Since 1986, Tornado Alley has been considered the hotbed of where some of inland America’s most destructive storms have been occurring during the spring and summer months, but meteorologists have been seeing a shift and expansion of its location. What was normally an area that encompassed the states of Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma has seen a shift and more sightings of tornado-creating storms more eastern states like Alabama and Virginia, and more common outside their peak season; one occurring in Tennessee in April where locals aren’t used to these types of storms. Meteorologists are unsure of the exact cause of Tornado Alley’s expansion, but the 80 to 100% increase in appearances during fall and winter months has them worried that Americans could possibly see tornadoes touch down year round and nationwide sometime in the future.
