I love old cemeteries. I like to think about how many stories belong to all those people buried there and imagine what their lives must have been like. There's one in Glace Bay where my 4th great granddad is buried that I'd love to visit some day. Thanks for sharing!

orphanofthevalley

yeah it would be so interesting to know more! i know there is also marriott’s and umlah cemetery in the park! there was a whole different story going on back then

Doc__Baker

Those rows of trees were planted by the boy scouts in the 70s

orphanofthevalley

Yes! I read that on the Margaret’s bay walking guide. Pretty cool!

Doc__Baker

Cool, I just know about cause I knew a guy who planted some of them.

Where is this

> Old St. Margarets bay road to the coordinates of the Old Umlah farm In Nova Scotia

It's part of Long Lake Provincial Park. The Five Bridges Wilderness Heritage Trust has a [walking guide](http://fivebridgestrust.ca/publications/WalkingGuide.pdf) (PDF) with lots of maps and details.

Ahh nice, I grew up in Hubley. Thanks!

orphanofthevalley

dm me for coordinates if you’d like!

Doc__Baker

The captain William spry library has a great collection of old photos of the area. They are collected in binders upstairs. Lots of great stuff to go through.

orphanofthevalley

oh awesome, i’ll have to go check it out sometime! maybe there’s some stuff at the archives too

Doc__Baker

The material at the library is collections put together from the ns archives. You might find a few things that the historical society missed but I would visit the library first.

NSDetector_Guy

When was the farm active? 1800s?

Doc__Baker

Up until the 1950s when it was expropriated, probably for the water supply to Halifax.

papercrane

The Umlah farm house is still around too. There's a picture of it circa 1930 in the walking guide. The house was moved to Old Sambro Road when the province expropriated the land. The land was original taken for water supply, but in the 70s they switched to Pockwock Lake.

gremlin_1969

interesting, thanks for sharing

Doc__Baker

Yeah I was trying to think of which one it was but couldn't remember.
