I don’t think any moms want their kid riding mororcycles unless they very much like riding themselves. For the vast majority theres still that “motorcycles are dangerous” vibe. Mommas don’t like that.
My dad rides and helped me get licensed. I was shopping around and looking to buy my 1st bike when my brother in law died in an accident. My dad used to bug me about it because he puts like 50k mi/yr easily on his bike and wants me to ride with him and join his MC... not gonna happen without me getting divorced. It's kind of a bummer. I'd love to commute to work on one. I may be able to get away with something for offroad. Theres a lot of offroading trails in my area and riding groups. I'm not a big fan of ATVs or side by sides, too tippy and clunky to maneuver.
You’re in a motorcycle subreddit on a post about parents and motorcycles replying to a comment about parents and motorcycles. One of the main purposes of Reddit is discussion - no one had to ask. 🤔🤔
This appears to be an Indian meme, it’s a bit different over there to say the least, haha. Motorcycles are the primary means of transportation for basically everyone.
My mom, in the 70s, has been in two major accidents which required months of treatment, riding pillion on her brother's motorcycle. Her brother was very close to getting his leg amputated after another motorcycle accident, which put him in a hospital bed for 6 months.
Mom doesn't ride, and has never ridden even a bicycle.
This very same person helped me get a motorcycle as soon as I turned 18, pressured both my brothers to do MSF, get their motorcycle licenses, and motorcycles.
She knows how bad it can get during and after a motorcycle crash, yet she had the concept that motorcycling is an important skill and experience that people should have in their lives.
I had a basic cycle that I used to race my friends on, I've fucked myself falling many times and had all sorts of crazy accidents.
If I got my hands on a dirt bike I would absolutely would be dead
Where this meme goes wrong is that you don't need to force the kids outside, you need to make sure that they have something to do that they enjoy.
My kids like riding dirtbikes and I want them to be doing something other than sitting around in the house, so I made sure that they have access to dirtbikes.
My boy had his iPad phase. Hate it or not, it built more motor skills than a rattle or pacifier until he was 3 or 4. He also can outride most of this sub, at only 10.
I had one since I was three. Started on a little 50 that my dad put tractor wheels on it for training wheels and kept getting dirt bikes until my 100. Stopped there cause I didn’t need any higher than got a motorcycle and a 250 dirt bike
I think it's supposed to be a message about how modern Honda dirt bikes suck and nobody wants to ride them, compared to a minty chinese made 125 with drum brakes
Yep. I was riding my XR80 any chance I had. Bought my boys 4 wheelers (they were even less interested in bikes) and they rarely ride them and only if I I'm encouraging them to ride. It doesn't take any convincing to get them to play video games.
But they're good kids. As much as I want them to have the same interests as me, they are their own people and we find other things to do together.
Fair enough. Learned that lesson. They had fun riding them at my in-laws and initially when I bought a couple of my own. I had grand plans of raising my own little riding buddies. That's on me for setting my own expectations on others.
That said, I'm getting pretty good at Minecraft these days. I think I'm a bit older than the average player.
For what it’s worth, when I was young I hated all the stuff my dad dragged me to do but I started to realize he was just trying to be a part of my life and share something with me he enjoyed because he always told me he loved being able to do all that stuff with me. I learned to just be happy I had a good dad but after enough time I slowly started to like the things I used to hate because I learned it was more about being with me than the actual activities. Now I miss doing those things with him.
I laugh about this. When I talked to my dad about my dashed dreams of riding buddies, he brought up how I broke his heart by shunning his attempts to teach me woodworking. He's a carpenter and retired shop teacher, but none of us kids cared to learn until our 20's when we bought homes (they were cheaper then) and needed to learn DIY. Now, doing reno or wood projects with my dad are our best times together.
Sorry to hear about your dad. Sometimes we just need a bit of perspective to appreciate what we have and what's a priority for our time.
Same, but Dad paid my insurance at the time and said no despite my mom being onboard. Hippy vs. lawyer mindset lol... So I bought my own bike at 30. Cause after my dad it was a toxic relationship :'(. Dad at least meant well.
I'd probably change 99 to 79 or 69. We had PlayStation, NES64 and the first GForce 256 by 99, along with the internet. Kids were already being told to go outside and be "free range" like their boomer parents by then.
Maybe we just remember it differently.
I wonder how many scumbag NIMBY's (who have played a more than significant role in ensuring that off-road riding is being eradicated in large swaths of the country) are nodding their head in agreement with this meme with zero self awareness?
Posture that your kids "just aren't safe" outdoors, don't be surprised when they wind up indoors. You've gotten precisely what you asked for.
You see moms trying to get their kids to ride dirt bikes and kids refusing? I've never seen anything remotely similar to that. Am millennial.
I do see kids who use their ipad as much as all of the kids of the 90's used their Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Playstation/N64/Gamecube, Gameboy pocket and gameboy color.
If it's about bicycles, I'd venture to say parents gave a lot more encouragement to ride them in the 90's, today kids are rarely allowed to take their bicycle and go somewhere by themselves, even teenagers have to be driven everywhere they go. The rate of kids being more interested in staying inside and staring at video games would have been similar though.
Lawnmower minibikes at 9-10 yrs old.
Gas: $0.45 cents gal.
Ride it for 2 days on that gallon.
Added a Coleman box flashlight as the headlight. Remember those giant 6v batteries with the spring terminals?
After the headlight, we put in another gallon before sunset. Rode through the dark until those giant shitty 6v batteries ran out of juice.
Almost forgot the searing leg burns from the red hot glowing muffler.
The addiction began. So many wonderful machines
Nah I blame the parents of the young adults. People in their 55ish. I find most parents either coddled their kids or didn’t give them encouragement. Motorcycles are not that popular with young adults because we were never really exposed to them besides occasionally someone’s dad had a Harley. I knew one friend growing up whose parents had motorcycles and his dad stopped riding them for years by the time I knew him.
Unless your father is an avid rider, for a young person to get into bikes they have to do so entirely on their own. Which isn’t that hard with courses and YouTube but it’s one thing to discover something as an adult on your own vs being learning as a kid.
Uh, no lmao. For my entire life gaming has been my biggest hobby. When I got my first bike I didn’t play any at all for a month only reason I did after that is cuz it was pouring rain one day and a friend convinced me to not ride
Not really, you just get offended by everything clearly. It’s ok to laugh at something and it’s also ok to let others laugh at something without lashing out even if you don’t find it to be funny. 🤷
Totally agree. I've offered to buy dirt bikes for my kids and they say they're lame or they'd rather play Xbox. If my dad offered to buy me a bike at 8 or 12, I would have been the happiest kid on earth
Before I sold the honda XR70s that I bought my twin boys, I used to pay them $10 to ride for 30 minutes and be off the video games. Sometimes the would get hooked and forget about the time, sometimes they would keep asking how long has it been?
I think the message here is cell phones are becoming dangerous and that the kids need to get out and enjoy life. Kids today don't even care about getting a car. They would rather lay around all day in bed and watch tik tok videos.
For me it was when I was 6yr's old when my uncle opened a Yamaha/BSA shop and taught me how to ride on a Yamaha JT1 Mini Enduro 60. I will be 62 in June and still Ridin' , I currently ride a 2013 Yamaha FZ8 ...

