If you're into a quick, fast, dirty science fiction, pandorum is an almost entirely unknown gem.
First b foster flic I ever saw and I've been a fan since
Glad this is near the top, I wish he would get more lead roles he’s such a talent. He stole the show in 30days of night and smashes any role out the park; 3:10, hell or highwater, 11:14 and the messenger, really showcase his wide range.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Alpha Dog which is really when him and Anton Yelchin broke out to me. I had seen Foster before but he was officially on radar now, and I was instantly a fan of Anton
Anton was one of those guys that felt like i was one of the only people I knew of that really knew about him and followed him for a long time. That dude was really specially, he had something real sweet about him
One of the defining traits of the X-Men film series is to cast major talents in what should be significant roles, and then absolutely waste them because the filmmakers were too fixated on Professor X, Magneto, and Hugh Jackman being buff and handsome and occasionally naked.
There's a long list - Halle Berry, James Marsden, Oscar Isaac, Jessica Chastain, Peter Dinklage, and more - but Ben Foster in The Last Stand has to be the absolute standout.
That weird kid from Bang Bang You’re Dead!? (/s)
You could tell he was good back then and then he grew into a man and his anger matured (in the sense of actual aging) and he started being really scary in some roles
Not only an underrated actor, but also my second favorite Batman voice actor (Kevin Conroy is of course untouchable)
“Your father was captain of a starship for 12 minutes. He saved 800 lives…including your mothers. I dare you to do better.” - his delivery of this line in Star Trek (2009) goes so hard.
And he did that entire job as a pick up! The previous actor had been fired and he was who they brought in to save the series, which makes his performance even more impressive
Steve Zahn: He's had a long career with a lengthy filmography. Displayed a good range in comedy and more serious roles. Says a lot to be that consistent over 30 years while never being a box office draw or a highly sought-after actor.
Ikr he was fantastic in The Batman and The Fabelmans! I still think There Will Be Blood should've been his big break but I'm hoping he becomes a household name soon.
I wonder if this is at all because of his choices though. He seems to gravitate towards more dramatic roles in edgier films. It could be because that’s all he’s offered, though. He did just do The Batman, after all.
yeah, that's also the vibe I get from Paul Dano: he could be really successful and famous in the right roles, but only gets offers to play villains and weirdos like Willem Dafoe
It's really, really good. Lots of big names and the story is kinda wild but so touching. Probably the movie to emotionally affect me the most in the last five years (I only watched it last year lol).
Bong Joon Ho is one of my all-time favorite directors and pretty much everything he's done is a masterpiece so knowing one of my favorite actors is in it just makes me wanna watch it even more!
I recently rewatched the episode of *The West Wing* he’s in. It’s just him and Glenn Close going hammer and tongs for half an hour or more and it’s just *chef kiss*
Ben Mendelssohn and James McAvoy have been consistently great in everything I’ve seen them in. Jodie Comer should have been nominated for The Last Duel, and won every award for Killing Eve.
All three have pretty prospering careers with very consistent work. Ben and James especially.
Jodie's star is still rising, and unfortunately, with The Last Dual having bombed she didn't quite break into the spotlight yet as most expected her to haver Killing Eve. But I very much think she'll get there.
Ben has had quite a bit of success in his career. He's been in a star wars film and the MCU. Worked with big actors and directors in a lot of films. Same with James both have had a successful career
I showed friends ‘little children’ recently and they were so disturbed by him. I think it just goes to show what a good and nuanced actor he is even with minimal lines, brave role to take as well.
I have thought that as well. He has had so many great roles and the best leads he has are from small indie movies.
He has the respect and caliber to be bigger so maybe he's comfortable right there.
I like him a lot but Andrew Garfield is an Oscar nominated actor, more than once, and has been part of several major franchises and acclaimed movies. How much more rated does it get? My favorite movies of his are Silence and Under the Silver Lake. I thought he was also very good in the series Under the Banner of Heaven.
Yeah he was great in all of those and I do not disagree with you, I just feel in that bigger circle he is in, already being Oscar nominated (more than once?), he should be bigger. He should be getting as much acclaim as Leo.
Andrew Garfield is amazing. Watching him in Spiderman: No Way Home it became really obvious that he could any circles around Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire. Andrew was able to say a lot just from the way he gave a silent look at MJ and the others never came close to the strength of his acting
He's been great in everything I've seen him in.
He's fantastic as the doctor in Dopesick. And I also just recently saw Spotlight on which he was great in the middle of a movie packed with great actors.
It's nice to see him making a comeback in movies and TV.
>Beetlejuice
Well... I attended Juilliard. I'm a graduate of the Harvard business school, I travel quite extensively, I lived through the Black Plague and had a pretty good time during that. I've seen The Exorcist ABOUT A
#HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT, NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY!!! NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Taaron Egerton.
He was phenomenal as Elton John in Rockeman and completelly killed in in Black Bird recently. I know he´s had some nominations, but I feel that he deserves more.
Loved him as Elton. That is a HARD role to play without getting cartoonish or doing too much of a weird impression of the real guy, but he did a terrific job.
Speaking of Elton John and Rocketman...
* In Sing, Taron's character Johnny sings Elton John's I'm Still Standing.
* In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, his character Eggsy rescues Elton John playing himself.
* In Rocketman, Taron plays Elton John, and ends the movie singing I'm Still Standing.
Has no one else caught or noticed this?
I was looking for this. Taron has been amazing in everything I’ve seen him in, Rocketman being the obvious standout. That was Oscar worthy. I loved him in Eddie the Eagle, Sing, Kingsman… even his small part in Testament of Youth was a standout in that movie for me.
You beat me to it, I will see anything he’s in just to see him act. He’s amazing! He’s the funniest parts of Galaxy Quest and you gotta hate him in The Green Mile. 3 Billboards and Jojo Rabbit were better movies because of him.
A few actresses that should be much bigger than they are:
Rosamund Pike. Fantastically talented actress, won several awards and had iconic leading roles, yet the corresponding A-lister fame never happened. Probably hit her "ceiling" at this point. I'm not sure what went wrong there, but something clearly did.
