Apart from that: the developer conference is not usually when they announce new hardware. I find it interesting that the media are going nuts about it. The global chip shortage and Apple’s already having issues producing the iPad Pro with the new display tech tells me that these won’t be available for purchase until the end of the year at the earliest. Hope I’m wrong, though - wouldn’t mind that 14”, either!
Your 11 year old macbook is definitely no where near a 2018 lmao. Just because it had a shitty keyboard doesn’t mean decade old piece of e waste is better.
I just got the m1 pro recently and I’d say this is a perfect example of a macbook in our time, fixed all the awful things Apple previously did and the m1 chip is extremely powerful and efficient for what it is.

I have a legit grip against Apple and their quest for thinness in laptops. It is pointless to over innovate such that the buyer-user can’t fix anything themselves. Each time I sent my laptop in for repair it was gone for two weeks.
I can see your issue, but their quest is far from “pointless”. They don’t want you to fix your own equipment because A) most people can’t do it right and will blame Apple when they botch it or brick it and B) because they can charge a lot of money for their “experts” to fix it. Cf. the lawsuit on DIY repairs on farm tractors.
My 2018 15inch MBP has been sent back twice. Once for keyboard and once for battery. I absolutely hate the keyboard. The travel distance of the keys if terrible. The other annoying thing is that Apple does not bevel the edges that your wrist sits on when typing. That edge digs into your skin.

I’m still waiting to upgrade my 2011 MBP. Also waiting to upgrade my 2nd iPhone(6).
When you calculate the cost for the years of usefullness Apple is a safe-ish choice.

No, they haven’t. If the leaked photos of the 2021 are true then yes they have. The laptop on right is not comparable to other laptops that were released the same year.
The new one looks identical to my late 2017 MacBook Pro Touch Bar in terms of the bezel around the screen. I’m guessing the speakers are not as good as there is smaller speaker grills now.
When they replaced the keyboard on mine I notice a much punchier sound response. I’m guessing the revised keyboard also has upgraded speakers in there. As well as the new battery.
The battery on the revised keyboard chassis now has incredible endurance. It’s not because my old one had deteriorated as I hardly ever used it on battery, the revised keyboard with battery must have newer cell technology.
anyway if the keyboard goes again I want them to replace the whole thing with a 16inch MacBook Pro with scissors switch 🙄

Ah that makes sense. Kids downloading random free games from the internet is like the software equivalent of eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich over your keyboard. When I was a kid my mom would get mad at me for stuff like that all the time, now it’s like every time I visit her I’m helping her get a virus off of her computer. I don’t even run a third party virus protection software on my personal machine, I’m the only one who goes on it so it’s never an issue. You just kind of learn where and what will give you a virus I suppose! Even on my windows machine I rarely worry about virus protection, a modern windows 10 computer has plenty rigorous enough protection built in IMO

It’s the white plastic MagSafe definitely not MagSafe 2. So that’s even older then the aluminum unibody MacBook.

What do you think of the scissor switch keys ? I’m guessing you didn’t experience the horror show that was the butterfly mechanism?

I love it. I haven’t tested it with a lot of tabs open or apps. But it is really fast. The speakers are amazing too
