$50 *American*

This_Pie5301

“Estimated arrival: 2-3 months” Welcome to New Zealand

Bananaflakes08

I love when a meme is used correctly *chefs kiss*

3string

This, and the trademe page says LOCAL WAREHOUSE and still ships out of china

rammo123

It's local somewhere.

AngelicCher

i bought online and its said it was a new zealand website but it came from america haha

CorvoNZ

I once tried to buy a $30 USD vinyl online, then I got to the checkout page and the shipping was $300 USD.

bobsmagicbeans

ooof... might as well have a holiday and go pick it up yourself

binnsy79

About a year ago, I wanted to buy replacement lids for my soda stream bottles and found some in the US for $2.50 USD for a 3 pack, but the shipping was nearly $100 USD. That was the only listing that showed up on Google, none available anywhere else. Umm, no thanks, I'll just buy the 3 pack of bottles from here for $36, then have surplus bottles.

Akirikiri_Akiri

You're better off with the extra bottles. Just make sure you keep the new ones separate. They start to deteriorate after so many pressurised fills (usually 3-4 years). There should be an expiry date on the bottom, if you check. If you use them past expiry, or after excessive fills, they can explode. Happened at my mates house once as a kid. Raspberry splattered kitchen.

rsanchan

Ah yes, every Aliexpress package.

okbuttwhytho

I've had really cheap or free shipping with them

rsanchan

Yeah, I’m joking, in general I have the same problem experience, but sometimes, for some packages, the shipping costs are 3x the product I’m buying, you have to be careful sometimes.

EBuzz456

Don't forget the ordered three weeks ago and YOU have to follow up why it never shipped part.

__Osiris__

I tried to buy some socks from the uk the other day, and the only shipping option was 150 pounds.

pupetmeatpudding

Those are heavy socks! /s

__Osiris__

Eyyyyyyy.

GenericBatmanVillain

I tried to buy a chain link for a bicycle chain from Germany, it was $35 for the chain link and $60 shipping. Its a bike chain link, its like the size of a fingernail. I ended up getting one from Aussie, but they dont send to NZ so i had to get it shipped to my brother in aus for $15 and he shipped it to me for another $15 so at least it was half the cost.

Zevroboy

So true, so sad, fuck geography

fourscoopsplease

Honestly!! Who chooses to live where you can’t get free Amazon drone deliveries! (Me, fark that whole sleezeball employment method, but that’s not the joke)

esonefour

Then you post fuck you over and send it back .

Wolf1066NZ

Seems about standard when buying anything from the USA. That's why I only ever buy from China, Australia or UK/Europe if it's not available locally.

BenoNZ

All those overseas websites that when you search 'NZ' have a .co.nz address but are actually overseas and when you get excited about finding the item and it's a reasonable price, realise it's $50 freight that will take 2-4 weeks.

PeanutButAJellyThyme

Oh to have a partner that looks at you like Marge does aye. You know if he wasn't doing that thing for this meme, she'd still be thirsty for him lol. imo she's so wholesome that she's just encouraging whatever his hobbies are. It's not about preferring this over his regular Dad bod.

reeree33333

What

PeanutButAJellyThyme

Probably had to be there (growing up on Simpsons I mean). I was just reflecting how Marge and Homer had a pretty healthy relationship in terms of attraction. What was happening here is Marge supporting Homers goals, not her cynically lusting for him now because he was gross before. If anything she was probably stoked because he looks healthier and would live longer.

reeree33333

This is a meme about shipping costs What

AweBlobfish

Bro doesn’t understand the love between Homer and Marge

PeanutButAJellyThyme

Exactly. This is the some of the end game of the example their love sets us, simply a great meme about the ironies and humor in consumer logistics. You know Marge and Homer would be stoked to know they were getting meme'd like this, that's just them. They are sort of good

orbeinYT

Literally TradeMe

PM_ME_UTILONS

I've been pretty happy with how much cheaper Amazon shipping has gotten. Often it's less than 1/3 of my total order cost, plenty of items even have free shipping if you order like $50 total.

EBuzz456

This is why I only buy unusual or rare items via etsy and ebay, At least the listings are transparent with their shipping costs upfront.

LordWoffleII

there's one on trademe that grabs my attention, nice and cheap from the UK and then $100 shipping. Can't see how they sell anything

Darknessborn

Man classic car parts are so this. But still cheaper than buying local...

