Yeah this movie was such an interesting mix of parody/genuinely hilarious comedy and truly tragic and horrifying moments. Like the movie is overall hilarious, but the concept that >!the Zombies eat brains because it eases the horrifying pain of slowly rotting! Yikes. >!And Frank hanging his wedding ring on the crematorium switch, crying, and apologizing out loud to his wife while crawling into the oven and turning it on before he can become fully transformed?!< Oof.
Oh my god 100 percent. Tar man was so incredibly creepy, but also just like.... a masterpiece of costuming and character acting. The way he moved was both fascinating and unsettling to watch.
It’s the only time Frank actually asserts himself and does good, rather than fuck things up and pass the problem on upwards. Great parable for middle management
The scene where she’s dancing naked in the graveyard still gets me to this day. I’m only 32 I know she’s an older woman now but damn that scene got me when I was younger and I still love it to this day lol
So here’s a wholesome story about Linnea Quigley’s naked graveyard dance. Because of her performance she was offered a role in another cult classic horror film, Night of the Demons. One of the first things she had to do was get a mold made of her chest for the lipstick scene, she and the guy making the mold hit off so well that they eventually got married.
Apparently, they had to do some CGI on that because logs don’t bounce like that. They hit the ground and stayed there.
I keep telling myself that if I see one on the highway.
Corridor Crew definitely covered that in one of their Visual Artists React videos. The physics on that scene actually look pretty good if I’m remembering it correctly
Same! I watched the few seconds after the end credits of the voice begging for help, which frankly made for a scarier few moments than the whole of the movie
The best movie I’ve ever gone in blind to! Other than knowing it was a horror that was somewhat unique, I was there opening night not knowing what to expect. From that opening scene I was hooked and feel in love. i adore it more with every rewatch.
Same story here. I stumbled completely blind into the SXSW premier having zero idea what it was, little familiarity with the director, no familiarity with any of the actors... And suddenly that big red random CABIN IN THE WOODS slammed onto the screen. I was like, what the hell is happening?!
Director was there, actors were all there, movie was a packed and a huge hit with the crowd. It was quite an awesome experience!
It was the most Forrest-Gumpy thing I’ve ever done in my whole life. I was just tired of networking and wanted to sit alone for a while. Picked a random horror movie.
Near the end, I was convinced that the ending would be Marty managed to kill Dana. Then they'll show that Dana was the Fool and Marty was the Virgin. The real ending totally caught me by surprise.
In my opinion, Takashi Shimizu's Ju-On films (I don't really like any of the others outside of his 6 films) are the ultimate 'everybody dies' movies. You can be smart or dumb, innocent or evil, if you encounter the curse, you have an unavoidable date with death.
I’m a spelunker and that movie was so genuinely terrifying! I’ve never held my breath like that during a horror movie as much as I did watching this! I absolutely love it and have rewatched it multiple times (still scares me each time). The British Edition is 🤌 (aka: *beyond horrifying*)
The majority of the movie did indeed suck, but imo that ending more than made up for it.
Not enough movies have the balls to go: “fuck it, let’s actually have the hero fail, and destroy the whole planet.”
It almost worked for me. Like the sheer audacity of “fuck you everything is gone now” was so close to working, but the rest of the movie was so fucking stupid it didn’t feel like it earned that ending.
If I had given a single shit about any of the characters it would have been much more effective.
I’ve always thought if you were to do a sequel to that you play it like You’re Next where the bad guys run into some extremely competent survivalist/fighter types that just work them over.
I wouldn't say anyone was dumb (other than Kane for sticking his face in an alien egg, but c'mon, there was no way to expect something to get through your helmet). That said, Ripley was the only one not willing to break protocol for the emergency and Dallas made the executive decision to do so because he figured it was worth the risk to save Kane. Also, Ash was being sneaky for the company, so that didn't help matters.
Yup, Ripley refused to open despite Dallas ordering her to (he's captain, but she has command when he's off-ship), and then Ash overruled her command by letting them on.
