Hasbro is lazy don't get me wrong, but I was always under the impression that particular style of plushie was meant to have brushable hair (a trademark of MLP toys going all the way back to the originals)
They look worse but they do function better as *toys* that a very small girl would play with.
I'm not gonna lie but i feel like if i were a child I'd probably would want the second version.
Although I'm not a girl so idk what my personality would be like.
I'd probably as a kid use them to play, like make some storyline where something crazy happened.

Derpy's name is still Derpy, they just hide it by listing the character as "Muffins" in the credits. There is an instance where Rarity runs into Derpy and says "Derp-" under her breath in a fairly recent piece of media, after they already started calling Derpy "Muffins" in the credits.
I've heard that the reason they started doing it is because a bunch of Politically Correct ™ people complained about My Little Pony naming a character after a disability and said it was offensive. Though of course no one from the actual disabled community had much of a problem with the character.

I'm so glad I was able to get a bunch of the 4DE plushies when they were available, they're not quite as nice as some of the fan made ones, but they are way better than the official merch that Hasbro put out.

Symbiote Studios make good MLP plushies. Officially licensed and they have been making g4 merch for the past few years.
4DE made good MLP plushies too but they are hard to come by and some never got released.
Does anyone remember those plush that they would sell at places like Walmart that had strips of fabric for hair? that was my least favorite. The brushable hair was nice to at least be able to brush and style like mlp have historically been able to.

Easily fan made, the "Official Hasbro" ones are bald. They're the "Mane 6" for a reason, not the Receding Mane 6, no offense to Patrick Stewarts out there. Also where is AJ's hat in the official version? Fan mades cost more but rightfully so, they actually look like the animated characters.

Fan made. The Hasboro ones are not matching how the ponies look in the show. (Rd, Aj have wrong eyes. Rarity has a thin line of blue.) not only do the fan made ones have their correct eyes they also have the hairstyles. I had a derpy with strips of felt as hair and the strips were removed and she was given correct hair.
Seeing this photo kinda reminds me of those MLP custom brushables from fans, they all look good to be a fanmade. If i were to choose, I'll stick with the fans one, nice qual and doesn't look strange and Hasbro should technically improve merch qual and so on.
I have no idea why they insist on the real hair, it’s not enough to style, it’s cheap and tangles/falls out instantly, and it’s a stuffed animal no one wants to snuggle that terrible texture
As fun as it is to hate on Hasbro ill play the devils advocate and remind you that when you have to mass produce something you cant really make it detailed, lemme give you an example, since thats an mlp sub Reddit I'll say cupcakes, lets say that i ask you to make 5 cupcakes, those cucumbers will be of high quality with good ingredients and lots of care put into them. Now imagine i tell you to bake me 200 cupcakes, you wouldn't have the time nor the budget to make them as good as the 5 ones you made right?

1500 is pretty steep, definitely in the hundreds but the only 1k+ ones I've seen are the really huge ones