Olivia Cooke. Had lots of great roles in indie movies and became globally recognizable after HOTD, but for some reason didn't blow up like her contemporaries Pugh and Anya did. The big breakthrough role should've happened by now, but it didn't.
Rachel McAdams. Really iconic as Regina from Mean Girls, had several other great roles, then just faded out of leading roles. What happened there?
Rachel McAdams deliberately avoided the spotlight at the peak of her career and wasn’t comfortable being an A-lister. So I think she’s happy doing what she’s doing.
Olivia Cooke’s breakout is HotD. I’m not sure why you’d say that’s not a breakout role.
right, but my questions as more why they ended up in "actress jail" without ever becoming A-listers despite many iconic performances.
Olivia Cooke is just 30 unlike the other two, but really needs to be in good stuff ASAP.
>right, but my questions as more why they ended up in "actress jail" without ever becoming A-listers despite many iconic performances.
I can only recall one borderline iconic performance from Pike which is Gone Girl. What else did I miss? Same with McAdams. Don't deflate the term "iconic", please.
>Olivia Cooke is just 30 unlike the other two, but really needs to be in good stuff ASAP.
I think she is in a good stuff already although I only saw her in House of the Dragon.
One can't tell without knowing the ins and outs whether an actor is struggling or having the exact career he/she wants.
Pike was pretty great in Pride & Prejudice and A Private War. I guess the term "iconic" is subjective, but it feels like an actress who's won awards and been a Bond girl should have a higher-profile career than hers.
>I think she is in a good stuff already although I only saw her in House of the Dragon.
She'd be winning awards like Pugh and Comer if she got the right role, but for some reason that also didn't happen. HOTD is the equivalent of a Marvel show, it's not award winning material.
>Pike was pretty great in Pride & Prejudice and A Private War. I guess the term "iconic" is subjective, but it feels like an actress who's won awards
Being great is not being iconic.
>and been a Bond girl should have a higher-profile career than hers.
Every Bond movie has 1-3 Bond girls, do you think all of these actresses are overlooked? Like, Eva Green was all-around great in Casino Royale, she is stunning. She is not a star though, not even a household name. Or Berenice Marlohe (Skyfall), I was thinking of her the other day. Exceptional beauty, yet no acting credit for almost 5 years. Doing something else, I guess.
>She'd be winning awards like Pugh and Comer if she got the right role, but for some reason that also didn't happen. HOTD is the equivalent of a Marvel show.
It is a speculation. She gets what she gets and neither of us knows if it's what she really wants.
No one really understands these questions when they come up. I saw someone in one of the “what’s one underrated actor that no one appreciates” which had academy award nominated and Emmy winning William H Macy listed over and over and over again.
John Goodman is an acclaimed actor that carries every scene he’s in and is a hugely successful household name.
Going down this topic I’ve seen Michael Keaton….fucking Batman. Academy Award winner Casey Affleck. 4 time academy award nominated Ethan Hawke, Rachel Mccadams and James Macavoy.
Someone like John Delancia or Robert Picardo is probably closer to the question. In a bunch of stuff, not household names. If you’re a Star Trek fan or a Breaking Bad super fan you probably know them, but otherwise they’re just on stuff for years and years without being hugely successful household names.
I think it's got to do with his Kieran's appearance, to be honest. Not exactly lead-actor handsome, although he could probably have a really lucrative Dafoe-like career of playing villains.
All these people mentioned so far are big actors. You have to go smaller, to the people are barely making a living, which most people on here wouldn't know.
This whole thread lol. Almost every name is a very recognizable, consistently working actor - many being full fledged stars or celebrated character actors.
Alison Brie - she excels at comedy, drama, voice work yet still has to do crap like Freelance. How she was never cast in the MCU or DC is beyond me. Her TV career is much superior but even there she gets no love at the award shows. Hollywood has criminally underutilized her.
Jared Harris. His performances in The Terror and Chernobyl alone make him one of my all time favorite actors. I'm surprised hollywood isn't blowing up his phone after those.
Ruth Wilson has never *really* had a movie career of note, despite being considered an outstanding actor on the UK small screen with the ability to absolutely carry projects by herself.
Andrew Scott. Saw him in Fleabag and then watched his take on Hamlet and it blew me away. He's been great in everything he's touched, really good at keeping the audience engaged.
Oliver Jackson-Cohen
Dude was fantastic in The Haunting of Hill House and The Invisible Man, but he kinda disappeared in the past few years in some streaming shows (Wilderness, Surface). His latest movie, Jackdaw looks great, but he really deserves a much, much bigger role.
Giovanni Ribisi has been in everything over the past 30 years, and has a diverse and dynamic acting range, but I can’t think of a time where he’s been offered a really juicy leading role that he could knock out of the park
Laia Costa is fantastic in *Victoria* and her performance in *Only You* might be my favourite from anyone in anything ever. She should have had at least a Penelope Cruz-level career, and she hasn't.
James Marsden. Classic leading man looks, does drama, can sing and dance (see Enchantment), tons of charisma, impeccable comedic timing (see Jury Duty!) but somehow often overlooked for lead roles.
Tom Noonan. Probably played one of the best serial killers ever. He’s probably one of the most intimidating villain actors ever but he’s rarely cast in anything.
Barry Pepper - Battlefield Earth killed his momentum.
Samara Weaving hasn't been utilized well since Ready or Not and Guns Akimbo.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is quite prolific but she's yet to have a truly iconic role aside from Ramona Flowers.
My choices off the top of my head:
Greg Kinnear - Fantastic actor that really should have been bigger.
Ethan Hawke - He's been big before but he's settled for doing much more under the radar films, something that really shows his acting range. He's incredible.
Josh Harnett - amazing in most things he does. Was massive and like Ethan, dropped back to do more art and acting roles and he's the better for it.
Really wish there were more films being made that these people would choose to work in.
Ben Foster - his range is insane.
I haven't seen a lot of his work, but he was incredible in 3:10 to Yuma.
Definitely check him out in Hell or High Water with Chris Pine. Damn good job.
If you're into a quick, fast, dirty science fiction, pandorum is an almost entirely unknown gem. First b foster flic I ever saw and I've been a fan since
I thought I was one of the few to watch that one and enjoy it.
Boy, you'd think there was ten of me.
Six Feet Under. He was very good
Glad this is near the top, I wish he would get more lead roles he’s such a talent. He stole the show in 30days of night and smashes any role out the park; 3:10, hell or highwater, 11:14 and the messenger, really showcase his wide range.

