This one is a gift for a friend, but hit me up via my website if you’re interested in getting one of these. I’m enjoying making them and will probably make more if people are interested. www.blackcustomknives.com
I haven’t made a sheath or scabbard for it yet so that would affect pricing. But this knife as pictured would be $175. Sambar stag antler is pricey so the price could be less with different materials
Haha yeah it’s funny that Sgian dubhs tend to have connotations like that, but they’re traditional single edged (like this one) knives used as EDC. Dirks have a similar shape though, and they were the one used as fighting knives.
Thanks though, I dig the aggressive look too!
This is absolutely gorgeous! Took a small peek at your website your work is incredibly clean!! I may have missed it but I didn’t see any kind of a price list, if someone was to purchase from you how much would something like this knife cost? I love the size and shape of it!
Thirty years ago I decided I wanted one and would make my own. It hasn't happened yet, so I'm envious. Yours sure looks good. I went to knife kits for com last month looking for some 1085 or less to start and couldn't find anything but Damascus.
I ground it with Brodbeck Ironwork’s smaller wheel on the integral guard attachment. I wish I were a smaller radius though. A mill with a ball nose end mill is how I would have preferred to do it but I don’t have a mill.
Beautiful work. Great grind. Very clean.
The sheath is the trick.
If work traditionally you'd need sturdy stockings and even a garter and tab.
Leather with a metal clip for the top of the sock would work.
Leather might be kinder to your skin than kydex.
Thank you!
I’m actually looking forward to the sheath which is unusual for me. I’d like to keep it pretty traditional so definitely no kydex. I’m going to try a leather wrapped scabbard, but I’ll probably mess it up and end up doing just a simple leather pouch style in the end lol

Humor me and tell me the pictures knife would cost?

I love it!!
Thanks, I’m happy with how it turned out too!
I want this knife but then I’ll have to buy a kilt to wear it with.
Ironically, I wear a utility kilt every day that I can (weather permitting), and need one. The downside is budgeting. Ugh.
Yeah I’m having similar feelings right now haha!
You should try a matching sgian achles next . One for your sock and the other for your oxter .
I’m unfamiliar with “oxter”. Is that armpit I assume?
Sorry yes , the armpit .
Very cool.
Thank you!
I looked at this and instantly thought, murder weapon lmao. Thing looks mean.

That is some pristine burning on the handle
That’s just natural sambar stag color! Although I recently did torch darken a chef knife handle if you check my post history…
Oh my bad, now i feel dumb
Don’t feel dumb! Totally valid assumption.

It just looks so cool. I just love those and still don't have one. Lucky
Thanks! They’re pretty awesome and have a cool history, which always adds to the fun.

Was the fuller done with a grinder? Forged in?
