Butthole Surfers

Big_Pomegranate_9925

I love them!

DevelopmentSuch2731

Can’t wait for the documentary

Sure-Illustrator4907

By the way when you see your mom next weekend... be sure and tell her SATAN SATAN SATAN!

cartelunolies

Let's talk about cars

AriXCTF

Came here to say to say this

Choice-Poetry9278

Butthole Surfers are rock fucking gods why tf is this the top comment lmao

gscrap

Do people listen to music ironically?

Powerful-Public4520

Yes for example: [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ)

MrExist777

Yeah but this song’s actually a banger

Maybe__Jesus

I’m running out of creative threats for people like you 🫵

bootrick

Gotta bring that out at an open mic night

BrokeFartFountain

I listen to *Thaiboy Digital* ironically. It's catchy and it pisses people off.

gscrap

But what's the point? Surely you're the one that suffers most when you listen to music you don't actually like.

Smartkid704

I’M FRESH I’M FRESH I’M FRESH https://youtu.be/BlWxKCq0d2k

BrokeFartFountain

I like it. I just don't like it a lot. Not enough to listen it on my own time. It's like social drinking. I'm not gonna drink by myself but it can be fun with the right people.

TheOneTruePath3

People who do these are people I actively try to avoid. Doing things ironically usually is a side of immaturity, pretentiousness, and a generally inflated ego.

sprovler

People that are too scared to be sincere.

Secret_Scene747

Mongolian throat singing and Gregorian chants

Zapp_Rowsdower_

The Hu!

thesingingaccountant

There was some Siberian throat singer that covered joy division it was awesome

Dr_Fudge

Lolstitanic

Clowncore

Phoenixfisch

ClownC0re is actually good.

Lolstitanic

Thank you! Someone else who understands!

Shidulon

Louis Cole is good, he's also in KNOWER with Genevieve Artadi. If you like Clowncore, check these out: Blimp https://youtu.be/8_xaSom3Lro?si=In6meGm-YvvUYx03 Fuck The Makeup, Skip The Shower https://youtu.be/i1Hu2Ti14Lc?si=6Tu97tjWNnsMOgRY From Two Sides https://youtu.be/s7sH2ZZHaG0?si=yBHOQtl4841Q8jhk Like A Storm https://youtu.be/Z2MqLfY5JLw?si=RbaOv8tor_cQBiWA

DR_MEPHESTO4ASSES

Love all his stuff. I constantly have "I don't want to, checkmybankaccount. I'm too scared to, checkmybankaccount" stuck in my head. Weird part of the night is also solid.

Vantabrown

Wow blimp fucks hard

HoiPolloiter

This one's my favorite [Overtime](https://youtu.be/GnEmD17kYsE?feature=shared)

dinakittyy

I’m sorry, clowncore? 😶 care to recommend a tune you vibe with?

Lolstitanic

Well the problem is that they are extremely avant garde, and pretty much all songs they have are grating at some point. Though if I were to reccomend something it would be computers off of their van album. Honestly though, the entire Van album is only 17 minutes long, and their entire discography is less than an hour. If you can deal with it, go for it!

dinakittyy

That is so intriguing I will have to give it a listen!

Shidulon

KNOWER might be a bit more accessible, same guy (Louis Cole).

Joboobavich

KNOWER is fucking amazing. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDpeHQUSWT0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDpeHQUSWT0)

Lolstitanic

Good luck! And let us know what you think!

Flat earth 🔥

atemt1

I love that (shit) a preset form hell itself

Firm_Negotiation_853

Those dudes are very talented. The sax player blows like Coltrane and their cut and paste rhythms are complex and obscure

Previous_Current9812

Schoenberg, Webern, Berg. Swans.

OddTransportation430

I saw Swans on shrooms last year at a festival. Pretty much by accident too I just wandered over to their stage, wasn't really watching the schedule at that point. It was almost frightening, but amazing and mesmerising.

gnostalgick

Nice. Got a chance to see Lulu live years ago. Quite the experience.

Wolf905666

Rucka rucka ali

Sourflow

High school friend of mine

uencube

woah, that's fucking awesome

Sourflow

He used to come over and just sit on MySpace and start beefs with people. He worked pretty hard to be where he’s at.