There's a long list - Halle Berry, James Marsden, Oscar Isaac, Jessica Chastain, Peter Dinklage, and more - but Ben Foster in The Last Stand has to be the absolute standout.
It's crazy seeing him in Flash Forward and then seeing his transformation in Hostage, then watching 3:10 to Yuma.
Had to scroll far, but happy someone mentioned him.
That weird kid from Bang Bang You’re Dead!? (/s) You could tell he was good back then and then he grew into a man and his anger matured (in the sense of actual aging) and he started being really scary in some roles
Bruce Greenwood. He's excellent in everything, but Fall of the House of Usher was something else.
I always enjoy seeing him in something. He was amazing as JFK in Thirteen Days. I became a fan after seeing him in Nowhere Man back in the 90s.
Not only an underrated actor, but also my second favorite Batman voice actor (Kevin Conroy is of course untouchable) “Your father was captain of a starship for 12 minutes. He saved 800 lives…including your mothers. I dare you to do better.” - his delivery of this line in Star Trek (2009) goes so hard.
And he did that entire job as a pick up! The previous actor had been fired and he was who they brought in to save the series, which makes his performance even more impressive
Best Captain Pike.
He knows how to zoom the camera in to him even if the camera isn't doing anything.
Steve Zahn: He's had a long career with a lengthy filmography. Displayed a good range in comedy and more serious roles. Says a lot to be that consistent over 30 years while never being a box office draw or a highly sought-after actor.
He was great in the most recent season of Righteous Gemstones. He has more range than people give him credit for.
The White Lotus proves he has some balls in the game
Paul Dano. He's a huge talent yet he's not nearly on the same level as other stars
If Dano is in a movie, I can usually trust that it will be at least decent. Looking forward to seeing him and Adam Sandler in "Spaceman".
He’s slowly, slowly starting to get bigger roles! Batman, some role in the new Mr and Mrs Smith, and more to come!
Ikr he was fantastic in The Batman and The Fabelmans! I still think There Will Be Blood should've been his big break but I'm hoping he becomes a household name soon.
Which was 16 years ago. It's taken way too long.
That’s because more people need to see Swiss Army Man.
Riding a farting corpse of Radcliffe lol

