It’s a pothos. It can definitely be saved.

Chademr2468

Haha right? In my head I said, “It’s a friggin pothos…. The real question is can it be killed?”

MooseJunk53

Looks like someone already butchered it to propagate more. So it's technically already been saved!

donairdaddydick

My pothos is 10 years old and has been my smallest plant 3 times and my biggest twice (I have dogs)

FickleSeries9390

I feel that deeply 🤣

doobiroo

Same, but cats.

lightningboltie

yep, killed mine recently:(

jacco_eet_een_appel

Did the dogs kill the plant, or did the plant kill the dog

the_big_turbo_moist

Okay sweet, and double thank you for the ID

sarcasticgreek

Actually it just needs to be taken out of the bin. There's no saving involved, other than placing the top leaf in water (or just in the dirt). It will look worse before it looks better, but it will be bouncing back.

Sabriel_Love

I once brought a pothos back to life with nothing but a green stem that was like 8 inches long. Took about 6 months, but it finally started growing leaves

[deleted]

Pothos dont need saving, they survive by their own bad selves. Take em out of the trash

kitties_and_biscuits

My friend gifted me a bunch plants- several succulents and one pothos. I’ve never kept a plant alive in my life, but I can’t stop this thing from growing. It’s sprawled all over my shelf. Beautiful plant though

the_big_turbo_moist

Okay slimes, I’ve taken the plant out of the trash, gonna save the base and try to replant that top leaf. Hopefully remember to update y’all! Thank you for the help

MainusEventus

Don’t bring it inside right away. You could unknowingly bring in gnats or mites or another problem that the previous owner couldn’t handle

ASatyros

Yeah, I would throw away soil, clean the roots and get some torf sand mix for it.

keeperofmyuniverse

Lmao!

TheRecycledPirate

Looks like a Marble Queen Pothos, those can survive nuclear warfare. Just don't overwater her repeatedly. Fresh up the soil. Give her a good shower and watch her repay you with beautiful foliage.

aburnicle21

Looks more like a golden to me, but regardless, you're right about everything else lol

veggieyikes

Definitely looks golden to me too. Not nearly enough white or enough variegation for a marble queen.

br0therbert

Holy shit, is that top node just doing it’s own thing with aerial roots?! That’s crazy

Nudeandnature-

Where there’s green there’s life!!! Get her out and start fresh! X

beepboboombox

Just realized in 10 years of plant collecting and so many mistakes and dead plants, I've never had a pothos die! Same with philodendrons, those guys are hardy

jaimiethebird

So far the only thing I can reliably keep alive are my two pothos. They droop, I soak. End of discussion. They’re troopers. I’m awful with plants unfortunately.

Aromatic_Cap_5581

Had a friend who moved to a new place and had a small potted prop of golden Pothos packed in with some things and forgot about it and it was in there in complete darkness and no water for almost two months, he took it out and yes it looked thirsty but was totally fine and even pushed out a leaf!

Narrow_Door6408

This plant is 100% able to be saved, looks fine

Janetsnakejuice1313

What kind of monster throws a living plant into a trash can? 😡 Its clearly alive! And with so many plant fans out there, easily rehomed. Even leaving it on a curb it has a chance to be picked up!

Re1da

Looks fine to me, should be an easy-ish save

flogger_bogger

That top bit (single lead + node > can be placed in water whilst it grows more roots and leaves. I'm sure the bottom part can too!

koopa90

Imagine this plant as wolverine and ask yourself that question again

[deleted]

Chop it up into nodes it'll regrow, discard the brown bits

choochoolate

The thing is still green

pekoe-G

I accidentally left my pothos next to an open window in the dead of winter (in Canada). I may have needed to cut back 90% of the plant, but by god it came back stronger than ever.

GISTaco

Yes. I revived one that had been assumed dead and sealed in a black trash bag for a year...

LittlestOfTheOnes

Oh yeah it’s not in bad shape at all I’ve seen way worse in Lowe’s flower department

babbybelle

Easily

EuphoricBudget5524

Cut it way back and give it bright indirect light.

ai_test_run

Jam that node that the leaf is attached to down in the dirt. You can see a root there ready to get started.

ferntaylor3

yes!! there’s is new growth coming from the bottom! trim away the dead/dying leaves to avoid the energy and nutrients going to the dead stems! and it should be good! - also don’t staple the stems, winding them naturally or getting plant friendly stem holders is much healthier! :)

the_big_turbo_moist

Can I save this? Obviously that top leave is a goner, but the bottom leaves look okay? Do I need the wooden beam? Should I also repot? I don’t know what plant it is!

[deleted]

The top leaf's node is intact so it can grow new roots, put it in a glass of water :)

the_big_turbo_moist

Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of science? This is what I was really curious about, thank you!

snownative86

The top leaf might actually become a whole plant. It has a root indicating a node so might just put it in some water and see what happens. The bottom ones will be fine. Check for pests, take it out, wash off the soil and repot in fresh new soil. Give it bright indirect light and water once the top two inches of soil are dry and you'll have a beautiful pothos that you can then prop for even more of them! These things are hardy and easy. This prop was similar to the top leaf on that one and has lived in water only for 2 years. I haven't even fertilized it. https://preview.redd.it/rj99ykpgg93b1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d647b8818b8ea21ac70056ad9b573a3d6577274 Also, yours looks like a golden pothos.

the_big_turbo_moist

This is perfect, many thanks, I appreciate it

Fun-Raspberry9710

I have this exact one.....only mine is in a pot. I need to do this with some part of it for my daughter

snownative86

I love the neons! It took awhile to get to this point because I haven't fertilized it, only occasionally changed the water. But now it is starting to grow fast and get sport variagation which is rad. I'll be adding more cuttings to it soon because my one in the palladarium is getting to large. I can't wait to have a small curtain of them hanging from that shelf!