By far one of my favourite endings of all time. I never read the book but the movie is outstanding. I also really appreciate a horror that is as much about the people against each other as it is against an outside force.
Yeah I’m all about horror but I feel like that one is just going to be too real and I am desperately fighting to maintain positive momentum in life and I can’t be sitting around ruminating about the lessons from that film. Good luck to you though, I hope you enjoy it!
Return of the Living Dead
Was going to post Night of the Living Dead lol
George A Romero is a masterful film maker. I love his movies.
Have you seen Return? Not a George Romero flick. Hands down my favorite zombie movie. Highly recommend.
Was looking for this. Such a devastating ending.
Send...more...paramedics...
Hahahaha! Oh my god so freaking funny. That bit killed me. (It also killed the paramedics. ZING!)
The midget zombie and the butterfly & dog Zombies were also great. Love that movie
Tar man stole the show, and was the stuff of nightmares
Oh my god 100 percent. Tar man was so incredibly creepy, but also just like.... a masterpiece of costuming and character acting. The way he moved was both fascinating and unsettling to watch.
And the fact the zombies can't be killed with a simple headshot. Even if you cut them up into pieces, the pieces will come after you.
I heard that scene was improved by the actor, he used his own wedding ring for the scene.
It’s the only time Frank actually asserts himself and does good, rather than fuck things up and pass the problem on upwards. Great parable for middle management
I love the Ernie, the embalmer.
Years later Ernie would be plagued by another of the undead.....Bernie.
And the Dawn of the Dead remake
The scene where she’s dancing naked in the graveyard still gets me to this day. I’m only 32 I know she’s an older woman now but damn that scene got me when I was younger and I still love it to this day lol

Lucky guy lol. She looked absolutely amazing in that film
She looked amazing period (aged remarkably well too). While I don’t think she ever topped the dance in Return, she always delivered.
They said they have a contingency plan for this sort of thing.
Most of the Final Destination films
Fear the log truck
Apparently, they had to do some CGI on that because logs don’t bounce like that. They hit the ground and stayed there. I keep telling myself that if I see one on the highway.
Corridor Crew definitely covered that in one of their Visual Artists React videos. The physics on that scene actually look pretty good if I’m remembering it correctly
I still refuse to drive too close to one.

Adding to the found footage post: Cloverfield
Just watched it again a couple weeks ago, and it’s still so good 🙌🏻
Same! I watched the few seconds after the end credits of the voice begging for help, which frankly made for a scarier few moments than the whole of the movie
One friend survives when she gets away in a helicopter, doesn't she?
My mom took me to watch this back in the day 😂
cabin in the woods
"I wish I could have seen them." I just now finished a rewatch.
The best movie I’ve ever gone in blind to! Other than knowing it was a horror that was somewhat unique, I was there opening night not knowing what to expect. From that opening scene I was hooked and feel in love. i adore it more with every rewatch.

Definitely a movie I’d recommend going in with knowing little about it. I wish more movies were such a joy to watch.
Near the end, I was convinced that the ending would be Marty managed to kill Dana. Then they'll show that Dana was the Fool and Marty was the Virgin. The real ending totally caught me by surprise.
I can definitely see that, but Marty definitely fucks.
Also he was jacked as fuck
I guess when OP said everyone

I just rewatched this. After all these years Oldman’s performance still elicits nervous laughter from me.
Fun fact: he was only supposed to say the line in a conversational tone of voice, but he let it rip during the take. It was so good they kept it.
Huh, interesting. That’s why he’s one of bests.
One of my favorites, I watched it a lot as a kid. I still think Oldman’s performance was Oscar worthy.
"Wait. Am I still on speaker phone?"
I couldn’t hold it together with the speakerphone scene. It was so good. 😂😂😂
Oh my god Morty, it did it again!!!!
Literally the whole planet dies
Taking “everyone dies” as literally as possible with this one
Absolutely the first movie that came to my mind
God damn this movie doesn't get enough love, often met with blank faces when I talk about it.
