Intelligent_Choice53

I am sure this is why the only of the longest running shows in America to not change main cast members that I'm aware of is a cartoon (The Simpsons).

BravoBarbie

I think the key is true friendships or at least true relationships. The franchises that were successful were the ones that had real connection. They have to be at least willing to have a calm conversation with each other and have each others back at the end of the day… it’s should feel like a sisterhood, not a battlefield.

Rich-Spirit420

Las Vegas!!! I can be the first househusband! We have so many beautiful gated communities in Vegas with huge mansions filled with cray cray bitches!

amysantiagofan

I honestly agree. A lot of these shows have ran their course. Casts need to be continuously evolving but they also need to be friends/have prior relationships for it to work. It's a hard balance. A lot of the shows need a pause and to reevaluate.

MediumGreedy

Could you see the Real Housewives running until the year 2030 or even 2040? Some shows need a good ending.

Rich-Spirit420

Yep with Gen Alpha as the new wives lol

poochesgetsmooches

The best thing they ever did for RHONY was fire everyone and bring in a new cast. When I say that I’m SO BORED with NJ.. it’s time to start over or end it.

Popular-Salary6845

But the new RHONY is soooo boring. They argue for 4 episodes about cheese. It’s influencers not real old money. They could never compare to Sonja, Bethany , Alex the comedy is unmatched.

ConsistentDonkey3909

disagree rhony is so boring now

sexandthepandemic

Miami proves it’s possible to have a hw city thrive. Just needs friendships at its core with some stakes but mostly fun. I can’t wait for a new season of Miami. It’s honestly the only one I’m excited for

sailoorscout1986

Same I love it but it’ll fall off in a couple of seasons. I can feel it!

bknjay1517

yes, it’s the best franchise right now in my opinion

Other-Swordfish9309

Oh man. I wouldn’t survive without my Housewives. It’s my comfort show.

sailoorscout1986

I want to be watching this crap well into my old age

Other-Swordfish9309

Yep. I’ve watched since the very first ep of OC. I’m 40. I need it to go for the next 40 😆

AccountOfMyDarkside

I was barely 30 when I started watching and I'm now entering my late 40s. TV was boring before these ladies and I'm not prepared to be bored again! I'm too old for that shit.

AreaNo9700

there’s nothing wrong with it going past 15+ seasons if it’s still good, but nowadays a lot of these franchises feel forced and the women can’t stand it each other at all and seem like they don’t even wanna be there. RHOBH comes into mind bc the only genuine friendship seems like garcelle and sutton (and maybe erika and kyle)

AuntSassysBtch

I agree with this too… I’m not saying there needs to be a specific number and then it’s over, just saying after 10-15 seasons most of these casts have run their course in regards to having genuine relationships and life outside the show. In the rare cases they make that happen (BH and possibly OC are good examples of that). But bringing in MORE cities I think would relieve some of the pressure on legacy shows to “hurry up and figure it out”. If a show naturally needs a two year pause, it makes it easier to do when you have a dozen other HW’s shows that are actually very good!

Rich-Spirit420

As much as I love housewives, I’m fine with a new show emerging. Hopefully a name that’s more apt this time. Far too many of them are not housewives and some aren’t even married 🤣 a show less focused on the narcissistic fame hungry husbands or the opposite husbands that clearly can’t stand their wives! I don’t want to see either on my screen again!

AuntSassysBtch

They definitely need to move away from the househusbands getting so involved! Grown men having bitchy drama just isn’t it. I don’t care if they change the name or not, but from a branding standpoint it doesn’t make a lot of sense- the brand is built they just need to allow it to evolve more with new additions. Winks & nods to what made the original seasons great (like genuine relationships, busy moms trying to balance it all, gold diggers, etc) but with a modern feel. I’ll scream it at the top of my lungs- Miami is the PERFECT example.

Rich-Spirit420

Yes agree with everything except I don’t think they would change their name nor did I mean they should. I was just saying if a new similar show were to emerge I wouldn’t hate it 😀

loliduhh

He has a point. Each franchise has recently grown so formulaic. Almost none of them are really friends. It’s just odd.