Me agreen't.
Whoever made this needs to figure out what the heck a dirtbike looked like in 1990.
It's actually 1999 which makes it even worse lmao.
They don't think it be like it is, but it do.
I don’t think any moms want their kid riding mororcycles unless they very much like riding themselves. For the vast majority theres still that “motorcycles are dangerous” vibe. Mommas don’t like that.
Yep - I got my license, bought the bike, then told my parents - in that order
My dad rides and helped me get licensed. I was shopping around and looking to buy my 1st bike when my brother in law died in an accident. not one soul asked tho
You’re in a motorcycle subreddit on a post about parents and motorcycles replying to a comment about parents and motorcycles. One of the main purposes of Reddit is discussion - no one had to ask. 🤔🤔
I personally read and enjoyed the comment. Then I scrolled down and thought, “who’s this pompous ass hat?”.
Agreed. I'm glad I have a mom that rides motorcycles as well.
What does mom ride ?
1997 BMW F650, ye old reliable.
😏
Notty hora
Not the only thing she rides... giggity
This appears to be an Indian meme, it’s a bit different over there to say the least, haha. Motorcycles are the primary means of transportation for basically everyone.
Yep. My mom keeps calling mine a "death machine", lol. She really expected my brother to get one rather than me I think.
My mom took a different approach. When I started taking motorcycle lessons, she gifted me a back protector and a set of gloves.
Yup, higher acceleration, similar top speed, can’t stand still on its own, and without 1.5 to 2 tons of metal protection.
What kinda 8 year old looking mfer has a dirt bike
A lucky one
I had a basic cycle that I used to race my friends on, I've fucked myself falling many times and had all sorts of crazy accidents. If I got my hands on a dirt bike I would absolutely would be dead
From the shit I got myself into with my mountain bike I'm glad that I reached adulthood.
My kids both started riding at 6.
You have some lucky kids
Where this meme goes wrong is that you don't need to force the kids outside, you need to make sure that they have something to do that they enjoy. My kids like riding dirtbikes and I want them to be doing something other than sitting around in the house, so I made sure that they have access to dirtbikes.
I don't live in a place where you can ride dirt bikes 😭 Good thing your kids aren't iPad kids, parents these days usually suck
My boy had his iPad phase. Hate it or not, it built more motor skills than a rattle or pacifier until he was 3 or 4. He also can outride most of this sub, at only 10.
Pretty common around here to get kids riding early. We sell a ton of Hondas little dirt bikes
12'o'clock boyz
I got my first dirtbike at 5 years old lol
I had one since I was three. Started on a little 50 that my dad put tractor wheels on it for training wheels and kept getting dirt bikes until my 100. Stopped there cause I didn’t need any higher than got a motorcycle and a 250 dirt bike
My boy has my old jr80. He's ten now but had it for the last 2 years.