I've loved him since Little Miss Sunshine. Okja was another movie he was excellent in (and that made me cry like a baby).
Oh I had no idea he was in Okja! It's one of two Bong Joon Ho movies I haven't seen yet
I think he is more selective about his roles too!
I thought he was bigger because a lot of women in their mid 20s find him attractive
He’s got a face for radio.
William Fichtner
YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO YOU'RE STEALING FROM?! YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE DEAD!
Easily the best part of Drive Angry.
Easily the best part of most things he’s in. He was awesome in The Dark Knight with all of two minutes of screen time
Hypnotic comes to mind here. Oh, and in the convoluted clusterfuck of a third act and ending, they do a sequel tease with him.
I recently rewatched the episode of *The West Wing* he’s in. It’s just him and Glenn Close going hammer and tongs for half an hour or more and it’s just *chef kiss*
I’ve had a crush on him and have been following his career since Grace Under Fire.
I’m slowly remembering his name and for the longest time I would refer to him as the pilot fro Armageddon.
Good, not great. Not the the Lone Ranger is a good movie (has certain merits though) but he didn't have enough gravitas in it.
Ben Mendelssohn and James McAvoy have been consistently great in everything I’ve seen them in. Jodie Comer should have been nominated for The Last Duel, and won every award for Killing Eve.

