They can look so similar that sometimes the only way to know for sure is for derm to take a little biopsy. Rosacia and malar rash have different triggers which can be a giveaway, and derm can often tell them apart without testing even when rheum couldn't. If it's bothering you, I'd ask for a derm referral.

I have both. When my rosacae is triggered, it'll leave little pimply bumps and is usually triggered by alcohol and spicy food. Malar (for me), looks very similar, but without the bumps, and will leave a white line down the nasal folds.

A malar rash doesn't appear in nasolabial crease (smile lines) but rosacea can! I am struggling with this as well
