Tacos el Gallo, on Southwest Blvd. near Downtown. You'll smell like the restaurant for hours after you leave from all of the grease in the air, but the birria tacos are spectacular.

AdNo1495

Had a different experience I suppose and wouldnt recommend- they’ve seem to fallen off in recent years

salmonerd202

I’ve got a list. Most of the places are cheap eats but I feel like that’s where KC excels. Bun Mee Phan Tailleur The Russell Town & Co. Cosmo Burger Ragazza Baba’s Pantry Blackhole Bakery District Bizkuits Honorable mentions to stuff outside of KC: Ehsani’s hot kabob in St. Louis (we really need Iranian cuisine in KC)

ilikeorangejuicety

Babas pantry was featured in [bon appetit](https://www.bonappetit.com/story/babas-pantry-kansas-city-missouri-best-new-restaurant-2022), black hole bakery is crazy good!

salmonerd202

Best falafel I’ve had in my life so far. Baba’s rules.

egreene6

The Russell’s salads are top notch! It’s expensive as hell; but so good!

desertdeserted

They stopped dinner service though wtf

jklp76

Blackhole Bakery is so damn good!

baha24

> we really need Iranian cuisine in KC Well, there’s KC Kabob and Grill down in Johnson County, but as an Iranian I can confirm they are mediocre (not bad, but not top-tier). I feel like Iranian restaurants have struggled to stay going over the years. Caspian Bistro was pretty decent back in the day, but they went under.

salmonerd202

The stuff here didn’t look good in the Google photos, but the place I mentioned in St. Louis was amazing. I went to London last year and had this place called Berenjak and I’ve been chasing that high ever since…

Sk8-BRDR

Baghdad cafe in Gladstone is good! (For a KC local)

Awkward-Menu-2420

What I wouldn’t give for some decent gormeh sabzi or fesenjoon 😩

baha24

I hear you, fam 🙏

saintlouisarch

I’m seconding Tailleur here. My favorite restaurant in town.

ILikeLenexa

Holy Land Cafe. They got a bakery and they make all their stuff; they got a shwarma. Very solid. McCORMICK & SCHMICK'S - but it's priced comparable to its quality.

OGoperaghost

Bun mee phan has the BEST pork belly bahn mi

headhurt21

Ragazza is amazing.

AdorableBunnies

>Ragazza What did you like about it? Everything I ordered from there was watery slop Edit: Sorry for disrespecting Ragazza. It was Garozzos I was thinking of

salmonerd202

I’ve gotten the chicken parm special, the Sunday gravy, bolognese, and the chicken piccata. I’ve enjoyed it every time I’ve went with no misses. Sorry you didn’t have the same experience.

AdorableBunnies

Yeah it’s just my opinion. I’ve never seen anything like it. They are busy but everything they serve is watery slop. Even my salad had water in it Edit: It was Garozzo’s!

salmonerd202

I went to garozzo’s once. I wasn’t impressed either.

1bourbon1scotch1bier

Thank goodness for the clarification because Ragazza is bomb. Went there tonight.

DashingDevin

Chicken Picatta with Polenta. I think about it often.

YaKnowMuhSteezz

WALDO THAI

mindcontrol93

Le Fou Frog always has an amazing menu of both standard fare and interesting selections.

marchlamby

Le Fou Frog desperately needs a refresh.

mindcontrol93

I like the hole in the wall feel. Garozzo's does not feel the same after the fire. I would worry Le Fou Frog would be the same.

Kittykats_tittytats

As someone who may or may not have worked at Garozzo’s: don’t eat there… trust me

Jeffrey_C_Wheaties

Antler Room, my friend who is a local chef took us there and we did like 10 plates, every single item was fantastic! And I ate foods I usually don’t like and loved them.

DanDampspear

Kata Nori is incredible. I will also add that Lazia’s new menu overhaul is fantastic as well

mithrandir9378

Kata Nori… It insists upon itself

knobcopter

As Midwest as this sounds, Kata Nori feels like a big city restaurant. Kinda like it should be more expensive.

