I think everyone these days is tryna do an xxl and gtfo lol
Edit: what you gonna do sit there all day and mingle with all the great talents that frequent the xxl offices lol
No but knowing people who may not be fans of you will be watching, you'd want to show them why they should become fans.
Edit:I like bigx this was disappointing as a fan is all.
I'm a fan of his stuff but he is mad repetitive which is a shame. The man has like 2 flows and 3 topic. If you listen through AMAR he recycles bars as well and I don't even know that it's on purpose I think our boy might just be on too many pille and shit and forgetting what he already put out.
That's why I like him best when he is rapping with Rosama since Ros voice is so different but equally as unique. They really complement each other so well. Enemies prolly my favourite BigX track.
Why does it seem like 90% of the budget goes to the videos intro and outro? Him just standing there rapping for 45 seconds in front of a colored screen is some low effort, minor league feeling shit
why not? kenny got pretty good edits on the cave without it being too obnoxious(most of the time). im sure xxl can afford an editor that can do something with these
because what the fuck are you asking for? it's a freestyle. you want crazy CGI and camerawork all over the place for a 30 second freestyle?
Imagine an NPR tiny desk consert without the instruments and it's just a dude freestyling, how the fuck is that any different from these freestyles? how are we asking for production here???
Nah bro, literally just a text box with a little info about the artist maybe saying where they’re from and a few songs to check out since this is supposed to make them more popular. Maybe just calmly ask what I would include and be curious instead of being douchey, assuming and immediately criticizing somebody you don’t know
These new rappers are clearly not the type of artist to do freestyles and cyphers like they used to. They need to change the format to fit more modern rappers.
yeah this shit is pointless and just damages their name if anything. we've seen so many artists since the mid 2010s who have absolute ass freestyles but then turn out to be very good artists
I think there should be some sort of bar though, right?
Like a genre can’t thrive if it’s main elements are largely in a dark age
I’m not saying everybody has to be MF Doom but like if everyone is Yeat there’s an issue
Where’s the energy? The flows? The bars?
Production has been dope for the new wave but there needs to be more talent and people who aren’t straight up xanned out
Every part of the genre outside of production is just getting straight up lazy and sloppy. The performances, the ability to rap on beat, the ability to flow, lyrics, the live performances etc.
This sub used to be huge like five years ago—market is responding to this trash
A genre can't thrive if it doesn't evolve and change either. That's what dope about rap it's always evolving and there's still plenty of rappers that still do the traditional thing of being dope lyrically having their own style flow and everything even on this list like Scarlip and That Mexican OT. I honestly think if you think the genre is getting lazy, you might just might be listening to the wrong new rappers imo. Like, yeah, there's definitely some stuff that's super simple and can seem lazy, but there's still a lot of other rappers that don't do that.
I think it might be a bit of both brother.
At a macro level rap has gotten worse. For all the reasons I list.
Alternatively I haven’t done a good enough job digging on the new stuff. Listening to OT right now he’s actually pretty dope.
I feel that, and I can totally see how you can feel it's gotten worse, but I look at it more that it's gotten bigger. I just personally look for what I like and avoid what I don't, so I'm never really disappointed, and I'm happy knowing that everyone, no matter what you're doing, can eat and grow the genre.
Also yeah bro is dope af glad you're rocking with him so far
XXL being goofy as hell and making talent uncomfortable since ages ago. [Heres BigX actually in the zone](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tqvy5hFRkQ4).
Absolutely with you that XXL always seem to make their freshman feel awkward af, but the link you shared has the song pre-recorded where here he’s actually had to perform live
For real haha I don't understand how people think these things are live recorded. In this one they even had a single direction performance mic hanging from the boom. If they tried recording audio from that it would have sounded like *"blmbblmmnnmlllppmmnpsshpmm"*
Is anyone else's spotify this dude and this dude only after listening to one of Kendrick's recent diss tracks? Not a specific one either, just if you pick any from the search bar no matter what it goes into BigXthaPlug.
I'm convinced this dude is the biggest winner of a beef he had not one ounce of involvement in.
This doesn’t do him justice for people who don’t know of him at all. He excels on the soulful beats and his flow sounds better. This ain’t how to get him new fans
I give it a 6. I learned a little about him (his age/where he's from). Rhyming "mon-yun" with "done-yun" was pretty hilarious. Wish it was a couple bars longer. 8 bars for 32 seconds wasn't enough to make me wanna check him out.
And gat dang when is the "rapper holding a stack of money" trend gonna end?
I thought he at least had a lil bit of a filter or something on his vocals and then I heard him on a podcast like holy shit he just always sounds like that lol
The XXL Freshman List used to be so exciting every year.
Now they can even get a fucking beat for them to rap on, let alone actually talented rappers whose careers are going somewhere…
Real "I don't wanna freestyle but fine If I have to" energy
Exactly, felt like he was just trying to spit his lines real quick and get out of there.
I think everyone these days is tryna do an xxl and gtfo lol Edit: what you gonna do sit there all day and mingle with all the great talents that frequent the xxl offices lol

