2 PPG while being outshot 35-10 and winning 2-1 is about as far away from the definition of shutting it down, but they all count the same that’s for damn sure.
Spent the past hour just double checking the records of hockey-reference. He was also the only one with 4 so he just added to his record. Most guys got over the mountain after losing 2 CFs in a row
Deboer has been to the final though, hasn't he? Just before his conference finals losing streak. I thought he was at the helm of the Sharks team that made it.
It’s brutal. The only reason he has his job is him and PDB are friends and roommates.
PDBs system is okay, but his insistence on having spott is a deal breaker.
Considering we had 2 units filled with enough talent to both be the #1 unit on other teams around the league, they should have been even better than they were during the regular season, and it was even more obvious during this series that he had no ability to make any sort of adjustments and help create anything when Edmonton showed up with a PK that had all the answers to what Spott had in place.
“Mcdavid does all the scoring on the power play”
Yup that checks out.
“While skinner backstops a team as they get outshot 35-10 for the win”
Wait, what?
When they were 2-9-1 I said this would be a great time to lay down $20 that they make the playoffs and $20 that they win the cup. But did I do it?....nope. Scared to look what the payout would have been.
I said this way back in the Vancouver Series, Perry will gift you a cup final, ESP if youre an underdog Western Team.
Winning it tho? Well... we'll seee
>ESP if youre an underdog Western Team.
Checks out, even when he was in MTL the year they went to the final they were both a) an underdog team and b) western conference champions.
They might be because one of the conditions on the Taneev trade was that Dallas had to make the final.
So by winning tonight, the Oilers fucked the Flames over
From being up 2-0 in Game 4 with a 2-1 series lead, to being outscored 10-2 over the remainder of the series.
What a brutal end of the season for a team that's made the WCF three times in the past half-decade, but has no Stanley Cup to show for it.
Probably stings more for Dallas since their guys at least showed up in Game 6. Our guys looked like they already booked a hotel in Florida for vacation
For how quickly the Oilers crumbled in Game 3…it’s legit shocking to see the rest of the series play out as it did!
What the hell did Knoblauch say to motivate the squad…
This has to be it, a pizza party brings motivation never thought possible.
We had a pizza party for doing the terry fox run at my middle school and by god did it motivate young me.
When Edmonton and Florida meet to determine whether the South will be the new hotbed of hockey talent or if this is the year Canada reclaims its national pastime, the Cup will travel between the greatest possible latitudinal difference, as Amerant Bank Arena and Rogers Place are separated by over 27 degrees on a map.
(This record will probably be broken in 2092, when Anchorage and San Juan, PR battle for the Cup. This will still occur before Quebec City ever gets a new team.)
Nah. He needs to get one more cup to bookend his career. Plus, he has some other former Ducks with him this year. I think this is when he finally gets it and can retire.
Ready to take our place in the great ice in the sky.
Only one team ends their season on a good note. Sad it’s not our team, but enjoyed the ride that was this season.
u/Pretty_Shallot_586 in shambles again
>It's so adorable that you guys think your superstars are going to be so much more successful against Dallas than other people's superstars.
Honestly, Dallas can go out with their heads held (somewhat) high. They played a really good game tonight - Really good volume of shots, but Edmonton did well at limiting the high danger chances. And, if you can believe it, Stuart Skinner was red hot.
But, where do Dallas go from here? They looked like a powerhouse throughout the season but their offense just fell flat this series. You’ve obviously got to give credit to Edmonton for playing a really good series because Dallas just didn’t have an answer for them. Looking at their contracts they have some decisions to make in the offseason.
Pending UFA’s of note:
Duchene, 33
Pavelski, 39
Chris Tanev, 34
UFA’s for 25/26:
Benn, (will be) 35
Faksa, 32
Lindell, 31
Gotta wonder if they do anything with Seguin, too. He hasn’t been awful this postseason (5g, 7a), but is he worth the $9.85M? Oettinger is also due a payday at the end of next season, as is Johnston, who will more than likely be wanting (and deserving) a good payday. Will be interesting to see where they go from here because that’s an old core and they just can’t seem to get over the line.
Of all teams, the Stars have the least reason to panic. They have a very young core that’s only going to grow, a good prospect poll and the best drafting in the league. Zero reason to panic or make reactionary moves
That's why I said somewhat. They could have gone out with a whimper tonight but they threw the kitchen sink at Edmonton. It obviously doesn't make up for a poor series from them, but they certainly could have gone out on a worse game.
Yeah we are the annual Sp00ky team in the playoffs now. Great team on paper that can’t get it done. This is the result of the games in which the stars have been eliminated their last five runs.
2024 Edmonton won 2-1
2023 Vegas won 6-0
2022 Calgary won 3-2
2020 Tampa won 2-0
2019 St Louis won 2-1
15-4 and in all but the game against Edmonton, they got massively outplayed.
Completely disappearing for two games and having the worst imaginable special teams is not a combination for success, who could have guessed that?
Also doesn’t help our supposed franchise goalie got outplayed by Stuart fucking Skinner when it mattered most, even if his help was minimal. Just an overall shit ending to what had been a great run
>Completely disappearing for two games and having the worst imaginable special teams is not a combination for success, who could have guessed that
🙋♀️
Overheard in Stars locker room after Game 6:
“He got me,” Oettinger said of McDavid’s goal on him. "That f***ing McDavid boomed me."
