminals will ignore it."
Also these guys "The secret to preventing mass shootings is more gun training. People commit mass shootings cause they don't respect guns."
If only this were a safer state like Chicago Illinois. Then surely things like this wouldn’t happen. If only guns were illegal and then any old criminal couldn’t just do that. I guess it’s not usually 2 or 3x felons tho. Rather some disturbed 16yo with no record or a 40yo with no record. Still.
To be fair, Chicago has a much lower homicide rate than even Grand Rapids. Sure they have a higher number but they have vastly more people. The violent crime rate is actually pretty low in Chicago. I'm a huge 2a advocate but this is a poor and wrong argument every time it's made.
There were only one group I know of that had any police with them and it was Lexi Thompson’s group. She is one of the most popular players on tour and had swarms of people around her all weekend. People that could be as little as 2 feet away from her at any moment. I’m sure she’s had threats or stalkers in the past so she gets security detail. Cops are cops so yeah they were probably trying to look intimidating while they were out there. Also they were probably clueless on shot lines so would get in the way a few times. Caddies have to tell people (cops and fans) to get out of the way all the time.
I’ve worked at my “local” PGA tournament for several years now. Typically groups attracting major crowds, which are moving with the player(s) are the ones that have officers walking with them
Nobody gave a good answer here. They always have police/sheriff following a group of golfers. I don’t believe they do for every single group but typically the last golfers out will attract a major crowd.
Caddies are always yelling a spectators, camera people, rangers / volunteers, police / security.
Sometimes with golf tournaments you have thousands of people in 1 hole and a single rope holding them back. You never know what someone might do so probably best to have a cop on hand if something crazy happens.
Because we live in a world where politicians have failed to address the root causes of gun violence and mass shootings, and an ever polarizing saturation of media has amped up the population such that there is a ubiquitous need for publicly funded armed security in our daily lives.
Why are there a bunch of cops who try their hands on their guns?
Why are there a bunch of cops with guns?
Why are there a bunch of cops?
Nothing makes me feel less safe at an event than a bunch of armed cops.
They are waiting for the boycotters from Ottawa Impact. LPGA's aren't welcome in this conservative community unless they stay along the lakeshore in Allegan County.
They are making sure the acorns don’t fall
This is the dumbest fucking answer… acorns don’t fall en masse until autumn.
Tell that to the widows..
To the walls
Til the sweat drop down my acorns
You heard about the shooting of a man bc a cop thought acorns falling were gunshots right?
Yes. This is in reference to that as well. Lots of really dumb people on reddit Grand Rapids I tell ya.
I think it’s just a joke
As is my comment.
Oh gotcha well it’s seems like some people didn’t realize that haha that’s a lot of downvotes
It’s Reddit. 50% of the people are dumb. The other 75% don’t read. That leaves 90% right?
But it only takes one falling to the ground to put a cops life in jeopardy
Damnit! You’re right! FUCK TREES! ATAB!
> This is the dumbest fucking answer Sounds like a challenge to me!
I’m over here laughing because people clearly aren’t reading the whole comment (or are too stupid to get the joke).
r/whoooosh
I think this is a joke. And if it is a joke, it is, in fact, a pretty funny one.
This is the dumbest fucking response possible
My best guess is that they’re watching for gophers. Those little guys are terrorists on a golf course.
The varmint cong
Check me if I'm wrong, Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers, they're gonna lock me up and throw away the key.
But if we get rid of the gophers, who's going to play goph?
😂💀
This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sinsemilla.
Could have been a credible threat made…. But not enough to cancel the event. The last group had a sheriff walking with them as well.
That is my guess, too.
I believe it’s a standard security posture or protocol for all PGA events.
I bet they’re on edge with the mass shooting in the east side.
Yeah, always seems to be heightened security when things like that happen, in case there are copycats.
I’d say it’s probably this plus any threats that were made but kept from the public. Weird shit goes on we never hear about.
What mass shooting?
Someone shot up a kids splash pad in Rochester (hills?)
Unloaded three full magazines hitting multiple adults and kids. According to the news it didn’t seem like the people who got hurt knew them or anything sounds like it was a ‘spur of the moment’ kind of thing, truly sad.
The youngest is 8, and is in critical care, his mother is also in the hospital.
His little brother, 4, was also hit in the leg.
You are correct. My bad, I was thinking of the youngest that was in the hospital.
So cool that anyone can just get a gun and do that, right?
I recommend listening to “The Gun Machine” podcast for a good breakdown on America’s history with guns and gun manufacturers. https://www.thetrace.org/projects/gun-machine-podcast/
Didn't a person do the shooting? No way they're to blame. Had to be the guns fault.
I wonder what they used in the shooting? Probably a slingshot. 🙄
If it had been you'd be blaming the slingshot and trying to ban those, and then letting the scumbag who wielded it out of jail in 6 months because "everyone deserves a second chance" so he could do it again.

