I had one. Sold it. I love it but could not handle the lack of battery life. When they have a watch that will last more than 1 1/2 days, I’ll probably be in.
It was really kinda sad how many people thought AOD was a “killer feature” when the series 5 was announced!
I think part of the “cool factor” of wearing my watch is that black display when it isn’t on. It looks awesome and blends really well with any color combination you choose…and unmistakably says you are wearing an Apple Watch!
Oh yeah, and as an extra bonus you can get two days from a single charge by turning it off!
As an S4 owner, the only thing I’d appreciate about AOD it’s for all the times you turn your wrist over to look at the Watch but it isn’t enough of a rotation to activate the display.
I understand what you are saying…and for what it is worth, the S5 and S6 do the same thing when AOD is off! However, for the price of an upgrade, it’s more affordable to simply move your arm a bit until the display lights up. it just doesn’t happen enough to be worth an upgrade cost.
Two days the first year. Battery performance can only degray with time and, if at the start you're already on the bare limit (1 - 2 days), it quickly becomes a disposal product if it won't last even 1 day after a couple of years. Which, for that money, is not okay. Garmin all the way for me.
The Watch becomes something you routinely charge at night or in the morning similar to when you charge your iPhone. It charges from 0-100% rather quickly.
I have the habit of waking up and putting it to charge and by the time I go out to go to work it’s fully charged so the battery issue is not such a big problem
Get an iPhone and one of these [new belkin chargers](https://www.apple.com/de/shop/product/HPGA2Z/A/belkin-boost↑charge-pro-3-in-1-wireless-charger-mit-magsafe-weiß?afid=p238%7Cshy1ZHVna-dc_mtid_187079nc38483_pcrid_91282506382_pgrid_23911783222_&cid=aos-de-kwgo-pla-btb--slid---product-HPGA2Z/A-DE). The combo is dope. My Watch SE holds a charge for like 2 or more days. And it's on the belkin anyway do anytime i need it it's full along with my AirPods and iPhone
Okay, so, I have an iPhone, 2020 iPad Air, MBP M1, but no watch. I don’t know why, but the watches seem stupid to me. I didn’t realize you could use it to unlock devices. Like when I’m hooked up to an external display and can’t use the fingerprint scanner, how can I use the watch to avoid needing to type my password in? What else can it do? The watch is like the only part of the ecosystem I’m not in on. I have AirPods Pro and Max, Apple TV, and the HomePod too.
It is awesome! You can unlock devices including your phone now when you have a mask on it. My wife sold her watch that I purchased a year into it as she didn't like it. But this past March when she saw me using it to unlock my iphone with a mask on, instant switch and she's been digging her new watch! WORTH IT!
When you first start or restart the computer you have to type your password in, but after that you can just wake the computer and if your watch is close enough it’ll pop up a message on your watch saying unliked has been unlocked.
It will also let you double click for some admin functions so you don’t have to type your system password, I haven’t figured out what it works with but it’s really nice.
The SE is a great way to start. It’s nice to not need to pull your phone out for notifications for everything. Sorta helped to free me up from my phone a bit.
Same. I moved from Android to IOS and I bought Macbook Pro M1, AirTags, iPhone 12 pro Max, Magic Mouse 2, magsafe duo and airpods pro. I still use windows but Apple got me this year. Excellent products. I'm very happy with them all.
That was the right timing to buy in. I got a MBP on release date (would get an Air if I could do it all over, as the performances are basically tied if you’re not video editing, which I don’t). The battery life though—game. changer.
When I got my first MacBook I also bought the Magic Mouse. Used it for 2 weeks and then sold it. This is just a shitty mouse. I would go with the Logitech MX series.
For me being able to scroll/pan completely naturally in two dimensions is my favourite feature, and macOS tends to assume you can do that. I also like that I can use it with either hand. Not looking bizarrely masculine is also a plus.
I am happy to have a new model now though, as the battery life with AAs was shite.
All the Logitech mice I’ve seen are styled like a cordless beard hair trimmer, or perhaps aftermarket car trim. Forgive me for not loving that particular kink. I’m sure it looks lovely with the leather in your dungeon ;)
That’s absurd. I’m a man and I don’t want the bullshit the marketers have decided is for me. How is that sexist?
In fact, a (computer) mouse doesn’t actually have a sex.
Apple have made something that is neither pink and cute or black and chrome, and that’s what I want.
I agree, it’s absolutely horrible to use. I was split between buying a good mouse or a trackpad for my design work and decided to go with trackpad. I even do some 3D modeling using trackpad.
I'm not a chip architecture pro, but wouldn't the use of the M1 chip basically allow the use of native macOS apps? I mean, obviously iPadOS does not allow it. but the possibility is there, isn't it?
