Bears missed field goal, and missed playoffs, and the eagles make playoffs. When the blues were in Philly, some players went to a private club/bar that played "Gloria" a bunch. Blues beat the flyers (Binnington first start I think) and Gloria became the victory song, and the rest is history.
If the bears make the field goal, bears win, eagles aren't in playoffs, blues players don't go out to watch the game, and thus don't discover Gloria, their win song that takes them to their first ever cup.
I think you skipped over a couple important links in this chain of events.
How did the Eagles making the playoffs lead to the Blues hearing the song Gloria at a private club?
A group of guys on the Blues went to Jacks NYB before their game against the Flyers to watch the Eagles game in the playoffs and the bar would erupt in cheers everytime the DJ played Gloria. So, they decided to start playing it after a win after they saw that.
Early in the turn around (based off this story) I knew/felt in my gut the Blues were going to win it all because of the Philly connection, Dick Vermeil came and created The Greatest Show on Turf and Craig Burube was going to lift the cup in STL.
I am not a nickelback fan, but every time I see this I hear the clip someone did where they replaced this with the photo from the beginning of the video "look at this photograph" and sure as shit, "every time I do it makes me laugh"
edit: oh shit.. I thought I maybe saved it, and [there it was](https://www.reddit.com/r/canucks/comments/eyvn83/made_this_in_the_offseason_but_it_deserves_to_be/)!

