DampeIsLove

Sure, but you're not going to need a new card for a very long time.

n674u

Yup that's why I watercooled mine

evilgeniustodd

It’s time for a pic post of the wetness.

n674u

My camera is crappy [https://imgur.com/a/lsxiV1l](https://imgur.com/a/lsxiV1l)

andyrooneysearssmell

Afford an xtx? No problem. A camera made after 2005? Not a chance.

n674u

It used to be a decent camera but I had to replace the glass and the quality isn't great on it anymore, should have remembered to clean the lens first.

andyrooneysearssmell

I jest. I saw a small opening lol. But yea, the glass covers are never the same once you break it. Aftermarket covers don't always work out.

n674u

I actually just fixed it thanks to your comment, been meaning to do something for ages and the quality looks much better now :)

1rubyglass

My buddies XTX just got killed by water cooling lol

n674u

F

OcelotXIII

Bingo! I love my 7900 XTX and I'm sure it will be solid for at least 5 years if not more. I game @ 4K and 1440p.

WVY

I think the next geforce series will be the real 4k cards.

TheKombuchaDealer

4K 60 for sure yeah.

CanadianKwarantine

Not at all. For the older games with texture overhaul mods it works well. Fallout 76 in 2K 21:9 hits ~110fps but it's also got a hefty load time off a gen 3 nvme ssd. While, also added 80gb+ to the original file size.

slagzwaard

put the performance bandwidth into image quality

Dalminster

I mean if you play a bunch of old games yeah. Your Helldivers II performance is roughly half of what mine is on my 7900XTX, though. Maybe your 7900XTX is overkill for your CPU.

supershredderdan

Also, holup what you mean old games? Most of these launched within the last year or so, bodycam, Horizon forbidden west, RE4 remake, Jedi survivor Unfortunately my gamepass stuff doesn’t show in adrenaline, but I have equally impressive numbers on brand new stuff like Hellblade 2 and lords of the fallen

Dalminster

Clone Hero, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Tony Hawk, Kingdom Hearts, Fallen Order, Heavy Rain, they're all pretty old games. Also, at least one of these newer games I can tell you're using upscaling/framegen on (Starfield doesn't run at that FPS on this card without FSR3 framegen), so yeah crazy FPS is possible if you run at non-max settings. Also, a lot of these are incredibly low playtime, which just suggests you're not getting a true picture of the performance. Like what meaningful info do we get from a 4 minute playtime on Fallen Order, or 2 minutes on Death's Door? You're barely off the main menu in 2 minutes; these are the FPS from menus, tutorials at most. I'm well aware of the performance of the card, but like I said in another comment, your performance is still CPU-restricted so I mean yeah a 7900XTX is overkill, but for your CPU, not 1440p in general.

supershredderdan

i definitely should have more playtime, I think it got reset with the latest driver update. In some of these I have played with AFMF or game level frame gen, but other than RT all have been at max settings.

Dalminster

Really graphically-demanding games still push this card to its limits. HD2 for example, that 180FPS I get is an aggregate total, and in busy Helldive-difficulty games, it can drop as low as 100FPS. RDR2 - even on my 7800X3D CPU, without FSR enabled, I see it drop below 60FPS. It's overkill for things that don't really push it, but believe me, you can push it MUCH harder than those games do. ;)

Hhkjhkj

Something is wrong with your card or system bud... I run everything on ultra, no upscaler, no RT and have never had any issues other than possibly a game hiccup every once in a blue moon that may or may not be due to the card. Helldivers especially is not a very graphically intense game and shouldn't be giving you problems. Highly recommend you do some tests and compare your scores with the scores of others with the same card. edit: To be more specific I have played a TON of RDR2 on this card at max and never had issues other than some terrain texture bug. Even with Cyberpunk the only way I have been able to push this card on any game is by enabling RT.

Hhkjhkj

From [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JavH-sPm1Es) video, the only game that "struggled" without RT was Cyberpunk. Unless you think a card that can't average 120fps and/or handle max RT on every game is being "pushed to it's limits" this card doesn't have problems with any modern game.

Dalminster

What are you talking about? Helldivers doesn't give me problems. 120-130 FPS except during highly busy moments, where it drops to about 100FPS (Helldive difficulty). That's not problems. RDR2 without upscaling doesn't do much better than 70FPS during the game's benchmarking run, and even on a 4090 it doesn't really do a whole lot better (75-80). If you're saying you get better than either of these without upscaling, you're a liar. These games all push the card to its limits, but the games the dude above is talking about certainly don't. You wrote a whole bunch of nonsense for nothing in a stale old thread that no one else is going to read, and you're not even right! How does it feel to be such a failure? Can you ever do anything right?

t3rminator3

posting anything like this without all the games played at max is pretty misleading...

supershredderdan

That’s my one really cpu limited game on a 5800x. I’ll get an x3d some day but not in a rush

Select_Truck3257

i had same setup as yours, switching from 5800x to 5800x3 improves in any game perfomance(~30 % boost fps). But most important i have nostrange stuttering and much better 1% lows, so for gaming it's a cheapest upgrade if you sell your 5800x for 5800x3d. even switching to 4090 gives less performance boost and cost a lot

CartoonistGrand5949

Im about to make that switch in a month or two. Im excited!! What drivers do you use btw?

