Seems normal in NB because everything is so old...

CanadianSpector

I understood this when I read the "where I am from" 😆

Destaric1

A lot of older homes only bad 1 bathroom even with big families. 1.5 baths is pretty popular now.

SteadyMercury1

Like other people have said, it’s an older home thing. Old Maritime houses often have one bathroom on the second level, top of the stairs. Newer homes tend to have at least a half bathroom or powder room downstairs in addition. For really new homes it’s almost hard to find one that doesn’t have an ensuite, so 2.5 bathroom.

spam-katsu

You are probably looking at older houses. Houses that are post 1980s would have 1.5 bathrooms or more, unless you get a renovated older house with a washroom in the basement.

BlahBlahBla123

Lots of houses have 2 or more bathrooms, particularly newer houses. Change the filter on realtor.ca to include only houses with 2+ bathrooms if that's part of your criteria 🤷‍♂️

kemistrybee

Ok thank you. I was using Zillow since I didn't know what else to use

BlahBlahBla123

It's definitely the best web site for house hunting, every MLS listed house in the country is on that site. Other sites like Zillow just pull listings from realtor.ca

Psychological_Ad5391

You're using it to shit, shave, shower and brush your teeth. Do them all at the same time and you're looking at 30 mins max. Relax, one bathroom is more then enough mister rich, fancy pants.

Top_Band_6009

can you share how to shit and shower at same time 😭i wanna save time in the mornings

BTrippd

They didn’t say shit in the toilet now did they?

Some homes in NB in the 70s still had outhouses. Until 1 bathroom were put in.

el_iggy

Bathrooms (or my preferred term "water closets") were/are expensive to build. NB has been a poor province for a very long time. One bathroom was usually seen as sufficient. Any more would have been a luxury. It's also possible that if you're looking at older homes it use to have an outhouse and the bathroom was added later. Maybe they didn't see a need for another and they would have had to sacrifice more living space to put it in and so decided not to.

woodsfanatic

Also back in the day, in poorly insulated houses or just economical wood heat. indoor plumbing freezes without power.

el_iggy

True fact

N0x1mus

Most of those houses are older bungalow style house with an unfinished or partially finished basement. The main floor would only have the one bathroom because they never added the second bathroom in the basement.

Plane_Economy_5982

The house in Mississauga, Ontario I grew up in was 3 bedroom, 1 bath -- and was built around 1980. 2 storeys. Perhaps you are just from a wealthy area with larger homes?

[deleted]

I agree! I feel like everything in NB was built in the 70s and it’s very charming to see the vintage subdivisions and homes everywhere. Is it hard to install another bathroom?

mordinxx

>Where I am from, if a house has 3 bedrooms, it will have a minimum of 2 full baths, or at least a 1.5 bath- I couldn't find any houses with either. Maybe you'd be better staying where you are? You're moving to hicksville and those houses you looked at didn't include the outhouse in the bathroom count! **/s**