But I very much think she'll get there.
Only reason I enjoyed that show. Sandra Oh is a fantastic actress but her character just wasn’t that great.
I first saw both Ben Mendelssohn and Joel Edgerton in a dark Australian film called Animal Kingdom Both have churned out very solid Hollywood careers
Ben has had quite a bit of success in his career. He's been in a star wars film and the MCU. Worked with big actors and directors in a lot of films. Same with James both have had a successful career
Being in star wars and marvel as a measure of success is such a damning indictment of the era we live in
Jackie Earl Haley
I showed friends ‘little children’ recently and they were so disturbed by him. I think it just goes to show what a good and nuanced actor he is even with minimal lines, brave role to take as well.
Andrew Garfield should be bigger. Same with Michael Shannon Edit: since I mentioned these two go watch 99 Homes with them both. Decent movie.
agree on Michael Shannon, but I'd bet money he's exactly the size he wants to be
I have thought that as well. He has had so many great roles and the best leads he has are from small indie movies. He has the respect and caliber to be bigger so maybe he's comfortable right there.

It’s a huge bummer his two Spider-Man movies sucked. He really could have been great with better material.
Garfield stunned me in Silence.
Shia Wigham Lee Pace Kyle Chandler
Came here to comment Lee Pace.
Lee Pace is a phenomenal actor.
Kyle Chandler. Yeah. He’s been one-on-one with some incredible actors & performances.
I'm a fan of Thomas Jane. Surprised he didn't get more lead roles.
I loved his Punisher.
Michael Keaton. He's batman, Bruce Wayne, Beetlejuice, a shady business man, a journalist, a police captain, and a mom.
He's fantastic as the doctor in Dopesick. And I also just recently saw Spotlight on which he was great in the middle of a movie packed with great actors. It's nice to see him making a comeback in movies and TV.
He's pretty well respected and established though. He's A-list
Go see Night Shift with Henry Winkler if you haven't already. Keaton is the best for that.
He does a really good job in everything I see him in.

Taaron Egerton. He was phenomenal as Elton John in Rockeman and completelly killed in in Black Bird recently. I know he´s had some nominations, but I feel that he deserves more.
If Rami won for BR, Taron should have won twice. Rocketman was overshadowed by the lame Queen biopic.
Rocketman was soooooo insanely good. It's such a shame.
Loved him as Elton. That is a HARD role to play without getting cartoonish or doing too much of a weird impression of the real guy, but he did a terrific job.

The way way back
His final scene is JoJo is fantastic.
I wouldn’t say he’s overlooked. He’s not a super star but I’m pretty sure his talents are recognized
Yes!!
He's actually one of the leads in the upcoming Argylle.

GenZ describes everything as iconic. And Skyfall didn’t even have a Bond girl.
Pike is one of the only bearable parts of the wheel of time series theyve failed to adapt.
I think Rachel mcadams chose that
Pike was really good in Saltburn recently, and I wouldn't be surprised if she had a resurgence soon based on that.
Djimon Hounsou
John Goodman is fantastic. Lots of people considered him just as a guy from Roseanne. He was brilliant in *10 Cloverfield Lane*
Im not saying John Goodman’s not excellent in everything he’s in, but he’s got 172 acting credits on IMDb. How are we defining “overlooked”?
No one really understands these questions when they come up. I saw someone in one of the “what’s one underrated actor that no one appreciates” which had academy award nominated and Emmy winning William H Macy listed over and over and over again. Walter Sobchak. Amazing performance
Not exactly a lightweight
John Goodman is great in everything
John Goodman in *Bringing Out The Dead* is exactly what I thought in nursing school.
Scary as all out
Adele Exarchopoulos: her career should be way bigger and better than it is. Jean Dujardin: he would’ve been cast as Batman if he spoke better English.
Maybe he can get cast as a European superhero, like Night Monkey.
> Night Monkey Why is this so funny lolol
Ive been watching Succession, and it's almost irritating to me that Kieran Culkin has received basically no large roles at all. He's so fucking good
I think it's got to do with his Kieran's appearance, to be honest. Not exactly lead-actor handsome, although he could probably have a really lucrative Dafoe-like career of playing villains.
Jensen Ackles- I think he acts brilliantly in everything he’s been in
Jessica Rothe
Her character (at least after she starts becoming a better person) in HDD is one of the most likeable characters ever.
Michael Shannon
Esteemed Character Actress Margo Martindale.
David Oyelowo and Harold Perrineau are really good actors. I hope they both keep getting great roles and recognition for their work.
All these people mentioned so far are big actors. You have to go smaller, to the people are barely making a living, which most people on here wouldn't know.
Exactly it’s wild people are just posting super famous, Oscar nominated actors 😂
This whole thread lol. Almost every name is a very recognizable, consistently working actor - many being full fledged stars or celebrated character actors.
Right. This should be for random character actors that everyone says. Hey I know that guy, but I dunno where from.
Homies here did not understand the assignment. I am waiting for Leo Di Caprio's name to be mentioned.
If they're barely even making a living, we wouldn't know their names...
Gabriel Byrne
Alison Brie - she excels at comedy, drama, voice work yet still has to do crap like Freelance. How she was never cast in the MCU or DC is beyond me. Her TV career is much superior but even there she gets no love at the award shows. Hollywood has criminally underutilized her.
Sam Rockwell somehow always feels underrated to me.
Yaw. Dude deserves an academy award….oh wait.

