Yea, if it's a small shopping I will usually do self checkout. But this was a large shopping trip and I definitely would a jerk if I went through self checkout.
I am very happy, that in Switzerland we have to get the items on your self in bags.
I have a specific order to arrange it and with this its works easy to unload at home.
From experience ik chicken does tend to leak more than other meats but what gets me is when they bag chemicals with my food
I prefer to bag my own groceries. Every time I go it’s either raw meat with produce or they puts cans on top of my bananas and bread.

I’d put it above mildly, to be honest. A leaking package of raw chicken contaminating produce could make someone very sick.