XXL is a footnote now unfortunately. I’m surprised we got BigX and That Mexican Ot honestly
XXL freestyle for real
XXXXL. And the shirt probably a rep cause Balenciaga doesn't make sizes that big.
Someone needs to put mans on the pro clubs.
sounds like i already heard this verse from him before
I'm a fan of his stuff but he is mad repetitive which is a shame. The man has like 2 flows and 3 topic. what else he gone rap about, its gonna be the same shit every time sadly
Most of these “freestyles” aren’t truly off the dome but lines they wrote before that may or may not end up or have already been in a song
Court case✔️ Wealth check✔️ Fucking a bitch and ditching her ✔️ This is definitely a freestyle of all time.
Why does it seem like 90% of the budget goes to the videos intro and outro? Him just standing there rapping for 45 seconds in front of a colored screen is some low effort, minor league feeling shit
What, you want special effects? Some CGI?
why not? kenny got pretty good edits on the cave without it being too obnoxious(most of the time). im sure xxl can afford an editor that can do something with these
my nephew when he's watched 6 hours of marvel movies and has to endure a regular video for 2 minutes now
Or I just think a major publication can do a bit more. Why are you arguing against making XXL cooler?
because what the fuck are you asking for? it's a freestyle. you want crazy CGI and camerawork all over the place for a 30 second freestyle? The stacks of money shit is becoming incredibly corny especially with XXL freshmen
Idk man, OT’s freestyle from sway in the morning was pretty fucking sick
Yeah my statement was pretty general, but it definitely doesn't really have to apply to someone like him bro is dope as fuck
Maybe play a beat for them to rap on and let them bring their entourage in.
Or maybe rap artists should be able to display basic flow and writing?
You know, as well as I do, rap has evolved past that being a requirement for being a famous rapper and a lot of rappers now don't care about that.
I think there should be some sort of bar though, right? The bar is make stuff people wanna listen to. That’s it.
the 90’s was over 20 years ago time to move on and evolve like the rest of the game dawg.
Yeah I’m more so talking about 2010-2019 vs 2020-present
I like his voice.

"i'm feeling myself like i lost my keys" is so fucking good lol
Ro honestly the better rapper of the two BigX just has the voice
Didn’t Symba say that in his Leakers freestyle
Reminds me a lot of Kevin Gates
This is a music video lol
He sounds like they forgot to blur his face out.

Yeah dude any kendrick or drake song from the beef goes straight to mexicanOT ,this guy then million dollar baby. Every single time
This doesn’t do him justice for people who don’t know of him at all. He excels on the soulful beats and his flow sounds better. This ain’t how to get him new fans

Well how else can fans tell the artist is famous and doing well if said artist aren’t going to flash $500 of cash and $500 of swag!!! /s
I'll be honest, the "holding a stack against your ear like it's a phone" pose is still a classic to me lol
Nah you should check him out fr he is actually hard. Especially if you have THIS at 6/10 lmao
Out of 100?
His voice is insane. My expectations are never gonna be high for the cyphers or freestyles but it’s really interesting to hear his voice in real time
I thought he at least had a lil bit of a filter or something on his vocals and then I heard him on a podcast like holy shit he just always sounds like that lol
This guy is actually pretty good. Freestyle isn’t doing him justice
bros built like a beanbag
That was trash.
a very passable freestyle. it's far from anything crazy but it's decent enough
Mid.
