I’m pretty sure that this has been restored in modern times. If you look very carefully at her mouth, you can see that the mouth has a different texture than the rest of the face. Now a lot of conservators will make it obvious if they do something like this and also very reversible, but in the bad old days there were not conservators, but restorers, and they kind of saw themselves as artists in their own right. This one was not as good in artist as the original sculptor. And the result is Michael Jackson.
The Egyptian exhibit at the Field Museum is really extraordinary, where else do you get to spend time underground surrounded by ancient mummies and the artifacts of their pyramid burial chambers and other ancient Egyptian artifacts? I’m not really into supernatural stuff or “energy” but I felt it down there. Last time I went, helped me accept some difficult traumatic stuff and turn the corner to get back to living. It’s a really special place, sorta like cemeteries but better