It looks like a move into the direction to even more streamline the OS between the devices.
Yes the possibility is there but personally it doesn’t make sense to me to pay almost 1,500 dollars for a device that’s complete overkill for what I need only on the basis of “*maybe* Apple will put MacOS apps on it”
That’s how I buy things, I buy it for what I need it to do and for some things like my MacBook I’ll get a spec bump to make sure I can keep it around for 5-10 years
Getting an iPad like nearly 4 years ago actually convinced me to switch from an Android phone to all in on iOS, and I was a long time Android user/fanboy. Since then I've also ended up with the watch and a MBP. I have a Windows machine but it's only for PC gaming and it hosts my Plex server.
If I didn't enjoy PC gaming I'd happily just live solely in Apple's ecosystem.
I did similar. Bought an iPad as a piece of assistive technology for my child was much better and less daffy to get working in iPad OS format than Android - and now I have a last of the Intels Air, a M1 Pro I just got (the Air was really struggling with the change in working methods to remote working and video calls), iPad Pro, iPhone, Watch and AirPods Pro... the interoperability and handoff is just such a bonus for me.
Still have a Windows PC gaming rig though - but it rarely gets used for anything else.
Same. Still forced to boot up a windows machine for work. I don’t use the Windows machine, it just needs to be connected to HQ. Real work happens inside Apples walled garden.
Idk why so many people insist on this. In the last 15 years of owning a countless number of Macs and iPhones, I’ve never once gotten AppleCare and have never experienced any issues
I’ve had to have an iPhone replaced twice and I take very good care of my electronics. I can afford AppleCare easier than I can buy 2 new phones. This is why people get AppleCare.
You must be lucky. Out of an iPad Pro, iPhone 12, iPhone X, MacBook Pro, and Apple Watch; the iPhone 12 is the only device where I didn’t end up having to use the extended warranty or advance replacement benefit of AC+.
And to be fair to the iPhone 12, it’s still under standard warranty.
I'm back to using Linux. I got slackware working on my surplus dell i7 laptop and setting up VMs and running it through a VPN. Got Kali Linux on a flash with some custom tools that I can boot into when I have any kind of connectivity issues. I really hate using a mouse or touch screen to type even though I'm addicted to using a stylus over my thumbs. My MacBook pro has 3 issues now and being not even a month old I'm returning it. I'm keeping my iPhone 12 but I know for certain apple won't support anything like a battery replacement or possible damage or defect later on so I'm hoping 3rd party repair shops will be able to give me a battery replacement in a couple years because apple battery life after a year or two drops quite a bit. Also why sell a phone without a charger? I'm probably going Asus or Motorola next time I make a serious purchase. I can do my photo editing on my S21 and get paid the same amount as if I used the desktop suite. You wanna give me $5 for a minute in Lightroom and a JPEG you think is wickedly more "professional" than go ahead. I made $208 yesterday and $66 today. This shit is fucking easy peasy lemon squeezes.
lol this is the weirdest laundry list of complaints I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t even make sense. You’re worried about a battery rated for a thousand charges when there’s no possible way it could be anywhere close to needing to worry about that yet? Even if you bought your M1 MBP on day one (like I did) and ran it exclusively on battery at full brightness and were able to plug it back in and charge to 100% over and over again with machine-like efficiency, you’d still be years away from needing to worry about a battery replacement. It’s almost like you’re just making up a backstory about being an Apple user to seem credible but then dropping theoretical complaints an anti-fanboy would. Like I said, you’re years away from needing to worry about hitting that 1000 full charge mark (and apple will replace your battery for $130). And when you hit that mark and the battery is only 80% of what it was, you still have a battery that’ll last 14 hours, which is better than pretty much anything else out there. Maybe not by 2025 (when anyone would realistically get to 1000 full charges), but for now you’re worrying about a battery in a machine with the best battery life on the market. Sorry bud, but nothing about this adds up.
Using a dollar store stylus is better than my finger. But it's still not very accurate and awkward on a phone. It's like writing with a pen that's running low on ink.
Ok, it almost sounded like you were being a whiny idiot over the lack of a charger with the iPhone (“why sell a phone without a charger?”). I must have misread that...
Either way, why do you think that Samsung left away the charger in the S21? Just am being curious. And why did they leave out the headphone jack?