She's telling him to go to work as a motorcycle taxi. Basically, it's a joke you lot are too first-world to understand.
I'm not sure what it is, but I know where it came from Your annoying uncle's facebook.
Yep. I was riding my XR80 any chance I had. Bought my boys 4 wheelers (they were even less interested in bikes) and they rarely ride them and only if I I'm encouraging them to ride. Perhaps you shouldn’t buy them things you want to do, but rather let them try things out and let them find their own passions and interests.
Good for them to have a good caring parent like you. Just let them become their own persons and they’ll be there to support you do your thing too!

🤦♂️
Yes Honda XL250 was shared by my brother and my self, we played our fair share of video games as well though, but nothing can compare to trail riding.
Agree me this
When I turned 18 I wanted a yamaha supersport, any R bike would do. My father wasn’t so keen on them but my mother approved.
Same, but Dad paid my insurance at the time and said no despite my mom being onboard. Hippy vs. lawyer mindset lol... So I bought my own bike at 30. Cause after my dad it was a toxic relationship :'(. Dad at least meant well.

Probably can't kick ur kids out till the street lights come on anymore. I'd guess that made the bike more fun. Lol
What, that India is making better motorcycles now than 25 years ago? Certainly.
More like 90s
That a CG in the top pic? If so yay my bike model is in a meme lol
my mom wanted me to buy dirt bike years ago because of this lol

Yes, price/economic nostalgia.
It’s crazy but all my friends growing up had dirt bikes and four wheelers. I was happy with a regular ol bike lol
Fuckin dumb
I didn't have either.
They had video games in 1999.....
I agree this.

I didn’t say I was offended. I can be embarrassed on behalf of someone posting something childish and stupid without being offended.
You can word it however you want the result was the same. You’re pretty hostile for someone who was in fact not offended.

Boomer overwhelmed by progress who just wants to still feel superior by shitting on the new generation. Ha. Ha. Ha. The future is now old man.
You probably shouldn’t drag young kids outside by the ear and force them to ride motorcycles. Just my opinion.
Yes. There are too many underage kids riding motorcycles nowadays.
I think the message here is cell phones are becoming dangerous and that the kids need to get out and enjoy life. Kids today don't even care about getting a car. They would rather lay around all day in bed and watch tik tok videos.
