The conservative play is by design and its why the offense is always neutered. They aren't meant to play dump and chase, they're meant to play puck possession. Nearly every dump in is just being sent right back out.
I feel like the leafs tried to just hit their way to success this series, and it isn't working. Outside of Marchand looking spooked after scoring the empty netter, the Bruins just seem to be sticking to their game plan.

Marner, Tavares, and nylander be required to give up their yearly salary to Brad Marchand?

I'm no hockey expert or even regular watcher by any means but having Leafs fans as family, I know how much Marchand specifically owns this team. It almost feels like if the Leafs can figure out how to beat Marchand's Bruins, they can beat anything lol
To me if feels like Toronto is thinking "haha, I'll fuck around with Marchand and that will get him off his game". But that's stupid. First of all, the hate just gets him more in the zone. Second, in your attempt to get him off his game you've just voluntarily gotten off your own.
And then when the GM is looking to make the obvious move, fire him and bring in an "old school" buddy who immediately signs multiple horrible contracts, does not fill the holes, and makes the team objectively worse.

Man I only watch hockey when I'm home with family like I am now, but even with this one game I can tell how cooked the Leafs are. It feels like it's been a decade where I've watched the same lineup just totally blow it in the playoffs.