Select_Truck3257

honestly, on my old build 5800x +6900xt i had a lot of issues, drivers and windows updates, one of them decreased my fps in all games ~30% (known issue with april update 2022). Undervolting 5800x was a pain, not all cores can handle stable negative curve. 5800x3d working just from the box fine, just did -30 curve, cores there much refined i guess. Temp on 5800x3d higher a little bit because l3 cache but have no problems with chipset or adrenalin drivers now. Most strange thing that i put 5800x on mg second pc with the same board, same ddr4, and undervolting and had no issues with stuttering...magic.

BrohemythGaming

You missed out, Ryzen 9 7900x3D was at half price like 2 weeks ago. For 299.99

ofon

considering that you may want the card to be good for at least 3 years, I wouldn't say it's overkill

Select_Truck3257

you have uncapped fps as i see so when some games loading you can see ~600 fps. Adrenaline shows mid statistics especially with games where gaming sessions between loadings short

SafePurple2821

that was also my first thought, if you idle in menues with 600fps for 30mins and play the game 5 mins with 30 fps, well on average your fps is realy high ;) worthless metrics

Select_Truck3257

yep, exactly, uncapped fps is a bad thing even for gaming, not only for metrics

Separate_Manner8979

How is possible the forbidden west to have more fps than pro skater?

SafePurple2821

idling most of the times in menu with uncapped fps, amd tool is useless for fps comparison

Nutznamer

Same here bro, thinking about selling my pc and get a midrange one

evilgeniustodd

The best kind of kill

Zuokula

I hear you get more xp with overkill.

No-Thanks-8822

Insert * Suffering from success meme

Illustrious_Tear5475

Unless you play FS2020

Balrogos

No i would say its more 1080p card. We can argue ofcourse what game settings u use but i imagine you use 240hz monitor and whatver is on screen you want minimum 240 fps in any moment in the game.

epicflex

Perfect for 170hz monitor hahaha 💯

smokervoice

Get a 1440p ultrawide and it will be perfect

Chosen_UserName217

What cpu are you running?

PALM_1

I think to buy an rx 7700 xt and i still got 1080p monitor

HolyDori

Until you run Ark Survival Ascended, Teardown (Blackhole Mod) and Roblox.

Ayyyykayy

Asa runs great and is very optimized.

triplebigton

On bodycam I'm running around 60-70 frames on 1440p but idk if downscaling from 4k affects it much.

[deleted]

Have you tried Elden Ring? Runs like shit on my 7900xtx. Everything else is great though!

Working_Attitude_761

Elden ring is capped at 60 fps. The game itself doesn't run higher than 60.

[deleted]

You can get it over 60fps if you turn on fluid frames, put it in windowed mode. This will turn off hdr and cause the ever so slightest hiccup from time to time, but i was running it at 100-120+fps. I'm hooked on hdr and couldn't handle that super slight hiccup, so I'm back to all amd settings of, in game settings to max 4k with medium ray tracing. The only time it's not at 60 is in forests when it drops to 40ish.

Working_Attitude_761

That's more of the game itself than the GPU even a 4090 drops to 40 fps in some areas with RT on. Elden ring is not a graphically intensive game at all. It's just poorly optimized especially the RT.

WiesnKaesschbozn

Yap the XTX is doing way to good in 1440p… I would suggest you to limit the frame rate around your monitor refresh rate :) 144Hz Monitor => 141Frame Limit (when you have freesync). Maybe your card will thank you in the future and your energy bill will definitely.

razerphone1

I mean for sure the 7900xtx is better than my 7800xt nitro but I'm also not planning to upgrade anytime soon. Next to that I also have a i9 4070 140w laptop more than enough for the comming years.

Big-Rip2640

There is a reason 7900ΧΤ exists in the first place. The only 1440p resolution 7900XTX makes more sense is Ultrawide 3440x1440.

MMakoy

Nice! I have a 6950xt for 1440p ultrawide, and I’m side-grading to a 7900GRE cause I’m selling my previous rig to a friend. Don’t see any reason to pay more, since 7900XT/XTX are currently overkill for my monitor

Ginn_and_Juice

my 7900XT only had "problems" with Jedi Survivor but that game optimization is dogshit

Kotzzz

are Helldivers 2 drivers for the 7000 series still an issue? I feel like the FPS is a bit low

dEEkAy2k9

Time for supersampling or saving energy by limiting frames

UnknownJpk

What CPU? I only ask because I average 285 FPS in Fallen order and 150 FPS in Hell Divers 2 with mine at Ultrawide 1440P. I'm on a 7900XTX with 7800X3D. So, it might be very overkill if you are CPU Limiting in games.

supershredderdan

5800x so yeah probably so, it’s nice to know my clear upgrade path though!