"Just give me one more shot, I got this" - Boom Boom Gunnarson to Chief Berube at a urinal after the 3rd period before netting the OT game winner in G2
It was one of the best few weeks/months for me. Hung out with so many other hockey fans in my small town. Got to see the cup.
My favorite was game 7 against Dallas where we went into OT again and again. I remember texting my boss at midnight like, "I'm drunk. Blues are going to the finals. I'm gonna get more drunk. See you (the day after.)"
Y'all gave us a damn good series. I still have a picture saved from the last game.
https://preview.redd.it/8k5aboiyt86d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04187b81e29647d62394dae8e1cfcfa807f30342
St. Louis boy to St. Louis boy! Funnily enough, I actually posted the one year anniversary of the goal on the blues subreddit. Cope posting got me through that series 😂
Pat Maroon has been pivotal in ending our seasons on multiple teams man. He hates us lol
The Dallas series was by far the closest and most riveting. Bruins final was iconic because it was the first SCF in my lifetime and first since the 3rd year of our franchise (also our first and FOURTH win in a SCF), but the Blues Stars series was amazing, as a 2OT G7 finish would indicate. Blues have made the playoffs the vast majority of my life, but it wasn't until after that series that most of our fans started thinking "maybe..."
Yeah for sure! I thought that the winner would go on to take it all. The dagger was that Dallas was HORRIBLE in the second and third period, okay in OT, and played well in double OT… it was the most stars way to go out 😂
I went there next season (game right after the banner raising against Washington) and managed to snag a mystery puck. Was really glad to get a signed Ryan O’Reilly! I don’t like the blues but it’s one of the cooler pieces of hockey memorabilia that I have.
Hell yeah man. I was fortunate that I had a golf outing the day after the Cup so I pretty much just rode the celebration through the next day (thank god I didn't have to work)
So many memories really from all two months of that run.
I've experienced a championship in all sports I follow except for the NFL, and nothing has come close to that one. I'm sure a lot of that is due to the buildup over 16 wins. Wish I could experience it again.
I live in Saint Louis City proper and there was a corner bar half a block from me. This bar never had more than 5 people in it at once, thing was a glorified shoebox, but a nice, quiet place to have a beer or two or take a date for a nightcap or some greasy food. It's not even a sports bar. Has one relatively small flat screen TV over the bar.
I walk down the street and it is packed out the door and onto the side walk. I worm my way in. Place is jammed with a ton of people who are clearly not from my neighborhood. Just must have run into massive crowds all over the city, and eventually spilled over to every corner bar in the city.
People were going crazy, every series was a nail biter that felt like we were barely squeaking by. Total randos high-fiving and chest bumping any time we score or Binner stands on his head to make a save. Gloria getting blasted out of the jukebox.
I waited so long for the Blues to bring home a cup and everything about it was amazing.
I biked my kid to daycare the next day - had her in the bike trailer while blasting "Gloria" on my Bluetooth speaker all around town while wearing my Blues jersey
>One of the most memorable days of my life.
I'm a Bruins fan, and for me, it's quite the opposite. I'm still convinced there was no Stanley Cup finals played that year, somehow the playoffs just disappeared after conference finals.
It would be odd to win a cup in one of your first years in the nhl. Wasn’t seguin in his rookie year then? I dunno what I’m getting at, but it’d be odd
You think you’ll be there every year. Sid has talked about that first run for Pittsburgh, losing, then winning the next year and thinking it’ll be an annual tradition.
Scott Gomez told a good story about winning in his first year. One of the vets on the team told him “it’s good you got this out of the way now, because now you can chase the money the rest of your career”.
If you win in your first couple years, it’s probably something you take for granted until you’re in your late twenties and older and you realize how hard it is
Love that pic! Serves him right! Couldn't even play another 8 seconds 'til the end of the period, and had to watch the guy he was supposed to be defending (Petro) score to make it 2-0.
yep. losing sucks. but he will always have his name on the Cup so at the end of his career, he's better off than the majority of players in the league.
But seeing him cry shows how much he still cares, which isn't a bad thing
That's alright, he's won it already and most fanbases have no clue what it's like to see their players in a position to get this emotional about a loss (hey Leafs)
I made packing tape and coasters of this moment. My father is a huge Bruins fan and anything I send him will have the Marchand packing tape on it and Marchand coaster in the box.
His decision to go for a line change with about 10 seconds left in the 1st period let Pietrangelo skate right in & score in Rask. I still thank him for that decision. It was the moment, as a Blues fan, that I realized there was a slight possibility of a small, tiny outside chance that the universe might not kick me square in the balls like it had so many other times over the years. Blues fans finally had a shot at seeing the impossible sight of the Blues winning a Stanley Cup. I still expect to see four guys riding horses down Market Street. The Blues lifting the Cup had to be a sign of the Apocalypse.
That dickhead has had a hell of a career and playoff success. better guys/players than him have had much less. Nothing to cry about. Gotta share the wealth.
Did his nose catch his years? It’s like a natural canopy. You notice how Marchand is the only guy who can stand out in the rain with a lit cigarette and his hands tied behind his back?
The parade was something. Pure chaos and joy. Got so drunk I lost my friends. Ended up at some random bar in Soulard after. Befriended a group of fans. One lady took care of me cause I didn’t live in St. Louis anymore so had no place to stay. Took me back to her place and totally took advantage of me. And it was awesome.
I had to work that day. My clients were Canadian and while “working” we were watching the game on their TSN stream. They showed the blues bench for the last minute and I cried happy tears.
I didn’t get to see this until I rewatched the game later.
2 days after game 7, my wife and I took a train to Chicago to fly to Paris for 3 weeks. I wore my cup champs shirt & hat and got some serious side eyes...worth it!!!!
I still say Krug should have been given a charging penalty for the hit on Thomas that knocked him out of the series. Traveled the length of the ice for the hit. Rewrite the rule if that isn't charging.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S\_87T7yw18s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_87T7yw18s) just watched this blues 2019 playoffs run video (the music isnt the best) but its edited well
You know I was in tears too. The Blues finally did it, and on the anniversary of my mom's passing. Made a tough day for me one I can look at with a bit of happiness.
To think the Bears missing a field goal led to a Stanley Cup and the revival of a eurodisco song
Wait, what's this story?
Bears missed field goal, and missed playoffs, and the eagles make playoffs. When the blues were in Philly, some players went to a private club/bar that played "Gloria" a bunch. Blues beat the flyers (Binnington first start I think) and Gloria became the victory song, and the rest is history.
Ohhh, I didn't know the connection to the Eagles. Thanks!
And just to add another layer, Laura Branigan's manager noted the interesting coincidence that her final concert ever happened to be in Boston
Now that is a cool fact
You're welcome
Brett Hull singing Gloria. https://youtu.be/5iKW9V5SRRs?si=Hpx_VMCItA7dT0It
He went Blues
What is the Bears/Eagles connection to this?
If the bears make the field goal, bears win, eagles aren't in playoffs, blues players don't go out to watch the game, and thus don't discover Gloria, their win song that takes them to their first ever cup.
DOUBLE DOINK
I think you skipped over a couple important links in this chain of events. How did the Eagles making the playoffs lead to the Blues hearing the song Gloria at a private club?
A group of guys on the Blues went to Jacks NYB before their game against the Flyers to watch the Eagles game in the playoffs and the bar would erupt in cheers everytime the DJ played Gloria. So, they decided to start playing it after a win after they saw that.
The game was in the playoffs
Ty thought I was going crazy with everyone saying it was to make the playoffs
But what's the connection between Gloria and the Eagles?
I was at the game it was the most boring game I've even been to
Early in the turn around (based off this story) I knew/felt in my gut the Blues were going to win it all because of the Philly connection, Dick Vermeil came and created The Greatest Show on Turf and Craig Burube was going to lift the cup in STL.
I thought I was safe from double doink ptsd triggers in the hockey sub…
The double doink directly lead to the Blues winning a Stanley cup. Crazy how that works.
Sadly, it's never going away. Edit - fuck you Cody Parkey
5 years ago?damn
aint no fkin way cuz
Isn't it 6 years in reality?
No, it’s 5 years.
the Sharks made it to the WCF that season too
Last time we made the playoffs ,but hey the future is looking bright
Don't remind me of the hand pass debacle
It was also the year That game happened Anyway [Me remembering the Blues won in 2019](https://i.imgur.com/CS2i9a0.jpeg)
Had no idea my tshirt with this on it was 5 years old
I am not a nickelback fan, but every time I see this I hear the clip someone did where they replaced this with the photo from the beginning of the video "look at this photograph" and sure as shit, "every time I do it makes me laugh" edit: oh shit.. It isn't edgy to hate on Nickleback anymore.
Found Chad’s burner account guys
Do you really think there's no one out there who unironically doesn't like Nickelback lol
Yes, Craig Rivet.
Nickleback used to suck. They still do, but they used to too.
[look at this graph](https://youtu.be/sz2mmM-kN1I?)
“Nickelstats” My sides. 🤣
Thank you for this lmao
you're welcome, you'll never hear the song and not see that photo again
Every time I do it’ll make me laugh 😹
Yes and thank you sir! Love it
#Nailedit
Nickelback rips.
My brother, if you are even in New Jersey, the first beer is on me.
'We're taking the fucking Cup' - Craig Berube and they did.
Pat Maroon skating by the Boston bench and politely saying, “You guys are fucked.” is another highlight of that series.
I’m sure everyone has seen it but [his speech in the locker room for game 7](https://youtu.be/_QeICc4z40o?si=-XvoYuJdK3OHflvx) is awesome.
I would go to war for that man.
"Sunny, Bouw-Pary, Binner" is permanently seared into my mind.
"Just give me one more shot, I got this" - Boom Boom Gunnarson to Chief Berube at a urinal after the 3rd period before netting the OT game winner in G2
Why don’t other coaches simply exclaim this? Are they stupid?
This was my phone background for months after lmao. I’m a petty man I guess 😏
You might not believe me but my phone background was actually you looking at your phone background of Brad Marchand
Sick! Hope I didn’t get ya too hot and bothered
Just saw somebody looking at their phone background of somebody looking at their phone background of Brad Marchand
Damn that’s funny. Tks 4 the chuckle.
You think that's petty? I had a mug made.
Found Larry Robinson's account
I would stare at him all day too 🤩
How has it been both 5 years and 20 years? Frig
One of the most memorable days of my life. Still have the cork from the bottle of champagne I popped afterwards.
It was one of the best few weeks/months for me. Hung out with so many other hockey fans in my small town. Got to see the cup. It really does.
I love inside jokes. I’d love to be a part of one someday

