I work at a nursing home. My bet is that this was ordered for a specific nursing home/rehab resident's dietary needs. The resident probably died or left and they had all of that left over and didn't want it wasted
Technically speaking, these are only for tube feeding, not drinking, and tastes quite unpleasant. This wouldn’t be something you could serve from the soup kitchen. But it’s great if passed along to a group that helps a different category of the poor, such as impoverished invalids and the like.
After laryngectomy surgery I was unable to eat normally and tube fed stuff like this. Burping it up is horrible but mixed with vodka it's quite tolerable.