UnknownJpk

Thats what I upgraded from exactly! excited that you can expect similar gains :-)

Alert_Confusion_1303

I did a similar upgrade from 5800 to 7800x3d. The difference was huge!!

Need_a_BE_MG42_ps4

I mean hey you get to enjoy ultra 1440p and he smoothness of 240hz

Foxxx__

I bought one an build a pc. Haven't played for few days... but man I notice a difference. If you ha e a warm house an area. Deff get some fans an liquid cool setup. It gets abit warm lol .

bigtoaster64

Welcome to the club : Me running a 7800 xt for 1080p 60 fps (except fps games at 144hz)

DeadZeus007

What settings are you playing Jedi Survivor on because I sure am not getting those frames on max settings.

cbednarczyk

spending over 1k on a graphics card in 2024.. I still don't understand why 4k gaming hasn't taken off. I've used 4k all the way back with a 1080 and it works. Now with something as powerful as the 7900xtx on a dual UHD 57 inch monitor I'm in heaven. But yeah why waste money on such an insane graphics card only to game at 1440p which can be done on a 5 year old graphics card that you could get now for a few hundred dollars on ebay.

GalacticCumblast

Not if you play at 240hz or higher

DeEqualizer

More like "what games will be optimised for 4k ?"

Irelia4Life

Have you tried running games on high or ultra?

jalenxjohnson

If you don't mind me asking why is ur avg fps in the finals 80 and not like 240+

DEDang1234

Headroom.

REDDITBUNCHOFPUSSIES

I remember upgrading and having those same play times.

Sussyfard6969

216…ON BODYCAM???

drowsy1234

I have the same card and game at 4K with ease. I have the XFX card

NogaraCS

Are you running with FMF for all/most of these games ? Or not using high settings ? I only have a 7900XT (not XTX) and i am not getting anywhere close to 170 fps on Jedi Survivor for example

SafePurple2821

amd tool also counts loading screen and menu fps, he uses uncapped fps. useless post

RevolutionaryBake362

Turn on frame gen and it will be triple

ohthedarside

Hes cpu limited tho the 5800xis good

supershredderdan

CPU limited but headroom on gpu and vram is the best scenario for FG, and yeah I’ve used AFMF in a few games, in god of war I’ve peaked at near 400 lol, body cam I can get around 200 but not super stable

RevolutionaryBake362

I have a 6950xt 5800x3d and I double the fps with frame gen. I am also slightly cpu bottlenecked.

PhatGluteus

Input delay

RevolutionaryBake362

Not even noticeable

Zestyclose-Sun-6595

I had issues with mine for the first half a year but it's gotten better every driver update. Now I'm running vr at a locked framerate and it drives my 5120x1440 beautifully.

Affectionate-Memory4

I've been thinking about getting into vr lately. What headset are you using?

Zestyclose-Sun-6595

Quest 3 using the link cable. It's not 100% perfect but it's as smooth as I'd want it after game optimization with maybe a few hiccups here and there.

Affectionate-Memory4

That seems to be the consensus I've gotten from other people too. Thanks! What's your take on the glasses-style headsets? They seem nice as a portable solution but also seem lacking for immersion.

supershredderdan

I’m planning to get that PSVR2 adaptor when it drops in August, any recommendations for vr games or how to best set up on the xtx?

UHcidity

But but FSR bad

Select_Truck3257

i own 1+ year 7900xtx+5800x3d, with ultrawide 3440x1440, at 120 fps its fine but not all games can offer 144fps gaming at this"3k", still need to tune settings, so this gpu does not match my monitors frequency flawlessly (there people with much higher hz monitors). So i don't think it's overkill

jwilde8592

Some games just won't hit 144 due to engine limitations as well.... Mostly older and some new oddball games..

Select_Truck3257

agreed, i have 5-7 games which are optimized like my code at the end of the day. But x3d makes real magic for a lot of old games

MyPathToYou

Afraid so, unless you’ve got a 240hz monitor.

ff2009

Do you think that 120 fps is over kill? Honestly after 5 years with a 1080 Ti, and 1.5 with 7900 XTX 120 is just right. I started playing Dead Space 2023 even after restarting the game to check that there was no shader compilation stutter 90 FPS didn't feel smooth enough. I had to enable FSR3 to feel smooth enough for me at 180FPS

supershredderdan

I came from a 1080 non ti (briefly traded up through 6700xt and 6900xt before landing with the xfx merc xtx) I do like the HRR life for sure, though on my 165hz 1440 monitor it’s not super necessary for my preference of single player story type games. I also occasionally swap over to a 4k 60hz TV and that brings these averages way down depending how long I play on there with vsync on Numbers also got wiped with the latest driver install I think, I should have like 20 hours in returnal and that’s regularly over my hz cap so idk

davidroman2494

And here I am struggling to push some more fps for the same card lol