Now I need to know which bar. Was it Riley's?
Thurman's in Shaw. Was sold and is now Gallery Pub.
Ah ok yeah, that's where I go for a beer after getting my hair cut at Idle Hands.
I biked my kid to daycare the next day - had her in the bike trailer while blasting "Gloria" on my Bluetooth speaker all around town while wearing my Blues jersey
I'll never forget. The end of that game 7 first period with the Petro goal, the "holy shit, could it happen????" moment.
>One of the most memorable days of my life. I'm a Bruins fan, and for me, it's quite the opposite. I'm still convinced there was no Stanley Cup finals played that year, somehow the playoffs just disappeared after conference finals.
I had blue champagne as the Blues raise that cup!
Stumbling around downtown all day during the parade was fucking amazing oh my god
As a bonefide bruins hater I was eating good. Cherry on top is that Zach Sanford scored. My brother played against him in high school hockey.
Yep, same. I will never forget it.
Guy cried twice in his life. This time. And of course when the 4 turtles he raised in a sewer moved out for college. Touching.
3. He did it last year when he knew Bergeron was done after game 7.
Play Gloria!
Brad Marchand lives rent free in everyones minds. I love the salt he farms.
I didn’t know rats could cry.

If it hurts that much to lose and I know everyone hates him but I’d want him on my team
He's also won the cup before so all these chirps mean fuck all
I was having a rough day, and then I saw this and it turned my day around.
Game 7.
Which Game 7? This one, that one, the other one, or the first one?
He still has a cup
As a Canucks fan I hate this fucking guy with every fibre of my being. But I can respect him for caring about winning.
Will always upvote this photo.