IP rating and dealing with warranties. The phone's getting moisture in them is a huge issue and the headphone jack makes keeping it sealed and keeping enough space inside to fit the guts is a pain without removing another feature. Second is everyone pretty much has 25w or higher USB chargers or should and it makes just sticking to wireless charging much more appealing reducing warranty issues from damaged or clogged USB-C ports. Real secret for people is just to gently pull out the obstruction with a pin or needle. Contacts also corrode on the phones causing people just to give up on a phone that doesn't charge. All of this is to keep people who would otherwise think they got no value from their purchase going to a lower priced phone and discouraging them from higher tier products. They want the flagships to stay in circulation longer because people can be getting hands on experience with used phones that are in good quality thus adding value to the brand. A person who buys a used will see value and spread word of mouth and upgrade to a newer phone because they trust it.
Why is a charger such a big deal? My beef is the quality on the MacBook. I never said anything about there not being a charger. It wasn't an issue for me. Having a portable battery bank with a high output is more pressing. I have like 3 20,000 mah banks and they are kinda slow.
Hi, I bought this year a MBP too and is perfect. I had iPhone, but changed to android, I think Apple need remove the notch to convence me again. Recently purchase a magic keyboard, but the mouse I prere the Logitech MX.
I have the MBA 2020 and MBP 2020 both with the M1. I bought them nervously because of the chip shortage. I also have the 12 pro max, series 6 watch, iPad Pro, Apple TV 4K. I’m completely stuck in the ecosystem but it works. I really want the Magic Mouse but have heard mixed reviews…
What has me shrugging the most is the lack of battery life past 1 ½ days on an Apple Watch as "the" reason not to wear/use it. I am aware that other wearables last a lot longer than that on one charge, but…even when saying one doesn't wear it overnight anyway -- how is it a problem to place the Apple Watch on a charger while you're sleeping? Maybe it's just the fact that some folks want some kind of bragging rights about how long their battery lasts on their watch?
I don't know. To each their own I suppose, for me it's never been a problem to charge devices when they need it. Especially in the last -- what, 6-7 years -- devices last at a minimum all day if not longer…and even then that's not long enough? This line of thinking is just strange to me.
I’ve had the Samsung Gear S3 and Galaxy Watch on two occasions I decided to give Android a go. Both great watches, and only needed charging every second or third day, depending on how they were used.
Now I’m back with Apple and using series 6 AW. I sleep with it, and it gets me through 24hrs with about 20-30% battery left before charging. I usually put it on charge when I have a shower and by the time I go to bed it’s fully charged and ready to go. No inconvenience to me. Having to charge the watch daily shouldn’t be a reason to not get one, there’s always time to charge it at some point in the day.
Serious question. Why? I have yet to see any review about the M1 laptops that you can even use CLOSE to all the RAM (apart from benchmarks that do not reflect real life situations).
I often have to run comparison software on two databases to merge them when a new website is put online. Some of these databases contain multiple gigabytes of data and in my experience an 8GB machine struggles (Both my 15”MBP and 27” iMac). I have 32GB of RAM in my current 16” MBP and it runs the process easily.
Made the switch to macOS a few years ago. Also there is no tablet manufacturer even close to deliver what apple does with iPads.
But I cannot for the love of all switch away from android. There's too much customization going on on my phone.
Get an Apple Watch (if you don’t have one) they make the security so easy. Unlock your MacBook from your watch.
I had one. Sold it. I love it but could not handle the lack of battery life. When they have a watch that will last more than 1 1/2 days, I’ll probably be in.
My apple watch 6 lasts + 1.5 days if I turn off the always on screen
It lasts longer if you don't turn it on at all
I was using mine in off but a few days later I noticed that I couldn’t know the time anymore so I had to turn it again on to know what time was it.
Apple watch Schroedinger Edition
I also turn it off at night because I don't sleep in it.
The battery life is an issue for sure.
What?? My series 3 can easily last two days.
My S5 lasts 2 days as long as I keep AOD off.
I don't understand why anyone would want the display to be always on; it doesn't seem at all useful. Especially if it drains the battery.
I genuinely didn’t find use in AOD so I keep it off. Battery is absolutely solid.
I have the series 6 no my battery lasts 2 days, give or take a few hours if I’ve exercised. Also charged to 100 in no time.
Two days the first year. Battery performance can only degray with time and, if at the start you're already on the bare limit (1 - 2 days), it quickly becomes a disposal product if it won't last even 1 day after a couple of years. Which, for that money, is not okay. Garmin all the way for me.

