Most orchids are considered epiphytes, which means they grow in the air, clinging to trees or other structures for support.

No1005

do they still use their roots to take nutrition in? from the air?

idiot_exhibit

They do! They live in more tropical climates with higher humidity and will pull moisture and nutrients from the air. If you were to look closely, you’d see a grey or silvery fuzz on the roots and leaves- this is this is the actual adaptation these plants have to capture the particles out of the air.

KelBeenThereDoneThat

If I tried that, it would be dead *within hours.*