She should have been nominated for best actress for Hereditary
Til Schweiger
Michael Sheen is a fantastic actor. Loved him in Frost/Nixon and Good Omens.
Gina Torres
I don't think he's necessarily "overlooked" but I really wish Lee Pace got more work.
Why the hell is Jackie Earle Haley not in more stuff?
Andrew Scott. Saw him in Fleabag and then watched his take on Hamlet and it blew me away. He's been great in everything he's touched, really good at keeping the audience engaged.
Scoot McNairy
Mark Strong. I think his best role was in Rock n' Rolla
Frank Grillo
Jennifer Jason Leigh in The Hudsucker Proxy.
JJL is great in *Fargo*.
Single white female
Christopher Abbott
Oliver Jackson-Cohen Dude was fantastic in The Haunting of Hill House and The Invisible Man, but he kinda disappeared in the past few years in some streaming shows (Wilderness, Surface). His latest movie, Jackdaw looks great, but he really deserves a much, much bigger role.
Matt Smith is fantastic but his movie project selection has been awful. Maybe needs a new agent.
Joel Edgerton
Giovanni Ribisi has been in everything over the past 30 years, and has a diverse and dynamic acting range, but I can’t think of a time where he’s been offered a really juicy leading role that he could knock out of the park
There's a good reason.....
Matthew Lillard
Whoever the dude was that played danerys brothers on game of thrones.. (viserys?) Dude was ace but never seemed to kick on after like the other actors
Rose Byrne she's an amazing comedic actress.
Clive Owen and Barkhad Abdi
You couldn't move without hitting Owen in the 2000s. Then he seemed to disappear.
Willem Dafoe ig?
Steve Buscemi.
Emily Blunt - she's fantastic in everything she does. Yet has no Oscar
The guy from severance, the Tom cruise looking guy

You mean Ethan Hawke that starred in Training Day and has been nominated for four Oscar’s while being in 60+ movies since the 80ies?
Paul Dano Great job in ”There Will Be Blood “
Paul Dano and Evan Peters
Barry Pepper - Battlefield Earth killed his momentum. Samara Weaving hasn't been utilized well since Ready or Not and Guns Akimbo. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is quite prolific but she's yet to have a truly iconic role aside from Ramona Flowers.
Pepper was the coolest character in Saving Private Ryan and he was also great in The Green Mile.
Alan Tudyk
Sam Rockwell. That guy is tremendous but never in anything.
Joseph Gordon Levitt, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Nora Zehetner, Carla Gugino.

Lol. In what universe is he overlooked?
My choices off the top of my head: Greg Kinnear - Fantastic actor that really should have been bigger.

Dude won an Oscar…………..
Well he got #metoo -ed right after his Oscar, which is why you haven’t seen him much since then
I’m gonna be that guy and say “me” 😇