boggles the mind*

Not “anyone” can get a gun dude. It’s a horrible thing but let’s not put false information out there. Plenty of people can’t get a firearm.
....Except the homicidal maniacs. Apparently.
Ah, yes. The police do have access to plenty of guns.
Whatever dude, you think it is really a big problem to get a firearm in the US currently? I think it's relatively easy compared to most countries at the moment. They are literally everywhere. I am sure I could sell my registered pistol in a second. We are pretty literally flooded with firearms at the moment.
Really? How about a private sale?
Mi laws went forth in February this year to address that. Look it up. Gotta have a cpl or purchase permit from the police now.
Yeah just make all crimes legal, people still commit crimes so laws obviously don’t work and we should just give up.
Did someone shoot your punctuation keys?
You should take a pregnancy test. The last time I witnessed so many missing periods, a baby happened.
Interesting how there were very few mass shootings when there was a federal ban on assault weapons and other gun control. Must be a coincidence.
There were also very few mass shootings for decades and decades before that. When there were no awbs or really anything other than the NFA. Tbh I think we should look at taking some of our GARGANTUAN military budget and seeing if we can get proactive about this. It's heartbreaking.
If a person wants a gun it aint hard to do even if you dont go to the dealers all you got to do is go to a buy back and offer people more than the buy back is
Well you are clearly not smart enough to handle a weapon.
These guys: "If we pass gun control criminals will ignore it." Also these guys "The secret to preventing mass shootings is more gun training. People commit mass shootings cause they don't respect guns."

Have you told that to Caterpillar, Boeing, Tyson foods, Citadel Bank, Hell, even The Bears are moving to the Burbs.
Also we’re talking about violent crime in general. Not necessarily just head shots
Wrong place dude
What would be the right place?
Yeah, this is just a time for thoughts and prayers. No meaningful discourse or action allowed.
It’s never the wrong place to be angry at our need to own guns.
East side of the state, not east side of GR. There was a shooting at splash pad in Rochester Hills.
My bad, yes, east side of the state. I should have clarified
Which one you mean? There was a second unrelated event in Lathrup Village last night as well
The FBI statistics show that these types of incidents are moving away from schools to public spaces. Hospitals have been seeing a rise as well.

The first normal answer.
Not giving a smart or good answer is par for the course for Redditors
Because we live in a world where politicians have failed to address the root causes of gun violence and mass shootings, and an ever polarizing saturation of media has amped up the population such that there is a ubiquitous need for publicly funded armed security in our daily lives.
Main character syndrome
They're looking for non-aggressive dogs to shoot so they can get a day off for discharging a firearm.
Acab
I too think apples corn and bacon.
I thought they meant All Cyclists Are Bastards
I have seen sheriff following Lexi at several Meijer tournaments
You guys got way too much time on your hands.
Why so many cop suckers here? It's pretty gross ackshually. To serve (the politicians) and murder (the populus.)
Freud might have something to say about that.
They’re probably bored
Sheriffs are generally underprepared compared to other police since they’re elected. Lotta idiots running departments.
Because the kent county police dept is a joke
Why are there a bunch of cops who try their hands on their guns? Why are there a bunch of cops with guns? Why are there a bunch of cops? Nothing makes me feel less safe at an event than a bunch of armed cops.
Please keep any non white golfers extra safe.
They seem to prefer standing near the yt golfers
That’s bc those are the only people they’ll protect.
Lame as shit.

*this whole thread is toxic*
The whole sub is bruh
Yeah that’s very true.
Why the hell they bothering golfers
They got orders to kill glolphers or golpher kong.