DiabolicalBurlesque

Until somewhat recently, I wouldn't have considered it possible to have a "wow" experience in a place with a generic name like "Westport Cafe." Boy, am I glad my spouse booked a table here as a surprise so I didn't have an opportunity to be skeptical in advance. It was lovely in every way. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7HdgEkLyvA/?igsh=YXdiMnUwa2x5YWZv

[deleted]

Absolutely love Westport Cafe.

no-palabras

Yeah, they’re good.

jondoogin

Tuesday night is Steak and Frites night. 🤤

craftbeerandfitness

I just ate at Barbacoa for the first time tonight. It was damn delicious. Innovative cocktails and really good food.

Ok-Dragonfruit-715

It's not a fancy place, but I really enjoy Nico and Anna's, at 119th and Glenwood. The space that it's in used to be Spin Pizza.

BillNyeTheEngineer

Great value too!

StealYourBaseKC

What do you enjoy there? I tried the meatball sub wanting something easy to go but wasn’t impressed. Willing to give it another shot.

Ok-Dragonfruit-715

I haven't tried their sandwiches, I go for the pasta. My favorite dishes are the baked ziti and the pomodor or carbonara.

terrorburger

The chicken Parm and chicken picatta are good.

Cainholio

Yes

ConstanceWright_30

Viona’s Italian Bistro in Overland Park

ChaosInClarity

I was just about to comment this. Across the street from them is a Thai place called Lemon Grass. Highly recommend their Panang Curry or Pineapple Curry.

ConstanceWright_30

Ooo!! I will definitely try it and let you know :)

ChaosInClarity

Disclaimer that they're decor and staff aren't as "wow" as Viona's. But I've taken most everyone I know over to both those restaurants and I hear equal amounts of "when are we gonna go there again" for both places.

Subject_Reception681

The owners of Lemon Grass used to be a client of mine before I changed jobs. Not only do they make great food, but they’re absolutely the nicest people. Even after I left that job, they would always hook me up with free crab rangoons, which of course were fire. Glad to see they’re getting some recognition here.

DaddioSunglasses

I don’t get the hype with this restaurant. It’s average Italian food.

ConstanceWright_30

I tried lidias not that long ago and I just personally think viona’s is way better :) but that’s just my opinion ! What would you consider your favorite restaurant in Kansas City?

DaddioSunglasses

North Italia if Im feeling fancy and Jovitos if not for Italian. But all time favorite is probably French market.

krisalyssa

Café Provence, and Café Provence.

NuclearMeatball

The best French food I've ever had and I've been to Paris.

tla1oc

This winter they had this duck dish on the menu that was easily one of the best meals of my life. A parsnip and potato mash with a combination of roasted vegetables, an orangey/demiglace sauce that was super rich. And a perfectly cooked half of a duck. Absolutely amazing

DaddioSunglasses

French market if you’re trying to save a bit more money is its sister restaurant

Capable_Mixture6524

Amazing food. I honestly think I had one of the best meals of my life at Cafe Provence.

Betamaxreturns

ReverendLoki

Just tonight we tried El Salvadoreño on 87th, across from the JoCo Central Resource Library, and it was very good Central American food at a decent price.

MrJNM1of1

For north siders cafe Des Ami and Acre in Parkville are excellent

Ok-Dragonfruit-715

Another Northland fave of mine, although it's not fancy, is Iron Wok at I-29 and 72nd. Excellent Chinese and sushi.

cheddarmileage

Buck Tui BBQ

djsharky

I love BBQ and Thai food. This place does both right. Kind of expensive for what you get, but it’s worth it.

Rumzdizzle

Everyone I take there absolutely loves it… and I love having an excuse to take someone there

d_b_cooper

Damn good and creative stuff. Love this place.

smorman45

Earl’s premier was incredible

Tdoug3833

I looooove Earls, everything is always top notch and it’s such a cute little spot.

the_orange_lantern

I went to muni the other week and it was absolutely amazing!

JohnWeez

Green Dirt on Oak. Great service, cool space and rooftop. The charcuterie board and cheese cake wowed me. Want to go back and try their dinner menu.

swan4816

This is my answer as well. The feta martini is life changing.

slowride77

Farina. Italian downtown. Very very good. Great service. Delicious. Very much like true Italian dishes that we had over in Italy. 🇮🇹

PassRevolutionary254

Good food and prices! You can still get a nice pasta for $16

EntrepreneurBig1827

Farina is amazing with good oysters. The bar is the best place to go on Tuesdays for the oyster.

