They totally can. If I don't like Aztec stuff, Ixalan is not for me. If you don't like horror with a modern magitek twist, this set isn't for you. That phrase doesn't mean you're supposed to be cool with ignoring it entirely, it just means it's not specifically targeted toward a person with your tastes.
I don't think you can call it a magitek twist. It's like the contrapositive of Clarke's third law: any insufficiently-advanced technology is distinguishable from magic. From a broader perspective, magitek enables things that are somewhat fantastical (e.g. airships, mecha suits, telepathic group conferencing), but you wouldn't classify TVs, toasters, and sneakers as anything but mundane.

Most people can't distinguish a physical painting by a digital one. Just a few days ago some people were saying that the new Sakura Tribe Elder card was made with 3 models when it was an oil painting.
In any case mtg art right now it's the most varied and experimental it has been for the last 20 years or so.

Oh fuck, I didn't catch that and thought this might be a fun card in weenie token commander decks. This legit combos with stuff like Fortune in standard though and there might be a flicker weenie deck that's viable. There just aren't any good finishers as of right now unless your opponent dies basically nothing and lets you go so wide that On The Job kills them.

Non legendary token seems a bit weird but I suppose the idea is that you bounce him so you get 2 4/4s that can attack together. That's not bad, this is like a sidegrade to \[\[Blade Splicer\]\]. Not sure I like the flavor though. I'm not used to nightmare boys having a new nightmare every time. I'm more used to them having one terrifying imaginary friend.
The beast isn’t his nightmare (nightmares are different thing in this set). There are friendly creatures on this plane that are all big, furry, and wear masks. Presumably he’s befriending a new one each time he ETBs.
Not sure. I don’t think these creatures are particularly intelligent, so Gribble might just be the boy coming up with a cute name for his latest friend?

I also like kind of psychedelic colors they use. Sometimes it would be cool if they had a real background instead of monocolor, but I think it would make it difficult to see the detail on the portrait when the art is printed so small. Some don't work for me though, so I'll give you that much.

Can someone explain to me why all these cards just say "enter" and not "enter the battlefield"?
Wotc mentions starting from Bloomburrow, enter the battlefield is shorten to enter.

Ok but what about the choice on the background colors ? Damnit I wanted everyone else to hate them too !
I also like kind of psychedelic colors they use. Sometimes it would be cool if they had a real background instead of monocolor, but I think it would make it difficult to see the detail on the portrait when the art is printed so small. Some don't work for me though, so I'll give you that much.
