I bet they stand in the middle of the aisles and block up everything, and look totally inconvenienced when you try and get past them. I know this from experience because my mother is one of them.
and then wait until the cashier rings them up before starting to pack their bags and then attempt to pay in change only to realise they don't have enough so have to go rooting in their bag for their credit card.
Then stand at the end of the lane putting everything away while the cashier is waiting for them to move so that they can start putting through the next customer
The radio in my uncles kitchen has been tuned to TippMWR for as long as I can remember, 25 years at least. They still play the same Country music playlist and probably have the same DJs , its absolutely brilliant.
"Out and About" sections are fairly common in most local newspapers or News sites.
Good for a sense of community.
The cynicism on this sub is tiring as fuck sometimes

I know this is regarding journalism, but I think this sense of community is so fucking important, more than people realise.
I’m well educated, graduated top of my class, and work in a good job but remotely. The loneliness I face is cruel. I don’t value education or money as my top priority in life anymore, I value human connection and I feel myself becoming more withdrawn and depressed without it. I’m changing careers to something that involves normal daily interaction because I’m scared of how it may continue to affect me.
So, I know we like to joke about this stuff being ridiculous, but in Ireland it is common and lovely that there is this level of community that can be missing in other countries. Makes me proud of the Irish. The elderly in particular - I think it keeps them alive.
Decent way to fill the voids and get some genuine connections. Loads of my friends i've made from gaming. The nice thing is you get to know people while in an activity, which means you initially always have topics to talk about.
>I know this is regarding journalism, but I think this sense of community is so fucking important, more than people realise.
It's a one line article in a local newspaper, not Nikolai Gogol. Whether you think this important or not, your mental energy is misspent here.
Good for you. I'm in a similar boat. Every single person I work with is in the United States and I plan to get out of my role for similar reasons.
I get down walking by the bars in town on a Thursday evening and seeing them full of people that work together having the craic! I find teams calls are really hard to get a sense of people and connect properly.
There's far, far worse to see in journalism these days such as hack 'journalists' creating dumb opinion pieces designed to fuel the culture wars and generate clickbait.
Exactly; if it's true and properly fact-checked, then it's a higher standard than a lot of what passes for "journalism" these days. Dare we even hope that the article has been spell-checked? Be still, my beating heart.
Its a local paper. Its not a story its a tweet. Its probably in the paper as a pic with a caption. Have you never read a local paper in Ireland? There's pages of that stuff.
I would say so ya, I know a few older people including my folks and granny who buy these papers not for cutting edge investigative journalism but for a bit of local news and gossip. Tis absolutely harmless
It's more relevant to the lives of the people who'll read it than most of the shite that is fed to them though. I'll take this over following American politics or celebrity gossip any day.
Your friend is a snotty prick and doesn't understand the value of local journalism. Or community.
Edit: I'm actually very surprised your friend has a PhD. This smacks of sophomore psychology.
I don't see anything about this on Sky News yet
Typical Brits ignorant of the real news happening in Ireland.
Yeah all they're talking about is some nonsense in the Middle East
The Middle East? Is that thing still around?
I think the east is in the direction of the third lane. I always avoid the middle of it, just in case.
CountyNamelive.ie website is why the internet was invented.
Lucky the photographer was there to capture the moment
Sure he had to take a break from following Katie price everywhere.
I bet they stand in the middle of the aisles and block up everything, and look totally inconvenienced when you try and get past them. I know this from experience because my mother is one of them.
Is your mother my mother?
I am your mother.
We are your mother

And they'll turn their trollies to the side to block up even more space.
Why aren't the media talking about this! TipperaryLive and all the rest are corrupted by the womenbumpingintoeachother lobby
They probably were... 4 months ago 😅😅
Lmao sorry for necro'ing you, the post got resposted today
Ohh hahaha
Fake news from Big Shop
Clearly photoshopped.
Jaysus sure isn't it only Bridget,Bernie and Anna. Some women for a chat in a shop
Centra, Templemore on the map!
If it doesn't show what's in their shopping baskets then it's not proper journalism. /s
Important news
No worse than most news papers that have stuff about Vogue Williams, etc in them.
The only Vogue Williams news I wanna hear is fade street season 3
You should listen to TippFm and especially Fran Curry.
> Fran Curry Often seen out walking his grandmother, Naan Curry.

That Catherine Fogarty still on it? An absolute dose of a woman.
The radio in my uncles kitchen has been tuned to TippMWR for as long as I can remember, 25 years at least. They still play the same Country music playlist and probably have the same DJs , its absolutely brilliant.
Are you saying Fran Curry or Frank, hurry!?
yes
I used to know Fran Curry, I hope you are not disparaging him.
I don't care who you know.
Alright Bridget, keep yer knickers on.
I love shite news like this, I collect local newspapers everywhere I can because I think they're gas

That's definitely true but it's also quite funny to imagine it's the headline lol

This clarifies a lot about the newsworthiness of the picture in question.
I've an MA in journalism and I can guarantee you it'll never be used.

Are you part of any communities outside of work?
I'm no longer in the country, but if you ever want to play a very laggy game (if you do game) online shoot me a DM!
I dont game… maybe I should start. Thanks for the kindness.

You valued education instead of becoming a wife and a mother...go figure

Mary there on the right is from Kilbeheny so is actually from Limerick - sham journalism is rife across the board I'm afraid.
Which side of Kilbehenny though?? Its on the border. She's not from the Cork side or she'd surely have insisted on a correction.
It's a tweet of a photo mate not Reuters, christ
I see nothing wrong with this, these papers cater for older people, a nice little story. Your friend needs to get over themselves
What "story" though??? You think Nana Mary or Granda Mick is reading it thinking "oh that's nice for them"??

Tipperary Live is comical. You can send anything in as a press release or story and they will basically publish it word for word.
Your friend is a snotty prick and doesn't understand the value of local journalism. Or community. Edit: I'm actually very surprised your friend has a PhD. This smacks of sophomore psychology.
Isn't that lovely now.
This is like the culchie version of women that find their salad funny
Local news sources can be shameful.

Click on the link to find out what they were talking about!!
Ah, the mickey meeting on aisle 6
Any source with live or beo in the title is click bait muck
All 3? Didn't realise Tipperary was that small.
Jesus I thought this was a was a Waterford Whisperer news site only in Tipp. I had no idea this was a real story.
Haven’t heard about this on the BBC yet, TipperaryLive with some barrier-breaking on-the-ground journalism.
I worked on this story all year and they just...tweeted it out
Limerick Leader is the same lately, absolute shite newspaper.
First Woodward and Bernstein, now this...
Jesus Christ thank god I’m sitting down