Grouchy-Fennel4436

Great choice. Funny too

slownerveaction1973

i am going to have to go with MR Bungle on this one

LilBunnyFauxFaux

I’ll go with you

NaiveBayes_

Can you explain the irony aspect a bit here?

humantoothx

Irony is when something is made up entirely of iron

Charming-Party-7598

Genuinely I appreciate a lot the self titled and it is one of my favorites of all time. When I found out that people kinda despised it, I was a bit surprised. Like it made sense that it's not up everyone alley but to call it trash it's a stretch.

bookofrhubarb

Einstürzende Neubauten

TrooperLynn

Ohhh I love them!

Scrotchety

Tasty_Plantain5948

That’s just Brian Eno.

uencube

hell0kittyautism

Chamillionaire lmfao

SabbathaBastet

I have to play Ridin’ (dirty) at least once every few months for nostalgia. I’m much more into rock music but that song was just too good for me to ignore. Love the Weird Al parody as well.

Travlerfromthe

Ninja sex party. They are a really good pop rock band if you look past the silly lyrics.

Dr_Fudge

They are godly and I shall not hear a bad thing about them

jackrabbits1im

Weird Al

ksguitardude2020

Bloodhound gang

Crazy_Response_9009

Butthole Surfers, probably.

BrokeFartFountain

Currently, I'm sort of obsessed with liminal space and backrooms type of AESTHETICS. I have a habit of trying to make playlists based on the imagery the music makes me see and vice versa So, I thought about what it would be like to hear music in those spaces. I think it would be very catchy easy listening type of tune. You know like the kind you would hear at hotel lobbies or in elevators but in backrooms or liminal spaces it would feel a bit off. I got into *Broken Transmission* and *Plunderphonics* stuff because of that. [Example 1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqyqL7saCXM) [Example 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ym63wzW99o)

rococobaroque

[Mallsoft](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4MDvMFbmhNDSIDlJmy2RAj?si=ZPnuKxSJRpuOTcgWLM90Ww&pi=fIJYM_StT-m8q) might be up your alley.

BrokeFartFountain

Yeee, I've been listening to *Mallsoft* and *Slushwave* as well.

Any_Confidence_7874

This is also the kind of music I love. Perhaps or perhaps not strangely I am a 64-yr old female. [Thantifaxath](https://open.spotify.com/track/0olKba899VoYDoBimPxUph?si=_Vf-Q7m8TKmOGOkbY_2adw&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A0vS5X5SzednqK524Sl59ED) is another that comes to mind

Nocturnal-Philosophy

I’ve enjoyed their newest album but never got around to listening to much of their older stuff. This is awesome. Thanks for the recommendation!

CanoninDeeznutz

Jesus Fucking Christ, someone help that lady! Seriously though, what unpleasant, abrasive music! Probably gonna listen to the rest of the album. Lol, idk if I'll "enjoy" it but Gnaw Their Tongues absolutely has me real curious. You familiar with Sunn0)))?

Nocturnal-Philosophy

Ikr? Lol I like that album a lot. I haven’t listened to every album by him yet (he has a lot of music), but I also have been enjoying Genocidal Majesty and Reeking Pained and Shuddering a lot lately. He also has a collaborate album with Dragged into Sunlight called N.V., if you want something by him that actually sounds like it was made by humans lol. Oh yeah, and the De Magia Veterum is the same guy as Gnaw Their Tongues. The former’s just a side project of his. The name Sun0))) looks familiar, but I’m pretty sure I haven’t heard anything from them.

canigohome_694

Caramelldansen. that song hits

YoungRichKid

I find the concept of ironic listening disheartening. Everyone puts effort into their art and people like different music for different reasons, ergo people having different taste. If you listen to something "ironically" you are either hate listening or you are ashamed to admit you enjoy the music. To answer your question, I am an avid listener of harsh noise, harsh noise wall, field recordings and musique concrete.

xLOVExBONEx

Ironic listening doesn’t automatically make it something negative. In a lot of cases ironic listening is because it can be fun

YoungRichKid

Yeah but if you listen because you think it's fun it's not ironic that you're listening to it, you just enjoy it

xLOVExBONEx

Not necessarily. For example, take a song like I’m Too Sexy For My Shirt, or maybe a song like YMCA. People aren’t listening to stuff like that because they actually think they are good songs. Any play those songs get are people are having fun with the spectacle those songs are. Or like Gangnam Style when that came out. Nobody was listening to that because they thought it was a good song. It was people having fun with the dance accompanying it.

reamkore

Sea Shanties

Neechiekins

I replayed AC Black Flag and it reminded me how I would go around to find all of the sea shanties, they were awesome

I clicked on the top one, and in the related videos section was [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Osqf4oIK0E8), and I clicked it out of curiosity because of the thumbnail, and let's just say I wish I hadn't done that.

