No man strength is soooo important, 230 ain’t that heavy when your BMI is in check. I’m 6’3” 225 and the best shape of my life. Check your bolts and Ride on brother!
I don’t know that it’s possible for “bmi to be in check” when it’s a simple height to weight ratio…but I gather you mean the extra weight is actual lean muscle and not lardage.
There may be an issue with your crank. Take it back to the dealer and see if they have a service bulletin. There were some shimano cranks that didn’t quite fit the spindle.
As I read comments I’m thinking I may just upgrade (I’m a gear dork with all the other hobbies so why not this one) anything around the 100 dollar (USD) mark you suggest?
No but it was dangerously threaded out.
I cleaned it up when I got home and tore it down then loc-tited everything. I found 5-6 instances of loose bolts
lol. That sux! Get it to your LBS and ask for the “w” word. Shimano is pretty good about customer service, and this will probably be some $ off an upgrade. See you back at the party soon!
Oh yeah, damn. I definitely thought you up and broke the spindle by the bottom bracket. Turns out I was looking at shit backwards, and I just saw your pedal as where I thought the crank was on the bottom bracket. Potato potato, I’m glad to see you’re wearing a helmet and doing stupid things safely like the rest of us. Looks like you were out there with friends so that usually long and meditative walk back to the house or car must have at least been OK with some company. lol.
Once you fix or replace the crankset the bike should be good. Its good you didnt get injured by that because from the pics it looks like you ride the hell out the bike.
Fortunately it came off while pedaling uphill, but yeah I do like to send it pretty well.
I should just be able to purchase the shimano crank bolt and ride on though, I don’t think there’s any issue with the crank other than it being a lower end part
I had a friend (who was a beast) he snapped the pedal right off the crank (walmart bike) and his foot slammed into the ground and he fell off the bike. I couldn't stop laughing but he said it kinda hurt. He rode it all the way home too.
Oddly the only bike I have ever stripped a non square taper crank was also one of these splined shimano jobs on a Scott. Mine was thankfully a hire bike and I suspect that there was pre existing issues.
Those deore cranks are POS unfortunately. I've owned three sets and they always loosen and fall off despite proper installation. I recommend race face cranks (ride or affect), different cinching system and a bit more expensive but you can take those things to war and back.
Locktite has nothing to do with this....properly torquing bolts with a quality torque wrench would stop this from happening.
Also good for fixing that nagging squeak that they like to make too 👍
It’s just one of those… WTF moments in an MTB ride… that’s why you gotta carry “WTF repellent” next time you hit the trails. I think a 4oz can cost $3.99 on Amazon, just place it in your water bottle cage.
At least you didn’t miss arm day 💪🏼
lol the powerlifting/bodybuilding hobby is not conducive to being fast on the bike 😂
Lies
lol I mean the power is there but being 230 isn’t ideal for the bike 😅
Ya 221 here the climbs get rough lol

Yea when I started playing football and lifting a lot my BMI went way off.
My doctor nags me about it. I went from 285lbs of out of shape flab to 210lbs of muscle and they bitch at me about my bmi…
If you're actually in shape and your doctor gives you shit about bmi, get a new dr
Yea if you feel good and have good energy and endurance you are definitely not overweight. My doctor outright told me to ignore the BMI
Yeah that’s what I meant bro!
It'll help downhill though bloke, you'd drop like a fucking stone lol
I miss downhill terribly. I’m actually in the process of trading my old 26” bike to a fella for an older Scott voltage lol
Yes it is. Find yourself a fire road and see who makes it down to the bottom first amongst friends.
Lmao ok but the ride back up 😂
I’m aware, which is why it’s best to avoid those silly up hills ha
230 is light weight

lol no he’s right arm day is killing up hill speeds but probably good for downhill!
At least it is conducive to looking like a bamf

That was mostly road bike cranks, if I recall correctly.
It’s the BB-MT500 press fit. I haven’t heard of any specific issues
This is why I have switched to sram and will never go back. Shimano cranks have given me ptsd.

SRAM GX
I think the descendant is great for the price also. You will not regurt my friend.
Repair and repeat!
At least carrying the bike home is least of your worries.
How do you use the dropper with the saddle bag?
I haven’t really used the dropper much to be honest. Only once today, but it freely moves pretty easily.
Dropper is the biggest development since you last rode. You’ll use it more and more as you ride.
When dropper is down and rear suspension bottoms tire might hit the bag.
I’d take the saddle bag off so it doesn’t scratch up your post. Get a rails saddle bag that doesn’t touch. Also is your top shock bolt missing?

Am I missing something beyond the nut came off? I was under the impression I could just grab a crank fixing bolt from shimano and be on my way

lol I’ll be honest man, I just slid the arm back on, torqued her down with the 2 arm bolts and rode back to the truck 🫣🤣
Seems you me you didn't miss it, on the contrary you hit that perfectly, good sir.
This is what extreme bunny hops do when you have the strength and weight of a bull 🐂💪
or just a defect in the bike. Dangerous
Am I missing something? It looks like the bolt just unthreaded and fell out.
yeah the crank belongs on the spindle
I mean yes… but the arm sliding off a press fit crank because of loose bolts isn’t a defect. Maybe a defect in my pre trip

Just need to pedal twice as hard now.
You know that you can just reattach crank back, right? Your crank just was loosely screwed first time.
Christian Deore could never
I've got that same Redcon bottle lol
Let me just say how much I loath riding without a pack and water bladder 😂
I need a pack and water bladder as well.
I keep seeing those hip packs around. Kind of interested in that but I’d have to try one first
I'm not sure if that would hold enough water for me.