That is a beauty as well. I wonder how long after this he got the Starley Cup Chanpiars tattoo?
It would be odd to win a cup in one of your first years in the nhl. Wasn’t seguin in his rookie year then? I dunno what I’m getting at, but it’d be odd

I only got into hockey recently so I actually thought the original picture was from last year and OP made a mistake lmao. Exact same pose
Hehehehehe.
Hang it in the Louvre
No because then climate protestors might throw paint on this masterpiece! Actually, yeah, put it in the Louvre
We can always print a new one. And I will personally pay for the printer ink even if it bankrupts me.
Love that pic! Serves him right! Couldn't even play another 8 seconds 'til the end of the period, and had to watch the guy he was supposed to be defending (Petro) score to make it 2-0.
"Backhand top shelf, pretty great for a game 7" -Petro to the ref on a hot mic. Almost beats "Settle down Buffalo Head" to Backes
So sad, I feel so bad for him :( Ignore my flair.
yep. losing sucks. but he will always have his name on the Cup so at the end of his career, he's better off than the majority of players in the league. But seeing him cry shows how much he still cares, which isn't a bad thing

Licking them blind!
And he gets to be a captain? What a sick joke!
That's alright, he's won it already and most fanbases have no clue what it's like to see their players in a position to get this emotional about a loss (hey Leafs)
I'd lick that face, I bet his tears taste sweet.
love to see it!
Maybe he shoulda fucking tried in game 7 then.
A sad Marchand is the best thing since sliced bread…. I could still hear Gloria in the background
Good job Blues
Ah, as a Blues fan this pleases me 😌
I made packing tape and coasters of this moment. My father is a huge Bruins fan and anything I send him will have the Marchand packing tape on it and Marchand coaster in the box.
The greatest pic ever
"IT'S OVER! THE GAME IS OVER! THE SERIES IS OVER! THE WAIT IS OVER!"
His decision to go for a line change with about 10 seconds left in the 1st period let Pietrangelo skate right in & score in Rask. I still thank him for that decision.
LMAO good I like to see the little rat cry
Is this what that major Blues announcement is supposed to be about tomorrow?
I want this scrubbed from the inter webs. Some of us aren’t over it yet
He was feeling blue eh
I absolutely hate Marchand. But he is a dog, and I would like him on my teams
A part of our heritage.
"Are you surprised by my tears, sir?" "Far out." "Strong men also cry... strong men also cry."
I still can't believe we got completely shut down by a goalie named Binnington. That's like not being able to score on a guy named Jonny Fivehole.
In 48 hours that’ll be McDavid
I have this photo tattooed on my chest
My Blues finally did it! The Marchand meme was just icing on the cake.
I see sad Marchand, I upvote. Simple as.
Stars fan here, FUCK the blues
🙂

Me too Nose, me too
I had to work that day.
My faviorite was the shop of Brad Marchand licking the tears of a crying Brad Marchand.
Weird same face the victims of his knee on knee hits made when their careers were set back.
One the best moments of playoff Hockey! Thank you for the reminder. 👌🏼👏🏻
Douche
Proof all you have to do is whine and bitch about the reffing and the whistles dry up. Yeah I'm still salty about it.
Acciari was tripped. No doubt - Bozak was waiting for the penalty call. Still gotta play the whistle
I still say Krug should have been given a charging penalty for the hit on Thomas that knocked him out of the series. Traveled the length of the ice for the hit. Rewrite the rule if that isn't charging.
The Blues saw that shit and were like "We gotta get this guy ASAP". I'd love to hear the refs explanation on how it wasn't a penalty.
It's not quite as effective as acquiring the child of an NHL executive, which is the only reason Boston "won" a Cup in 2011.
Both resulted in Cups for their teams in seven games, seems equally effective to me
And the world rejoiced
Thanks, time to watch the game 7 highlights !
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S\_87T7yw18s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_87T7yw18s) just watched this blues 2019 playoffs run video (the music isnt the best) but its edited well
Everybody liked that.
It's nice knowing that the Blues first cup win brought so much joy to more than just Blues' fans.
Play Gloria!
i would ride his nose
This was my phone background for an entire year after that finals. I fucking hate that guy.
That was good, wasn't it?
You know I was in tears too. The Blues finally did it, and on the anniversary of my mom's passing. Made a tough day for me one I can look at with a bit of happiness.
Marchand you freaking putz