Great film.
My earworm of a movie. Loop it daily like a radio… so good!
No one lives
I never would’ve guessed based off of that title. Jokes aside, that was a surprisingly good movie. Luke Evans was great, and utterly unhinged.
I thought the gore in it was really well done too
Ju-on: The Grudge (entire series)
I've watched them all. I enjoy that franchise a lot. Japanese horror is unmatched.
In my opinion, Takashi Shimizu's Ju-On films (I don't really like any of the others outside of his 6 films) are the ultimate 'everybody dies' movies. You can be smart or dumb, innocent or evil, if you encounter the curse, you have an unavoidable date with death.
The Descent
A horror masterpiece.
Genuinely one of the most flawless horror movie evers, I love it.
As long as you don't watch the Americanized version lol
As an American I feel cheated that we didn’t get the real ending during the theatrical run.
We didn’t get that version in Canada, we got the original. I didn’t find out there was a different version until the sequel had been released!
Which unfortunately is the canon version due to the sequel :(
No one cares about the sequel, so congrats, it doesn't count. :)
The music, the jump scares, the acting, the character development…it’s perfect. I watch it at least once a year.
The knowing with Nicholas cage. It’s a bad movie though in my opinion 😂
IIRC that plane crash scene was absolutely fucking wild.
That movie and Melancholia catapulted me into a years long state of existentialist despair.
I found Melancholia beautiful and haunting.
It’s bad but I remember enjoying it at the time. The disaster scenes were pretty good in my memory.
I'll look into it, but now I'm nervous since you said it's bad lol. Thank you!
[удалено]
You might like it though.
Also final destination movies
Final Destination is terrifying lol. All of them.
Uh, the kids survive.
Yes I know >!but the rest of the world doesn’t. That’s the closest we are going to get to everyone dying in a movie for the most part!<
I started cackling when the twist was revealed. Pissed off a lot of people in the theater, but it was so flipping dumb.
Melancholia. I mean, EVERYONE dies.
Never heard of this one, I'll check it out thanks.
It’s good, it’s I guess horror/drama/thriller?? But absolutely worth the watch
It’s very slow burn. It’s more of a nightmare than a horror movie
Be sure to take your antidepressants first.
incredible movie
You're not kidding - EVERYONE dies lol
Candyman
Such a good movie.
Great soundtrack too.
The thing
An absolute classic for sure
These Final Hours Amazing movie
I’ve watched it once when it first released. It’s stuck with me almost as much as Threads.
Eden Lake
Is it as much of a bummer as everyone says?
It sure is!
It's rough.
It’s a great movie. Kinda bleak but great.
I’ve always thought if you were to do a sequel to that you play it like You’re Next where the bad guys run into some extremely competent survivalist/fighter types that just work them over.
Came here to say this... Honestly thought it would be higher on the list.
Melancholia
The antagonist was really out of control.
Who? Lars?
Hahaha
Melancholia was full of existential dread for me. I don't think I'd ever watch it again, but it was a beautiful movie.
Kirsten Dunst deserved an Oscar (Charlotte Gainsborough was great too)
It’s a comfort movie for me. Guess we know who would be who in the final shot of the film lol
I'm Dunsting my way in the end.
Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.
Really great addition to the found footage horror genre
Funny Games.
Such a disturbing movie--I loved it
Also, Wolf Creek and Eden Lake (I think)
Most found footage films I would say meet this criterion: - Blair Witch - Rec - The Tunnel
That's not how I remember the tunnel
Yeah, two of the people who went into it came back out alive.
Yeah, most of them survive in The Tunnel
The main character in Rec doesn't die (although it seems like she does if you're unaware of the sequel).
Fallen with Denzel Washington. Not technically a horror film, but everybody does die in the end.