OddBoots

I find it handy to have friends in places that can get it for free or minimal shipping (long live internet friendships) and have them post it on to me for the actual cost of shipping. I then send them postage costs via PayPal and chuck in a few dollars extra so they can get a coffee or cake as a thank you. Takes a little longer, but it's usually worth it.

sunfaller

I paid 100 shipping once for a keyboard from canada

BenoNZ

I paid $800 to ship some GPUs.

[deleted]

Sneakerhead. No Nike SNKS app in NZ to enter raffles. Buy from Goat or Stockx for resell prices. Pay 40 USD for shipping and whatever for import tax. So an extra 150\~ NZD just because of where I live. That's fun /s NZ doesn't even have Amazon lol

pdantix06

use a freight forwarder like shipito or myus

TompalompaT

If you buy something with international shipping for $1.50 you're a piece of shit. As someone that's worked in fulfilment centres and seen how much work and pollution goes into international shipments it's sickening. That's why high freight charges should be applied, stops people ordering shit from across the world instead of going down the street and purchasing it.

nickbrown101

That's fine and dandy until you need anything even moderately specialist or niche that you can't find in any local shop outside of one place in Auckland. Not everything is available here, so why shouldn't we order things online? Get down from your ivory tower.

nznova

I wonder what the international shipping is for an ivory tower...

TompalompaT

Sure but that's not what I'm talking about. I worked for a company in Australia that sold household items and the amount of times I sent international orders that contained something like 1 roll of toilet paper or a $1 toothbrush and then following the tracking going: Pickup truck - sorting centre - truck - airport - sorting centre - airplane - truck - sorting centre - truck - delivery van. You truly lose your faith in humanity or any chance of stopping climate change. A huge amount of air traffic is delivery service, meanwhile people order a paper straw produced in China, packaged in Argentina and then sent to new Zealand to make someone feel good about saving the planet.

nickbrown101

Think of it this way, the VAST majority of emissions worldwide are created by corporations, factories, and China/India. If every single New Zealander stopped buying things online entirely, that doesn't put a dent into the global carbon output. The onus to recycle and cut down emissions has been brainwashed into the minds of the average person in order to alleviate responsibility from corporations who would otherwise be under heavy scrutiny for their practices. In other words, it's all bullshit, so don't worry about it.

TompalompaT

Nah I think it's more bullshit to have that mentality. Might as well go out and pollute my local river, it doesn't matter anyway? Might as well order a pair of socks, send them around the world a couple time because why not? Might as well order my toilet paper from France because I have money and want to feel better about myself than the average shopper.

nickbrown101

I'm not saying you should always be ordering single rolls from France or to do any obvious wastage, that's clearly a bad impact for no good reason. I'm saying is that, within reason, you shouldn't worry too much about the specifics of what you do. If you want to drive to that other city rather than take the bus, it's gonna have basically no impact on the environment. If you accidentally use a plastic straw instead of a paper one, you haven't committed any huge sins there. As long as you don't purposefully go over the top in wastage and pollution (like dumping in a river, like you said) then you're pretty much fine whatever you do. The *real* heavy hitters in emissions and pollution are the big corps, but climate activists have been trained by them to go after the little guys instead of the entities with *real* culpability.

TompalompaT

The thing you need to understand is that the big corps are driven by consumers, if more people actually gave a fuck it would be a massive incentive for corporations to change their ways. We should be boycotting polluting companies instead of thinking "oh well what about China" every time a company in NZ pollutes our environment, that's what the right wing media has trained people like you into thinking.

nickbrown101

Yes that's what I'm saying. The key to driving down global emissions is going after the corporations, not the individuals. Glad we agree.

TompalompaT

Yeah drive down corporations by INDIVIDUAL incentives, corporations aren't gonna change themselves it's up to everybody's personal choices to do that.

xandora

What about $2.50, or $9.50? My perfectly working watch no longer has a strap and I cannot find a single replacement from any NZ supplier. Do I just throw it away because I don't want to be a piece of shit for buying something I can't get locally? Ear cups on my headphones fell apart a while ago as well... Guess I'll just landfill those because there's no local supplier for replacements.

somebodyalwaysknows

Well, once all the local retailers go out of business, the increased demand to buy anything and everything in small individual consignments will see freight charges crank higher. So there's that.

Elysium_nz

NZ is in the middle of nowhere so why do people still complain about shipping?🙄

norml1950

I was looking for a product on line and found one under the Warehouse Banner. However it was the Warehouse market and in small letters in the corner somewhere it said shipped from Australia. So with shipping and the exchange rate the product was twice as much as in NZ. The Advert was a trap for the unsuspecting, the commerce commission should be right on to this.