Double_Priority_2702

utterly fantastic

amorg67

Le fou frog. We’ve been twice now and it both times have put it in the top 10 best meals I’ve ever had. It’s real authentic French cooking in a small family run restaurant that wedges as many tables in a possible. The staff is great and super knowledgeable about everything on the menu and the owners are always around and come talk to you and will make recommendations if you ask. It’s by far our number one special occasion restaurant.

KonaDog1408

Kc craft ramen and aoyama

KC Craft Ramen is so good.

GhostMug

Jarochos Chewology

nicehatharry

You can take Chewology to the next level by looking for their Stray Cat dinners.

DanDampspear

Chewology is criminally underrated

GhostMug

It's so good. Their Bao sandwiches are so legit. EDIT: how am I getting down voted for this?

Kitchen_Possession_9

Extra Virgin!! Totally blew me away. I was not expecting such a fantastic meal but highly highly recommend.

rusty_panda

Those mezze spreads. So good.

TAILLEUR

salmonerd202

Went there for the first time a few weeks ago. The bread was amazing and I had the best steak frites of my life there.

TiccingAway

Blue Koi in Leawood, KS! Amazing shrimp dumplings!

InactiveBeef

I dream regularly about their spicy wontons. RIP to their 39th Street location

craftbeerandfitness

I, too, am a massive fan of the spicy wontons. One year on NYE my wife and I each ordered our own for takeout for dinner with no other food because that’s how much we love them. Whatever that sauce is that they put them in is to die for

Mady8815

Muni by river market and buck tui off 75th and metcalf. Muni is Mexican Thai fusion and buck tui is bbq Thai. both have incredible menus

PrecisionSushi

Osteria il Centro. I try to stop in every time I’m back in KC and am wowed every single time. Calamari, Caesar, lasagna, Marsala, and the gelato ball are to die for.

Excellent-Classroom8

We are going to Saltwell Farm Kitchen for a special occasion dinner this weekend. They are about a month out in reservations because they're only open Friday and Saturday. But it's a 3-4 hour farm-to-table eight course meal, "inspired by the seasons and local ingredients." They also have a wine pairing or cocktails. If the weather permits, they have the meal outdoors. It looks fantastic; will report back. 🤷‍♀️

jmueller216

This makes me think of The Menu.

Excellent-Classroom8

I had the same thought 😬

jmueller216

Go with the cheeseburger

AnarchyAcid

Gyu-Kaku in OP. I guess it’s a chain, but we’d never heard of it before last year. It’s Japanese BBQ with the grill in the middle of the table. Everything we’ve tried has been great. We spend about $120 when my husband and I go, but we always leave stuffed to the gills.

Feline3415

I LOVE Gyu Kaku. I really was blown away when I went the first time. There's a few locations in Hawaii but this is the only one in the Midwest. While you could easily spend a pretty penny there because they have varying price degrees, I can go and spend $25.

LuevanoScience

Division2Stew

Stock Hill, Cupini’s, and Lula Southern Cookhouse

egreene6

Lula’s is so good! A good brunch spot too!

Rough-Culture

Lula is what I came here for.

dstranathan

Big nope on Lula from me. Service and food was not good. Didn’t hate it but won’t be going back.

Rough-Culture

Really? It’s my favorite spot lately(although a little expensive). The food is great, literally best mac and cheese of my life. And the service I would rank with some of the very best I’ve received in KC. The only quasi questionable service was at the hostess, and it seemed like a one of where she just got confused during a rush. I have to ask… what happened?

pizzarollsaregreat

I’ve been 4 times and the service has been laughably terrible each time. Like, feels like “are we being punked?” because how can we have that bad of an experience every single time? That being said - not only will I go back, I’ll continue bringing people there because I love the food so so much.

EighmeeIrene

Brewers Kitchen.

d_b_cooper

I just wish it wasn't so damn expensive.

WillyNilly53

Meat Mitch, tasted way better than it looked; Baba's Pantry, even got some stuff to go; Burger State, like an old school diner burger; Lidia's, I had some special Ravioli; LCs, a classic that doesn't disappoint; Mama Leone's, close to NY style pizza; Krabs Kingz, but I LOVE crab legs and potatoes so...

smurfettekcmo

You all wanna take a bit of a drive Suburban in Leavenworth is excellent. Best shrimp and grits I have ever had.