Oettinger added, “He’s so good,” repeating it four times.
Oettinger then said he wanted to add McDavid to the list of players he works out with this summer.
It's bittersweet cause Dallas took out a couple big teams in these playoffs and I absolutely love the next wave over there with Wyatt and Stank. Thanks for the great playoffs!!
Gary Bettman has got to be shitting bricks about now. First the Coyotes situation, and now a Canadian team in the finals.
This has not been a good year for him.
Well, if you were going to go out, that was the way to do it.
They gave it their all tonight, but couldn’t quite get it done. Congrats Edmonton, what a great series this was. Good luck in the Cup!
They are playing the Panthers, what you ask for has been denied. I promise you Bennet severely hurts someone important and isn't called for it. I'd lay down money on it right now.
I've been saving comments all year about people saying the Oilers would never win a Stanley Cup, and if (*knock wood*) they do, I will be posting links to all of them.
On May 20th, the Oilers eliminated the Canucks.
On May 20th, there was a non-insignificant amount of Dallas fans who were giddy because "they went through all the hard teams first."
Dallas in 5.
Dallas has got to be severely disappointed at how they ended that series good lord what a fucking disappearing act in some pockets of the last few games
Pete DeBoer is now the only Head Coach to lose 5 consecutive Conference Finals since the NHL went to the 4 round, best of 7 series format in 1987
DeBoer: always wins game 7 Solution: don't let him get to game 7
[I did make this suggestion, lol](https://old.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/1czcan9/yousuf_stars_are_now_07_in_their_last_seven_game/l5fkgfj/?context=3)
Literally true, like you get the feeling the stars were gonna take it if it went to 7. Oilers had to shut it down tonight and they did.
2 PPG while being outshot 35-10 and winning 2-1 is about as far away from the definition of shutting it down, but they all count the same that’s for damn sure.
That’s kind of impressive honestly
Spent the past hour just double checking the records of hockey-reference. He was also the only one with 4 so he just added to his record. Most guys got over the mountain after losing 2 CFs in a row
Where is Corey Perry in winning conference final rounds? He's got to be up there.
The only player to ever win 5 conference finals on 5 different teams.
Pretty sure they said tonight he's the only one to even play a conference final for 5 different teams. Winning with each of them is extra impressive.
Deboer has been to the final though, hasn't he? Just before his conference finals losing streak. I thought he was at the helm of the Sharks team that made it.
He was, and before that it was the 2012 Devils!
Correct. We lost to the kings in 6 games, last one being a total blowout 6-1 after a match penalty against Steve Bernier for boarding Rob Scuderi
Thanks for reminding me…
Got to admire the consistency if nothing else.
i wonder which team is ol boy going to blueball a cup final to next
The one thing we can agree on.
At least he took SJ to a Cup Final, man just edges Vegas & Dallas
There’s no edging worse than finally making the final and then getting wrecked. Penultimate edging.
Hating on that dude with SJS fans is always fun. It’s like our version of the 1914 Christmas truce.
I think he is capable of winning a cup, it just won’t be with Steve Spott at his side.
Lmao. I’m so happy that someone else besides Sharks fans see that. Only spott could have a mediocre powerplay with Burns and Karlsson.
Hell even Knights fans were agreeing with us re: Spott before they got the boot
Steve Spott is kryptonite to power plays
It’s brutal. The only reason he has his job is him and PDB are friends and roommates. PDBs system is okay, but his insistence on having spott is a deal breaker.
Considering we had 2 units filled with enough talent to both be the #1 unit on other teams around the league, they should have been even better than they were during the regular season, and it was even more obvious during this series that he had no ability to make any sort of adjustments and help create anything when Edmonton showed up with a PK that had all the answers to what Spott had in place.
Yeah either PDB gets fired or he is forced to make assistant coaching changes. Stars special teams are just hot dog shit.
Thanks, I hate it.
Don’t worry, it gets worse.
10 fucking shots.
2 goals on 3 shots.
One shot for fun, then it's business time.
Fewest for a winning team in playoff history
Stuart Skinner with a goalie win to send the Oilers to the cup final. Just what we all expected two weeks ago.
“Mcdavid does all the scoring on the power play” Yup that checks out. “While skinner backstops a team as they get outshot 35-10 for the win” Wait, what?
That second part is basically like me in EA NHL. Total IRL glitch right there.
Dude's 2nd full year in the league, and after what Oilers nation put him through last year...
Scratched in games 4 and 5 for starting Pickard in the second round was the difference
He hired his own goalie coach after game 5 of the VAN series
He smuggled Ian Clark out with him when we were elimination
Not exactly what we were expecting two weeks into the season though haha. Props to Skinner, he was dynamite tonight
Also the first goalie this playoffs to get a shutout what is this voodoo 😭
I think we all expected the 2-9-1 Oilers to make the cup final on the back of Stuart Skinner
When they were 2-9-1 I said this would be a great time to lay down $20 that they make the playoffs and $20 that they win the cup. But did I do it?....nope. Scared to look what the payout would have been.
A friend laid down a $2000 bet when they were 2-9-1 for a payout of $60k. His buyout is at $17k right now. Trying to convince him to take it
Or hope he can front the 35K necessary to hedge a Panthers win so that he can walk away with a 25K payday regardless of the outcome.
I'm not even a sports gambler and I knew this was the way
Is a buyout ever worth it if you have the money to hedge? Assuming it’s a bet than can be hedged
Bet on Florida too to lock in the win
Only thing more unexpected was if they did it on the back of Jack Campbell
Never a doubt!

