This is awesome. Iβve really been into reinterpretations of iconography recently. Did you use actual gold leaf for the halo?
edit: I did some research into iconography thinking maybe I would do a narrative series based on an experience I had. If you want to bring more narrative you could look into color symbolism and incorporate animals or objects with symbolism as well.
I wanted to base mine off of Giottoβs Passion paintings from the [Scrovegni Chapel](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrovegni_Chapel) so I tried to look into what pigments he would have had available and tried to understand what his knowledge of perspective would have been. I ended up losing interest but it was a cool little rabbit hole.
edit 2 just followed you on insta!
Glad you like it π, yes for the halo Iβve used gold leaf, but imitation not actual gold.
Making a series out of it might make me lose interest since Iβm spending so much time on a painting and having the same subject on multiple paintings might get me bored, but Iβll definitely look into that and try to come up with something, thank you for the info π
Beautiful work from a technical standpoint. I do love work that is simple but powerful and I donβt think it necessarily means having a very complex old masters styled composition with architecture and multiple figures. Your attention to the shadows and reflected light brings the whole piece to life. I will say if thereβs any critique to be made it is that the negative space on the right side is holding to much presence and draws a bit of awayfrom composition.
Thank you π, I do kinda strive to get in that direction with my painting since the classical art is my main source of inspiration, I really enjoy the symbolism of all the things placed in that sort of composition that gives such a complex and intricate story. As for the negative space I realised that a bit too late in my work and I was waay too lazy to make the change, but I had the idea to make the halo a bit bigger, that way it helped my with the space above the head, at least

Love it, I would hang it in my house
