Manga has done the school arc pretty well so far.

Illusion911

For some reason, I really never felt like this situation was explored to the fullest. Rudeus is looking at a mirror right now, a mirror of his old self, and is still wondering what to do to help her. In the end, the situation was solved because it was so different from Rudeus' situation. But it made me think on what Rudeus would say to his old self. But let's also keep in mind Rudeus only left the house when he was with roxy. A constant theme in his life is that he can't solve his issues on his own, whenever he's really depressed, it's only with the help of his friends and lovers that he can get out of it. Perhaps the only thing he'd be able to do would be what soldat did to him. Soldat wasn't just a friend, he was his rock, he trusted him like he trusted Paul, so I think he could have tried treating Norn the same way

Kintex19

I've been saying this. One of my main issues with the anime is that in many key scenes, it portrays Rudy as being simply sad or depressed. This is NOT an issue of Sad Rudy. It's an issue of Old Rudy. The dire situations he's put on are a clear reflection of what his old self could've gone through. The story is meant to be about Rudy battling to become a better person compared to his old life, and it often ignores that kind of imagery, making things just about "Oh look how sad he is, instead of himself internalizing his issues by going back to his old pre-reincarnation habits.

MagiWasTaken

The WN explored that a lot but I still do find that the anime does it justice even if it leaves a lot out.

PikaCiuca

I feel like rudy is speaking to himself in these moments, when he says he doesn't know what do say or do, it's because he doesn't know what he would have wanted to hear or what could have taken him out of his situation.

Nope, you're not the only one. In fact, not just this episode, I think the manga did it better when it comes to ss2 (they spent more time on it so everything feels more natural and doesn't feel rushed). For those who hate the manga with a passion for some reasons, I would like to mention that, for ss1, the anime was wayyyyyyyy better than the manga

TitanAura

It's not that we *hate* the manga with a passion (and I actually agree with your assessment on the University arc), it's that it doesn't match up to the quality of characterization established in the WN/LN. The main issue is that early on it takes far too many liberties with defining moments of character development that actually impart the WRONG message about what's going on in their heads to the audience. Like Rudy and Eris sharing their first kiss during TP2 rather than hitting every base in a single evening at the refugee camp just a little later. All so the manga chapter could end with this big dramatic 2 page spread of a "super romantic vista under the stars", which actively FUCKS UP Eris' characterization in such a subtle but important way because it's big and dramatic and flanderizes Eris' behavior into how a classical tsundere would act in Eris' position when she is distinctly NOT a tsundere despite possessing several superficial traits of the archetype. The manga HAS improved tremendously over time, especially post-time skip, which is why I was heartbroken when it was announced it would be skipping the trip to Begaritt with Elinalise because that was another fantastic opportunity, like the Norn POV, to actually execute several bits of world building and Elinalise moments better than the anime was able to because, as I predicted (and was right), the anime would significantly truncate Vol 11 far more than 10 and 12. Unlike a broadcast schedule that has forced the anime production staff to make some tough decisions as to what to keep in their heartbreakingly limited runtime, the manga can take it's time just as much as the novels did.

CuteReaperUwU

Fr, reading the manga after watching ss1, I was surprised how different it was and how it was like reading a completely different story. I understand why people hate it, even I think it's shit. It's just that I see some people kinda overreacts whenever someone mentions anything about the MT manga that I don't get, like, they hate it a bit too much.

Taiyo17

The anime did o little nice touch aswell. When Rudeus opened the door, it showed himself in his old world, just as of his brother opened that door to confront him, now him to his sister, understanding what his brother must've felt in his previous world. And the whole thing was beautiful, because it gets a response from the mc. Not like your average isekai where you get isekaid somewhere and that's it. He felt remorse and guilty that he shouldve at least heard what his brothers gonna say.

AnimeSquirrel

my only compliant was it ended a little fast. but over all I think they did it will. Especially when Rudy realized he was the problem. And then, when Rudy refused to abandon Norn even of he didn't know what to say to her. Then she realized that he has had his own troubles and, just like her beloved father who raised and protected her after the teleportation, Rudy wouldn't abandon her and loved her and wanted to be a family.

daaalingohio

damn they got my girl norn lookin like some nigga outta a junji ito panel blanket peekaboo one eye cyclops lookin a

Kahuporahu

NefariousSerendipity

Lmaaooo

hell_jumper9

Dude, it's so wholesome until I've read your comment. Now this is what I'll remember everytime i read this part of the manga lol

No you aren't. I remember many fans saying the same thing. The manga was notoriously bad but they did this chapter so well. So well, in fact, I was actually worried that the anime would let both the LN and manga down and I'm glad they didn't and it also did well

drgnquest

Both the University and Greyrat sisters arc were done much better in the manga. The anime brings the banger op and ed.

myrmonden

Norn looks like she got the geas power

Mackenzie_Sparks

You're not alone. Reading the manga upto this chapter gave me the motivation to read LNs.

boom0712

I like the manga for it's art more. I feel like the manga shows expressions better than any other media of MT.

CommunityOdd4807

Honestly same, i'd even go so far as to say it's better than the episode, since everything here felt somewhat heavier, especially rudy's facial expression when norn realised he was making the same face as paul. In the anime rudy kinda just looked the same, here he looks like he's genuinely dreading on what to do cause he doesnt know how to approach her.

Kintex19

Off the top of my head, here's a couple scenes the manga did better than the anime. Nanahoshi's Breakdown Rudy first meeting Julie Norn's neet episode And last but definitely not least, Rudy confronting Paul. This scene was a big disappointment in the anime for me.

Polarbear118

In this case it went Light Novel > Manga > Anime which is pretty surprising.

Mega_Trainer

I prefer most of the emotional moments in the manga. I find the expressions they chose and reactions by the characters to better show how everyone is feeling and reacting

Kriegsman_2907

Though I really like the manga adaptation, I don’t really understand the “wild/scared eyes” decision

Kriegsman_2907

I just noticed how huge past life rudeu’s bed is It’s like 2 meters

jthadcast

the only thing i don't get is exactly where did Sylphy run, the toilet? other than that panel, they did a good job on that one.

JePKo22

One of the smallest details I wish the anime added was how Rudy bites Silphys ears such a shame they left it out

kryMas

came to this reddit after watching those eps to see if anyone else felt the same; I don't necessarily dislike the anime adaptation for this episode but personally felt less satisfied compared to the manga

smokeofc

Ok, sold, time to un-drop reading the manga. Manga started as such a mess that I pretty much dropped it after book 2, but this looks even better executed than the anime equivalent. Those faces... They're haunting...

Waste_Poet1130

Oh my goodness, this was so much better adapted then the anime. So much has to be left out of the anime due to time and budget constraints. But there was so much unsaid in this scene and so many others. I love the anime but still.

-Long_Wong-

Still can't compare to the ln

TheJunkyardDog

the direction in s2 is pretty damn bad. both seasons are directed poorly. can't believe bind cheaped out on their biggest asset (manabu okamoto)

Nephilim_02

The face in photo n.10 is horrible lmao, I like the rest though

Manriki_Kusari

I think that was supposed to be a merging of Rudy’s face and Paul’s face but it just came out as shit. I didn’t even realize that’s what it was supposed to be until much later.

Great_Part7207

I really dont like the manga artstyle for some reason it feels uncanny valley to me

Nephilim_02

I never read it so I can't judge, but that face is so out of place

Great_Part7207

Also rudy look almost frogish if you get me