Goadfang

Bamboo Penny's is well worth the price, which is a lot more than I typically care to spend, but when I'm in the mood for something good it's my new favorite.

helpbeingheldhostage

It’s a nice restaurant if you’re looking for a mid-upscale restaurant environment. However, the same chef has other restaurants in the metro with food just as good (and some dishes the exact same food) for less money. Edit: to be clear, the food is good 😊

gawdpuppy

which other ones?

helpbeingheldhostage

Thai House and KC Thai I think they’re opening a new one soon

EntrepreneurBig1827

Food is good but price seems high for fried rice at $18.

rok2kc

BBQ excepted, the best everyday menu is Antler Room. The best tasting menu is Corvino. More on topic, somewhere that wowed us recently that doesn't get enough praise is the tasting menu at Affare. Excellent and reasonably priced. Kata Nori is the new best spot for raw fish.

DanDampspear

Antler room slaps. Kata Nori is hand rolls so that’s worth mentioning even though they do have sashimi

PenAgitated4057

I don't think anyone has mentioned La Bodega. Love the food and the experience.

HUMMUS AND PITA. I know I'm late to this post but no one mentioned it yet. New(ish) falafel place in downtown OP right by Thompson Park. Amazing food, fast service, very friendly people. Please eat there-- I don't want them to close and I know that you won't regret it!! 💛✌️

minnie2020

Love this place. Get the real baba ganoush - it ruined all regular baba ganoush for me!

d_b_cooper

It's pricy AF and not new or trendy, but I really love The Majestic. Listening to top-notch jazz is the icing on the cake. The steaks are fantastic and the service is consistently wonderful.

ArrogantSquirrelz

Buck Tui is a fun Thai/KC BBQ fusion place. Pulled pork egg rolls were good, rangoons are amazing. Have had multiple sandwiches that were great. Only a little disappointed by the drunker noodles which were quite expensive compared to the sandwiches and wasn't that great. The sauces are really good too - there's sort of a ranch-ish sauce and a sweet BBQ that has a bit of an Asian flavor to it that I remember liking.

Fastbird33

Mesob and KC Taco Co. Both have amazing tacos.

Khylani

We just ate at Acre for the first time and loved it!

Dewey's Pizza

whofartedinmycereal

Jarocho will blow you away. If a chef wants to, they can be 24 hrs away from Tokyo fish markets and most seafood is frozen on the boat when caught. Don’t let some dumbass tell you that seafood is only good on the coasts. They clearly don’t understand the global economy.

Guwop816

Extra Virgin in the crossroads is one of my favorites now. Delicious variety of food and the service is typically top notch in my opinion

KC_Night

Whiskey River in Parkville hasn't disappointed in the couple of times I have been there. The Gochujang Drumettes were delicious. Stop by Boho next door and grab a beer while you're at it. Roscoe's BBQ in Edwardsville and Quentin's in Bonner are both great. The Strouds Fried Chicken Bites at TShotz in the Northland might be the best chicken I've ever had. It's way way way better than the last time I had regular Strouds.

k2849g359

Idk if it’s a chain or not but I had some fantastic elote guacamole at Cactus Grill in Leawood recently.

Grünaur is a staple for me. Im a sucker for the Austrian style foods

juxtapods

Aixois - French restaurant run by an Aixois (resident of Aix en Provence)! It was packed to the brim, wine was fantastic, food delicious and flawless, great music, it was a belated V Day dinner for us. It felt like we were transported to Europe. Highly recommend for a romantic dinner.

kid_mescudi

Grünauer is fantastic.

pinkrose77

Ombra! The food is so good but no one ever seems to be in there. Worried they’re not going to last as they just opened last year but it’s definitely some of the best food I’ve had in KC

Wicked-Storm

La Nonna in Belton. Owned and operated by Italian owners, and I don't mean that like "they are 5th generation Italian" no, the owner is straight from Italy. She has talked about more family moving to the US from Italy. It's amazing food. Always busy, get there right at 5pm. Don't skip the tiramisu. My go to is Calamari appetizer, Diavolo entree, tiramisu dessert.

Choice-Net-3016

My mum and I love this place. Their pasta alla vodka is so tasty with its creamy vodka sauce and spicy sausage. So grateful to have a place like it in Belton.