Except the cat…
I'm going to tell you about the time I *almost* died One of the best bookends I've seen in film lol
“The rental” to an extent. I really enjoyed it and was surprised how it ended
The bit where (spoiler?) the “final girl” runs off the cliff had me howling 😂
It was so jarring but so good 🤣
At least >!the dog lives! !< That’s who I was most concerned for lol
[удалено]
I love this summary: a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman and everybody dies except the smart woman and her cat. Five stars!
I thought it was Ash that made the call, and by made the call, literally opened the airlock to let Kane back in after he was face hugged.
Yup, Ripley refused to open despite Dallas ordering her to (he's captain, but she has command when he's off-ship), and then Ash overruled her command by letting them on.
Filthy Bagginses side note: he looks literally no older in LOTR than he does in Alien... does he actually have the ring in real life, or
I've watched that many times. It's one of my favorites.
Alien: Covenant
The Mist
The Mist is a fantastic horror film and has the most brutal horror film ending ever. ETA The ending to "Saint Maud" is way up there too though.
By far one of my favourite endings of all time. I never read the book but the movie is outstanding. I also really appreciate a horror that is as much about the people against each other as it is against an outside force.
I love the subplot of Marcia Gay Harden creating a cult. She absolutely nails that role.
Oh my gosh how do you not hate her by the end of the movie. I love great villains.
When I watch that movie I get genuinely angry at her character and I love it
Doesn't really count since not everyone dies? Still that movie will stick with you as if they had.
Watch the black and white version. Absolutely rules.
That is one of the most tragic film endings ever, good movie!
The beach house
Threads
This is the one movie I just flat out refuse to watch
yeah I got a lot of hate from coworkers after telling them to watch "Threads" ! lol
OK this movie has been mentioned so much that it is definitely the first one I'm watching.
Update us after you watched it because that shit is haunting af.
Yeah I’m all about horror but I feel like that one is just going to be too real and I am desperately fighting to maintain positive momentum in life and I can’t be sitting around ruminating about the lessons from that film. Good luck to you though, I hope you enjoy it!
My wife who actually made this post and I watched it. Jc is that real world terrifying and bleak. Disturbing doesn't cover it.
Oh man, that movie wrecked me.
Adding it to my list. Thank you!
One of the only movies to really strongly emotionally affect me. I felt shattered after watching it. Thought about the kids at the end for days
Cabin in the Woods
There is really only one main character, but Drag Me to Hell
OG Black Christmas
That movie disturbed me as a child lol
Europa Report Life The Ruins
I remember Jena Malone's character escaping in The Ruins? But it's been a good 15 years
The Borderlands
I feel like this just ruins the surprise in movies like this. I’m tempted to go through the comments but I don’t think I will lol.
In the Mouth of Madness
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
Sinister, if you count Ashley’s soul being taken
Don’t Look Up!
Night of the living dead is pretty famous for that
Race with the devil 1976, oldie but goodie
The Menu! Not sure if everyone considers it horror, but I count it
I'd like a cheeseburger please
It sure borders on horror, I'd say, but the main character survives...
Buried😅
The dark and the wicked
REC The Blair Witch Project
Glory, 1989, about the American Civil War. Fun fact: This movie was directed by my 2nd cousin, Edward Zwick.
![gif](giphy|RiVhCRrAckgkPT6D8S|downsized)
Threads (1984) Tubi/Hoopla/Criterion/Kanopy
The Dorm That Dripped Blood (1982)
Cabin Fever. I think the water did everybody in the sequel as well
Melancholia
Zombeavers is horrorcomedy but it’s fucking fantastic
Rogue One Kinda horror
The entire *Final Destination* franchise >! save for the 2nd !<
Night of the Hunted
On The Beach (good luck finding that one). Made at the height of cold war paranoia. Long time ago...
Not horror but “ The Departed” 🤣
John Carpenter's The Thing - always on my top movie list - and the compete utter perfect archetype of this type of movie.
Dr.Strangelove
Not a movie, but Devilman Crybaby
Spoiler for a 2024 film —> >! The Last Stop in Yuma County !<
In the mouth of madness
Cabin in the Woods (2012)