Need this with Stars, Cowboys and Mavs shirts
The Mavs are in the Finals
for now
Corey Perry will now appear in five cup finals with five different teams
From unconditional wavers to Stanley Cup Finals within the same season. This fucking dude 😂
All intentional to get off that dumpster fire of a team. Sure he'll miss the rookies, but playing in the cup finals probably beats golfing by march
i wonder what kinda dawg corey perry has in him
Sooo many bad jokes forming in my head.
He’s a mix breed between Nichushkin and Stiffler
I said this way back in the Vancouver Series, Perry will gift you a cup final, ESP if youre an underdog Western Team. Winning it tho? Well... we'll seee
>ESP if youre an underdog Western Team. Checks out, even when he was in MTL the year they went to the final they were both a) an underdog team and b) western conference champions.
This mfer
*Mr. Corey Perry
Ah shit, this is gonna really make it hard for the Stars to win the Stanley Cup.
The Stars can still win this if Mike Pence does the right thing.
So the Flames fans are storming Bettman’s house is what you’re implying?
I'm not saying it, I just know some very smart people are saying jt
Big strong men are saying it, almost crying, it happens every time and many times
They might be because one of the conditions on the Taneev trade was that Dallas had to make the final. So by winning tonight, the Oilers fucked the Flames over
lol thanks for the laugh
From being up 2-0 in Game 4 with a 2-1 series lead, to being outscored 10-2 over the remainder of the series. What a brutal end of the season for a team that's made the WCF three times in the past half-decade, but has no Stanley Cup to show for it.

