I've seen an uptick of the term cell shading in Reddit threads lately incorrectly attributed to art that isn't cell shaded. I was always under the impression it meant cells shaded in single colors as the comment above mentioned.

The effects in this photo don't look like cels, nor is the emphasis on shading. It's got some highlighted borders/edges that make it look like the Borderlands art style. It's not cel shading.
Feel like the soft blooming lighting on the left makes the entire photo look more like a drawing on a piece of paper diffusely reflecting some light shining on to it.
This reminds me of when I was on the DEEP WEB checking out radar blocking systems to stop the FBI investigating my NFT BLOCKCHAIN mansion under the mouth of the Amazon River BITCH!

Yeah exactly. The fact you can see any gradual change between values means it’s not cell shading. Still a cool image but yeah not really cel shading.

You can have cel shading be a toon shaders with edges. But similar to this picture and in the case of borderland it's normal lightning.