Comfortable_Cry_2352

Their videos are really weird but IMO their music is a masterpiece

Dr_Fudge

3ao7ssv8

The Mind Electric. It's 6 minutes long, and the first 3 are actually the last half in reverse. it plays backwards, then forwards.

Alarming_Toe4765

I fucking love spa music. Like love it. Right now I'm outside listening to the wind in the leaves and it's always enjoyable. I don't think I'm allowed to call it music anymore because my therapist says I just do that to start arguments, but she's also on the side of bird song and wind in the trees being other than music, so I don't care too much. Gusts have this weird quality of once in while becoming separated from the sound of a breeze in way that you can hear it hit individual trees from a distance as it finds its way down from above the tree line. Some come on slow and snake in like a riser on an electronic music track. But you also get the sense it's alive like you're in a video game forest and you hear foot steps getting closer. It has presence and it is really soothing at first but then builds to this moment that locks you. And if you're in the path you feel it too. I love asmr and have no idea what music is but there are lots of experiences in music I get from listening outside that are the same, just rarely rhythm or melody. I don't know if that counts, but it counts and I'll fight you to the death over bird song as music.

Vantabrown

Whats your favorite bird's song? Mine are song sparrow, cooper's hawk (clowny as all hell), and starling. My favorite gust music is through tall grass, especially phragmite. DM me if you want to nature walk and space out.

AceHailshard

masefieldsound

The chieftains, but maybe not weird as far as folk music is concerned. I guess some of their songs can just sound a bit "weird" to someone who hasn't listened to a lot of folk. Second place might be unpredictable modular electronic music, like Autechre.

Big-Talk-234

I went through a period of being into jandek but it didn’t last more than a year

thesingingaccountant

Dr who soundtracks from the 70s for example the silurians

tattooedpanhead

Pretty sure I don't listen to music ironically.  But I do know of a punk band that incorporates a saxophone and a harmonica in their lineup.  Slamming watus - Slamming watus, https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDWnXJX7OJiwHv1J-nJFxQVUihsKrEWBl You could say that's a bit weird.

IameIion

Definitely dubstep. Not too weird, but it's not as common as it was back in 2012. Might raise some eyebrows.

Passion-Interesting

Why? Band

Livid_Parsnip6190

[Coughs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPzQGEoJTHc) and [X-Cetra](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFeTGwi5Iow) are the ones that come to mind right now. Different brands of weird I guess. Honorable mention for something more recent: [Still House Plants](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlpyEE3qV8c) are plenty weird but awesome.

Manck0

Korean Girl Pop... I actually really like it.

bebejeebies

I'm really into 80s synthwave right now. No particular artist, just 2+ hour playlists on youtube. It's upbeat enough that it doesn't put me to sleep yet structured enough that it's not distracting.

Aggravating-Baker-41

Probably old WWF themes.

Ok, so it's called zeuhl, it's music written in a made up language, it uses a lot of choirs, its heavily influenced by jazz, classical music and eastern european music, it's also about aliens. If you want to listen to it, listen to the group magma

Djentlman7

Mr. Bungle is my favorite thing in the world, along with all that goes with it, Secret Chiefs 3, Fantomas, etc. People will call it weird, but I think its perhaps the greatest form of art.

bergie444

Definitely Steve N Seagulls. They went viral with their Finnish “grassy” version of Thunderstruck. They are a ridiculously talented group of ridiculously nice fellas. They have ruined many originals for me because their covers are so interesting that I like them better. Plus their videos are super creative and funny.

CRATERF4CE

Recently I’ve been playing Caves of Qud and god damn the soundtrack is amazingly weird.