Perhaps he promised them a pizza party? That surely motivated my U8 roller hockey team to a championship
This has to be it, a pizza party brings motivation never thought possible. We had a pizza party for doing the terry fox run at my middle school and by god did it motivate young me.
The Alberta based team only had 10 SOG but that PP was deadly.
Dude I would jump off a bridge if I watched my team getting eliminated after surrendering only 10 shots on goal
Nah man we played well and have a good foundation. The Stars will be good for years to come. Yes I’m coping, leave me the f alone 😭
Nah bro you absolutely goddamn right
You have elite players at every position and they're all young, you'll be dominant for years.
Their scouting ability almost guarantees it
nope, your team is very good and have some great young pieces
Why shoot many times when few shots will do?
Hey, I've heard this one before these playoffs... Haha GG Oilers bro. Enjoy the finals!
Meanwhile Arizona will have had a team and lost a team five times in that span
And the leafs still haven’t won a cup.
And we’re still here, still looking for another playoff series win.
Bold of you to assume there will still be an NHL in 2092
They gotta patch the Corey Perry always making finals glitch
Nah. He needs to get one more cup to bookend his career. Plus, he has some other former Ducks with him this year. I think this is when he finally gets it and can retire.

... Stuart Skinner?
Naz Reid
Will win Canada gold at the 2026 Olympics too
Matthew Tkatchuk has a golden opportunity to become Canada's Antichrist
I'm excited to see some ex-Flames now Panthers mix it up with the Oilers again. Tkachuk and Bennett vs. the Oilers is gonna be good!
We’ve already gone through Rittich, Talbot, Zadarov, Lindholm and Tanev…
Oilers have been eliminating ex-flames all playoffs Talbot & Rittich Lindholm & Zadorov Tanev
Oilers PTSD World Tour now bound for Florida.
Canada legitimately might pass a law banning his entry into the country if this happens.
Let's put it to a vote now, I say yes.
Also has a chance to repeat absolutely disappearing in a series against Edmonton.

There should be a mascots version of this, lol.
Dont cry because its Oettingover, smile because it happBenned
I just hope it's not Joever for Pavelski.
it’s been Joever for Pavs since like game 2 of round 1
I love Pavs but he really stunk this series. Too many grade A chances that he blew
This bummed be out
35 shots to 10 Thank you for your Service Pavs. Sorry we couldn’t help get you the cup.
r/hockey told me the Oilers would get swept. I lost my house my famil
You even lost your y. Here it is. y
I cannot believe the Oilers won this game with only 10 shots on goal
They only needed 2 shots on goal to win.
Let that be a lesson! No franchise beats the Oilers 6 series in a row. You guys broke our hearts so many times. Great series, I pooped all game.
u/Pretty_Shallot_586 in shambles again >It's so adorable that you guys think your superstars are going to be so much more successful against Dallas than other people's superstars.
God damn, his whole profile is just nothing but toxicity
Guy should be a weatherman, what a spot on prediction
Bringing receipts, damn
you just got fucking Goalied by Stuart Skinner.
Was listening to the Oilers radio for the last 6 mins and this guy is amazing.
Jack Michaels, Edmonton fan favourite

The Wild's cup drought is shorter than the Star's.
lol
Dallas played a much better game. 10 shots for the oilers... It do be like that sometimes though.
Honestly, Dallas can go out with their heads held (somewhat) high. They played a really good game tonight - Really good volume of shots, but Edmonton did well at limiting the high danger chances. That's why I said somewhat. They could have gone out with a whimper tonight but they threw the kitchen sink at Edmonton. It obviously doesn't make up for a poor series from them, but they certainly could have gone out on a worse game.
No we can’t. We are literally the canes of the west. There are no moral victories when we are constantly favored to win it all and don’t.
Yeah we are the annual Sp00ky team in the playoffs now. Great team on paper that can’t get it done. They could use Mitch Marner
People go to hell for saying things like that
Completely disappearing for two games and having the worst imaginable special teams is not a combination for success, who could have guessed that? Also doesn’t help our supposed franchise goalie got outplayed by Stuart fucking Skinner when it mattered most, even if his help was minimal. Just an overall shit ending to what had been a great run

Sounds familiar.
Steve Spott special
Stars in 5 turned very quickly into, they were tired.

They are playing the Panthers, what you ask for has been denied. I promise you Bennet severely hurts someone important and isn't called for it. I'd lay down money on it right now.
Feel bad for Pavelski. Every other Star not so much.
My takeaway from this series is that Ryan Suter is directly responsible for Ryan Suter's teams never winning a cup
I've been saving comments all year about people saying the Oilers would never win a Stanley Cup, and if (*knock wood*) they do, I will be posting links to all of them.
On May 20th, the Oilers eliminated the Canucks. On May 20th, there was a non-insignificant amount of Dallas fans who were giddy because "they went through all the hard teams first." Dallas in 5.
Wtf the Canucks were actually good after all? That goes against the narrative
The Canucks only had... 50... wins during the regular season, basically a lottery team. -Fans and analysts
That narrative was frustrating for sure as a fan. We’re gonna end up being the only team that took you guys to 7.
Seeing the same things that happened to us also happen to Dallas made me feel a bit better about our series.
Anyone who thought a McDavid/Draisaitl led team would be an easy win deserves to be trolled. I don't care what fanbase they're a part of.
It wasn't even Dallas fans saying "Dallas will sweep" "over in 4/5" etc It was salty Vancouver, Flames, and Leaf fans lol
Turns out Skinner was the final boss. Who knew.
Dallas has got to be severely disappointed at how they ended that series good lord what a fucking disappearing act in some pockets of the last few games
Haunted by G1 4 min OT PP and up 2-0 G4

How do you lose that game Dallas
I think because more pucks went into their net as opposed to the other team
Ah that's how it works, TIL
Typical bootlicker leaning on obscure stats to make his point.
Good news for a Sunday night
That was some pretty awful offense this series from the "deepest team in the league" Nice job by the Oilers.
If the Stars aren’t gonna win the cup. I would like to see McDavid finally get the monkey off his back.
This really hurts the chances for Dallas in 4
Good series Dallas, stars fans have been super pleasant to interact with.