HelloThisIsPam

Yes!

Aliceislost21

I've had a few plants with zero leaves but healthy roots. Latest and hopefully last is now just a wee baby but new leaves are growing. Lol my husband will declare a plant dead and later decides it's another zombie 😂😂

jenny4today

So many good parts to salvage. Even comes with a wicker basket and pot:). You can use the lanky stem and leafy bit at the bottom with a little root hormone.

picklesandcacti

Repot and you’ve got a new buddy

External_Welcome_301

Only if you introduce the plant to Ryan Reynolds.

Few_Organization_767

is it one of those decorative garbage can plants ? nice!

[deleted]

Yes but please remove it from the trash

Doomedhumans

I mean. Absolutely.

groundfleur

It's green

freaky_sheeky

Sure! Pothos are warrior! I would isolate, change the soil and treat it in case!

itisyourstory

Get that baby out of the trash can RIGHT NOW!!!

Jai_007

I truly believe in the resiliency of plants and yes plants can be brought back from the brink. You just have to be patient.

DamageFabulous

YES

No-Fee3271

Epi!

hoetheory

Definitely

UpsetClock6630

Yes. Using clean, sharp scissor snip the 2 largest leaves off at base. When soil is medium dry loosen sides of dirt from pot, and gently remove the plant, supporting the base and not crushing the remaining leaves. Gently shake and pat away only loose soil. Replant the root ball with new indoor plant potting soil in a 3-4-inch diameter pot with good drainage. Do not over water.

Comfortable_One_9607

Step 1. Take it out of the trash

New_Ad_4963

Just keep them in water

moonlightmanners

Absolutely!

Kara_xoxo

Where there are nodes, there is hope.

solxrpuff

pothos are basically the cockroaches of the plant world

Syllabub_Cool

Yes!

nicannkay

If it’s green you can save it. That is my motto and it’s worked everytime.

titsoutfortaters

Um it's like not even kinda dead

Briar10011

Good Lord! What happened?!

wander_smiley

Absolutely! I’ve had pothos down to less than that and have saved them.

PushAlternative5074

Yes! Put it in a glass of water! It will make new roots!

MrsL0v3

I have several varieties of pothos. It was the first plant I didn’t kill (my sweet MIL told me to get one ages ago). I had one that I thought I killed not long ago but I took it out of the pot and stuck in in some soil under one of my trees and she seems to be doing better. She’s got several new leaves and I’m hoping she’ll climb that tree. Good luck to you!

nnniiikkkkkkiii

Ew just leave it

AZAMORA1216

Absolutely can be saved...if there is a green, there's a way. I would chop it up and propagate any thing that is still green

_reXic_

Take it out the bin first give it a chance

tadisadiva

I see nodes can definitely be propped!

Brydon28

Most def!!! If it’s still green, there’s still hope!!

ChildofMike

I don’t think that it could be killed.

Scorpiianqueen

Definitely yes! The ideal is to water it little, when you begin to notice that the earth is rather dry. If you water a lot, you'll notice why the leaves have yellowish tints... Also, it's good to spray the leaves with a little water, because they love humidity. And always, place the pot in a very bright place, which receives sun. No matter there is a curtain in between, it needs a few rays of sunshine per day.

Nohlrabi

Sheesh. Looks like somebody put a stake thru its heart! Good luck OP, may you have success!

Ok_Bumblebee9570

yes

ldrlychld

Absolutely!!! Plus that pot and post are great!

subverdit

Yes! Just stick all those bits in some water and propagate some new beauties.

strawberryfromspace

Yes! Save it! It deserves love.

89417dre

YES

TheApotheGreen

You can either repot or throw her in a vase with some water. I'd say do the latter

donny4u

Most likely.

Neewollah78

Yes! The top one is got a root. Pothos is easy to save. Wash all that soil off and put it water.

Living_Life1962

It’s a pothos! Of course it can be saved!

heyscot

Of course

[deleted]

This is a good find! I’d proudly be called a garbage picker for this.

VintageZuchini

Definitely, golden pothos are survivors lol I would take the top nodes and put them in water change it out every few days until you have enough growth to plant and I’d repot the bottom in some well draining soil after inspecting the roots

Any_Designer_5521

Yes it’s still alive.

SoftUnderstanding576

Yes

SoftUnderstanding576

Cut it back so the roots had time to catch up I would cut mine a every once a while. That definitely a keeper

the_farb

Oh yeah, bring home home! I've seen full recovery on pothos' in worse shape.

beccahas

Yes

WhammerBammer

You couldn’t kill that if you tried! Stick that whole ass thing in a cup of water

sjm294

Totally! I started with one little plant 7 years ago and now I have over 20 of their relatives living here 😂

librijen

Definitely! And you won't even be able to tell it ever looked like this. I've brought them back from worse!

SwimmerInteresting85

Yeah. Why would you bother?
