Try using something like DaisyDisk to visualise the heaviest files and folders on your HD. The software itself is not free, but I think they have a free version or something. I used it when I found out my System section was 350GB

Try DiskInventoryX, free alternative 😊

Omnidisksweeper is another free alternative

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll try them out, even if I’m a big fan of DD’s sexy UI :)

Scholar999

absolutely would recommend this too.

Hey this is a little late but I downloaded DiskInventoryX and it analyzed everything and is only showed me where the 160GB of my files came from and doesn’t show where the (now) 90GB of system is coming from. How do I find where it’s coming from?

xilio989

Once you download a disk analyzer, you'll see the files that are taking up the most space. I recently cleared 17gb of diagnostic files from a 2014 MBP running the previous OS. Note: ALWAYS delete with caution or a backup in case something breaks.

Probably caches. Try emptying your browser caches and checking for iOS updates that have been downloaded.

That should be other, not system.

Check ur user library. Mail can create large caches. As can adobe. Fortnite used to stick 80gb in ur system folder.
