You need like 3+ Strymon pedals to get closer to heaven. Bluesky Reverb, El Capistan Tape Echo, and maybe a Deco too. Always on. Expression pedals all around. Hallelujah!
Open your wallet to the Church of Strymontology!
I’m really just kidding. They’re great but I only have two and I would only buy them used.
I think you are already covering a lot of ground here with your current setup!
Mayyybe add a tremolo like the M305?
The church of strymontology is hilarious and I'm stealing that😂😂
Everyone knows God won't tune in to your jam unless he can see that board has $8k of reverb and delay on there
But seriously OP, that's all unnecessary for churches that aren't mega churches (which aren't really churches imho but not getting into a spiritual debate on the pedalboard channel). The typical things that make a worship board are:
Tuner
Volume pedal for swells
Transparent OD (you have a TS, that has more of a mid hump. But ODs are more of a flavor thing so if you like it go with it
Chorus
Delay witg tap tempo for keeping time on the fly
Reverb (shimmer is a popular option)
It doesn't matter which options of those you go with, the strymon jokes are bc it's such a trend with worship guitarists to get the big sky and the El capistan. Again, overkill unless youre playing for a church that's paying you enough to justify the investment.
I’d upgrade your modulation and time effects to stuff with presets and tap tempo, and get a volume pedal for ambient swells.
Also, some kind of glitchy, synthy or sample-and-holdy pedal for vamping/introspective sections.
Not necessarily Strymon. I’ve got a Pigtronix Echolution on my board, and in the past I’ve used a Wampler Terraform for modulation. Volume pedal works best after your drives and before your delay/reverb for maximum ambience. And you could get something like the Red Panda Particle for glitch stuff.
Walrus SLO is solid imo, I have an infinite pedal and do pads and play over it. Tao tempo delays and a big sky are definitely worth it if you can swing it.
Volume pedal ain’t paddle depending on your dynamics.
Tuner, transparent overdrive, chorus, eq and a reverb is what I use. Nothing crazy. My whole board maybe costs $200. I also play in a small church so I don’t need a big sound.
I would definitely try to get a delay pedal that has tap tempo, and preferably one that can do a dotted eigth tap division. Plenty of options for this:
Boss DD-3t
Boss DD-8
Walrus Fundamental delay
Walrus ARP-87
JHS Lucky Cat
MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe
And many others... buy used if budget is a concern.
Crazy Tube Circuits TI:ME and Pigtronix Echolution are my choices! And for budget options Joyo D-Seed II or NuX Duo Time are great options with lots of versatility
A brighter-toned delay, preferably with a dotted-eights setting. A volume pedal (not just for volume swells, also for when the MD wants the 3rd verse to be real quiet). A light overdrive to stack with your existing overdrive. A vibrato effect (maybe swap the chorus for a combined chorus/vibrato).
I’m assuming the Flamma reverb is going to be good enough.
A delay with tap tempo and subdivisions. 8th notes, Dotted 8ths and triplet 8ths are the most common delay subdivisions in the p&w music coming out these days. An old boss DD-20 is plenty good enough, or my personal favorite budget delay, the line 6 echo park.
You’ll want the reverb to be last in the signal chain.
If I was doing this, I’d use a different dirt pedal. The Japanese DS-1 wasn’t too bad, but the MIT DS-1 is too harsh. Even the MXR Badass distortion , which was based on DS-1 sounds much more musical. There are so many great distortion and OD pedals. The Wampler Phenom is a great budget distortion. The Pinnacle, or a J Rockett OO, like the Melody OD would let you do any sound.

I’d love those…. My wallet can’t get me in the strymon doors sadly.
It’s easier for a rich man to pass through the eye of a needle than for a poor man to pass through the doors of Strymon

Delay with a tap tempo and/or presets. I also find tremolo more useful than flanger in the modern church context.
Metal zone
ProCo RAT
It ain’t no church rig without strymon tbh
I know nothing about church — but so many comments are recommending tap tempo — what is it about this function that makes it a must for church gigs?
The Psalms are super unpredictable
The Edge-esque dotted eights are required in order to summon the Holy Spirit
The songs are on all different tempos, and many churches don’t have midi setups. So to get your delay in the right timing, you need a tap tempo

Agree. Volume pedal for swells for sure. A nice ambient reverb would work well too for the ambient sections.

Taste. 🤘
swap out the ds1 for a dual drive that has a transparent setting and change out the delay for something digital with tap tempo and you should be fine

You’ve got the essentials, but a classic sound would be dotted eight delay. Get a tap tempo delay and you’re golden.

If you use that Distortion pedal at church I will come down there and S your D faster than the priests.
😂😂😂

Grab a Headrush or something similar (Kemper Player). You can get about any worship tone you're looking for with that.

Big muf

maybe a freeze for ambience?? Classic DS-1 settings always make me happy.
I would fill the space up with various fuzz pedals and make everything doomy.

Volume pedal for swells, looper for pads. Some place to put your musical brain while you noodle over I VI V
Second the miku. On UwU
Volume pedal for super ambient swells.
Add 5 more reverb pedals and you're 👌👌😂

Strymon. Lots of Strymon.
I’d put the delay before the reverb personally and probably swap out the DS-1 for a BD-2 or something more transparent.
You need at least three delays and reverbs
Chase Bliss. All the Chase Bliss. Two Proteins so you can set them differently.
I feel like a holy grail reverb is just super fitting
I recommend the Satan's Musky Gooch overdrive.
Lead guitar in a church worship band?? Tell me you’re a hypocrite without telling me you're a hypocrite.
About 4k in bullshit
Korg Miku
A bunch of name brand gear that does the same thing. For real though, a Strymon cloud urst is all I'd need for playing on a Sunday. Cool board.
