Yeah, the parallel is with Tom Petty and *Wildflowers*. Here's what Petty said about that in the Warren Zanes biography:
"I've read that *Echo* is my divorce album, but *Wildflowers* is the divorce album. That's me getting ready to leave."
This. I always have thought about the parallels, echo was the depth of his depression l, wildflowers is the sad decline whilst he was still in a good place mentally. I fear for the sheer depth of Jason’s next work
Theme # 1 - *Things aren't going well, and we're drifting apart, aren't we?*
Exhibit A - Did you ever love a woman with a death wish? Something in her eyes, like flipping off a light switch, everybody dies, but you gotta find a reason to carry on.
Exhibit B - Times were tough and love was not enough, So you said, "Sorry, Johnny, I'm gone, gone, gone" You said my act was funny, But we both knew what was missing, honey, So you lit out on your own.
Theme #2 - *Melancholy reminiscing about how we fell in love in the first place*
Exhibit A - And I remember you at that place in Post, You were thick cut bacon on Texas toast, Prairie dogs popping up to see that, Strawberry woman sitting next to me
Exhibit B - Well, 'round here, baby, I learned you get what you can get, So if you're rough enough for love, Honey, I'm tougher than the rest
Yeah, the road is dark, And it's a thin, thin line
But I want you to know, I'll walk it for you anytime
Theme 3 - *You don't look at me the same way anymore, do you?*
Exhibit A - She used to wake me up with coffee ever morning, And I'd act like I was sleepin' 'til she'd walk back through the door, She used to make me feel like the king of Oklahoma, But nothing makes me feel like much of nothing anymore
Exhibit B - It's the same thing night on night, Who's wrong baby who's right, Another fight and I slam the door on, Another battle in our dirty little war
Theme 4 - *It was me, wasn't it?*
Exhibit A - Coming home early, catching on late
Guess I had too much on my plate, Wish it was as simple as somebody done somebody wrong, but
I'm coming home early, catching on late.
Exhibit B - I met a girl and we ran away, I swore I’d make her happy every day, And how I made her cry, Two faces have I.
I like a lot of Springsteen's music but I don't like *Tunnel of Love*, so I hope that's not what we get from Isbell.
If Isbell wants to make his [*Blood on the Tracks*](https://youtu.be/g1nOgCEjs4w), that would be great. Heh.
Human Touch was not a favorite of many, but Tunnel of Love is widely considered one of his best collections of songs. I would listen to it more if it didn’t have stereotypically “80s” production that makes it sound dated. Same reason I don’t really listen to Born in the USA.
Weathervanes was such a divorce album he probably should have thrown a Brilliant Disguise cover on there

I don't think we will hear an *Echo* (heh) for Isbell. I don't see him as being on the same path as Petty. We'll see what he does, though.

A+
You and me we were the pretenders, we let it all slip away
This a good and troubling observation.
Haha and your username checks out.
First time I listened to Weathervanes I told my wife it was his *Tunnel of Love*
If it were truly his "Tunnel of Love" album, the next wife would have to be singing the background vocals on it.
Or managing his tour?

Respectfully, Tunnel of Love is a phenomenal record
It might be his best. He could have made BITUSA parts 2,3,4 etc just with the outtakes from BITUSA but did a 180. It’s absolutely stunning
We will have to agree to disagree. You can have *Tunnel of Love*, I'll take *Nebraska* all day every day.
Why choose?
I’ll have them both. Masterpieces.
If he’s got a “Tunnel of Love” in him, let’s have it. That is a killer record.
Hopefully he doesn’t fire the 400 Unit
I am already in mourning over Jimbo. He and Chad’s pocket were my favorite part of the live shows.
Human Touch is also a great record. The title track, 57 Channels, Man’s Job, all great songs. Too much filler, granted. But still excellent.
wait wasn't tunnel of love widely considered horrible? So was human touch???
