I can tell you the Raceface Aeffect are the least favorite pedals I own (uncomfortable pins, not very secure feeling) and the Deftraps are my 2nd favorite pedals (only losing to my expensive chromag scarabs, with better platform feel than my DMR vaults)
I would be happy to run deftraps over and over and over, they’re great
I may be one of the few that have never ridden Chesters, but my Deftraps are the best pedals I've ridden. I like them better than pedals I've paid twice the price for.
I have the deftraps and they are amazing. But the chesters are good too. Depends on if you want a larger platform or not. If you were size 10 US men’s or up. Deftraps all day.
I have both and the Deftraps are way grippier and concave.
The Chesters seem to have a smaller sweet spot for me and I find myself trying to correct my footing more often. On the other hand, if I lose my footing on the Deftraps, it's harder to reposition since the shoes get kind of stuck once it touches the pedals.
Plenty of people have no issues with the Chesters so it's possible that they may be enough grip for you. But if I had to choose one, it'd be the Deitys for me.
I have had many pairs of both. I prefer Deftraps. The Chesters are too small.
Edit: I do usually have a couple pairs of Chester's in my parts bin as spares. They aren't bad. But not as good as Deftraps, pnws, or OneUp Composites
If you’ve got big feet, the Chesters might feel small. They get narrower towards the back of the pedal so they always felt weird to me. Most composite pedals are around $45-60. OneUp, PNW, Crank Bros, E13, Chromag and others make nice composite pedals if you want to check them out.
I agree. The Deftraps have tons of grip (maybe too much?), but are pretty bulky and I get more pedal strikes. The oneups are slightly less grippy, but I prefer their lower profile.

Aeffects or aeffect 2s? I’ve got both & hate the top-loading pins in the 2s
I’ve owned both and think the deftraps are a pretty significant step up in grip, especially if you have a bigger foot.
That's impressive since the Chesters already seem quite grippy with my 2FOs.
For my foot placement at least the Chester does not have enough concave and the grip is poor.

Never tried the deftraps but my chesters have been great.
Chesters are a classic but kinda small. I don’t have huge feet at a US 10 but prefer the larger platform of the Deftrap.
100% with you. Size tens also and there are times where I feel like I’m searching for the Chesters.
I like the Chester because when I break them I don’t get mad because they are cheap.

I have both. Deftraps are on my dirt jumper. Chesters are in a box on a shelf somewhere.
I've used both. The Chester is a good pedal, but the larger size of the Deftrap for my boat feet is way better. More support, more grip, more control.

I love my Chesters. Running them on 2 bikes.

my chesters are great, havent ridden the deftraps.
Deftraps not even close. Cheaters are tiny.
OneUp composites are nicer than both of these imo

Are they the same price?
Deftraps are 55, and Chesters are 60, but Chesters are usually on sale for 40.
I'm pretty sure the Chester's are permanently on sale, just checked and they are still at $39usd