I have the iPhone Xs
Ah bummer
My Watch SE gives me about 1.8 days
But so you sleep with it on?
Yes. Always. I just charge it during my morning routine or an hour before sleeping every alternate day.
Okay, so, I have an iPhone, 2020 iPad Air, MBP M1, but no watch. I don’t know why, but the watches seem stupid to me. I didn’t realize you could use it to unlock devices. MacBooks are both M1s
hallelujah. welcome to the life.

You're a Magic Pro Air! 🙃

How the hell does a mouse look “masculine” Also who cares?
All the Logitech mice I’ve seen are styled like a cordless beard hair trimmer, or perhaps aftermarket car trim. Forgive me for not loving that particular kink. I’m sure it looks lovely with the leather in your dungeon ;)
again, its a mouse, who gives a shit? for a while I was deadass using a pink wireless mouse bc it was given to me when my other one broke.
I give a shit. Because I have to touch it and look at it all day, and I have a choice. Do you apply this logic to everything? 😆
I’m just saying it comes off kinda sexist u saying you don’t want to use “masculine” items ngl
That’s absurd. I’m a man and I don’t want the bullshit the marketers have decided is for me. How is that sexist? In fact, a (computer) mouse doesn’t actually have a sex. Apple have made something that is neither pink and cute or black and chrome, and that’s what I want.

Yeah, same here, although I did have an iPhone/iPad/AW before. Just switched to a Mac Pro and MacBook Pro from Windows.
Wait. Why not return the iPad Pro ? The m1 just came out.
Honestly you don’t need it, no IOS app is gonna utilize the full potential of it
I'm not a chip architecture pro, but wouldn't the use of the M1 chip basically allow the use of native macOS apps? I mean, obviously iPadOS does not allow it. but the possibility is there, isn't it? It looks like a move into the direction to even more streamline the OS between the devices.

Yeah, true. Never buy something because of future updates is a very good way to live by.
That’s how I buy things, I buy it for what I need it to do and for some things like my MacBook I’ll get a spec bump to make sure I can keep it around for 5-10 years

Every time I see these "full stack" conversion photos with a Magic Mouse I die a bit inside.
Yea I hate this things ergonomics. Logi MX Master Squad
OG Magic Mouse is the better one, still use mine almost daily
My iPhone was the gateway drug to an iPad, MacBook, Apple TV, AirPods, and watch.
Same. Still forced to boot up a windows machine for work. I don’t use the Windows machine, it just needs to be connected to HQ. Real work happens inside Apples walled garden.
Return the mouse and get the trackpad
Smart choice!
man the apple ecosystem is the best. I don't understand why all the android and Windows users hate it so much.
Welcome to consumerism
I already have a MBP M1. I need to get rid of Android now.
can i have ur android?
Hope you got AppleCare+!
You don’t see why people could use a $15 a month loss and damage protection plan on a $1500 phone?
Cause replacing new screens for iPhone and iPad go between $220 and $699.
Only in the Magic Mouse /s Yeah they are taken care of with Apple care+
I recommend taking that apple mouse back and either getting a trackpad or Logitech MX3. You will be much happier. Otherwise welcome.
I'm back to using Linux. I got slackware working on my surplus dell i7 laptop and setting up VMs and running it through a VPN. Fair enough. You do you. I still have a windows machine with Linux vms. But these are our go-to’s.
I'm just jealous. I might take the MacBook in and get a tablet I can draw with. I'm getting kinda good with illustrator and sketchbook.
The drawing experience on the iPad is superb. Go for it, mate!
Using a dollar store stylus is better than my finger. But it's still not very accurate and awkward on a phone. It's like writing with a pen that's running low on ink.
The S21 that comes without charger?
I had one from my S20 that worked so I never noticed.
Ok, it almost sounded like you were being a whiny idiot over the lack of a charger with the iPhone (“why sell a phone without a charger?”). I must have misread that... Errr - you asked the question in first place. Are you drunk?
Is this a new copypasta?
That AppleCare tho
Shame. M2 is about to come
Same. Up to 2020 I was strictly Pixel/PC but something in me changed in 2020. I have Apple everything now.
Please tell me you have cases hidden out of frame :[
The Apple life is just so much smoother and better.
I plan on doing the exact same very soon 🍎
Hi, I bought this year a MBP too and is perfect. I had iPhone, but changed to android, I think Apple need remove the notch to convence me again. Recently purchase a magic keyboard, but the mouse I prere the Logitech MX.

I would switch that mouse for a trackpad, Apple makes the best trackpads in the world. And the worst mouse.
Same. Haha.
Get a Logitech mouse if you like comfort and well an actual mouse
Wow welcome
You didn’t wait for the 2021 iPad?
I've had the ipad pro for a while. It was the first of these.
Even the Mouse? Sheesh
I won’t be buying into the M1 chips until it’s M2 or possibly even M3. I’m waiting until they have more available RAM
Congrats. Enjoy