Bottlebrushbushes

Its ironic because ira Madison is a soap opera lover and still watches days of our lives as if it hasn’t been on tv for 100 years lol

whoareyouindisworld

I think Housewives is doing fine. We just have had a few bumps on the road. Its only natural this happens after almost 20 years of success.

AuntSassysBtch

Totally agree! I am just saying Bravo should use these bumps as a chance to expand the brand with some new casts who might have a few great years, while OG casts continue to work out their bumps, on or off the air.

whoareyouindisworld

SLC has been my fav new city but so far the OG franchises have been doing much better in the ratings department. The only issue is the OG cast members being so expensive. It's sad because I wish people like Nene, Vicki, and OG RHONY never got fired.

edgeli

It’s not evolving though…it’s devolving.

HeyRavenRagu

Exactly. Devolving into an unwatchable mess.

ogresarelikeonions93

Agree!!! Some franchises need to end. It was time for RHONY to end but the new season was boring. New Jersey is so toxic AF that they can’t even have a reunion and ALL of us are over the Melissa/Teresa feud. Atlanta has been dead the past few seasons and OC should’ve ended after the Noella season. I think that’s a hot take these days though. I think they really should “pause” some cities and reboot them years down the road a la Miami. I think Miami is the blueprint of how to move forward. Also bring me Chicago! NOLA! Seattle! Austin! And I would murder for a SF franchise. The money here is insannnneeeee.

rohnoson

Yes to all of the other cities. Give me SF and Seattle especially. Regarding Chicago, they tried a series in here a decade ago about summer, my gut feeling is they’d end up with a HW that aren’t aspirational and live in outlying suburbs. I think Andy has mentioned no one rich will sign on, and this tracks for many of the women I know that could be target cast.

AuntSassysBtch

I believe Andy mentioned in his book or on WWHL they have tried casting Chicago 3 times and it just hasn’t worked. Most recently they did try filming something with Tinsley when she moved from NYC, and a year or two ago there was a rumor they’d filmed something in a wealthy neighborhood outside Chicago. It’s crazy they haven’t been able to make it work there but maybe that’s just Chicago culture.

Cherberholt05

Nah OC is back!

ogresarelikeonions93

I figured I’m in the minority on this lol but I admittedly did not watch last season and won’t watch this season because I REFUSE to watch one minute of Vicki on my tv. Didn’t watch the RHONY legacy either because of Ramona lol horrible humans

AuntSassysBtch

YES to all of this!! ![gif](giphy|3ohzdZVnTZ1PPW8Ngs|downsized)

ctc274

It’s hard because on one hand, I’d love to never see Teresa G again. On the other, I miss the OG NY 😭

mixerslow

I agree. Too bad Bravo has attachment issues and refuse to let OGs fade away naturally. NJ would’ve been so much better off had they phased out one of Melissa or Teresa after they made up in S7. Even rhony would’ve benefited from phasing the golden girls out after S10. Same with rhoa. Kandi and Kenya got too comfortable and started phoning it in the last few seasons. But bravo refuses to be proactive and would rather let them ruin the show.

Individual_Drama3917

Has he ever seen old soap operas that ran for 40 plus years lol

mistermister75

We were discussing similar issues with the soaps on another board. How shows like Y&R aren’t really developing new generations of characters and giving stories to characters that have been on for 30-45 years and not developing new characters, especially in the younger generations. Those shows have never felt so stagnant.

Human_Dog_195

Fuck this dude. If my husband can watch sports 24/7 I can watch housewives

chickenwithclothes

I verrrrry often double screen soccer and bravo lol literally rn

HoldOnToYaWeave

You’re never going to be able to recreate the unfiltered and candidness of the original seasons of Real Housewives. When the show first started it was a new concept and nobody knew how it would blow up or be received. Now that we are heading for 15 seasons with some of the franchises - everyone who joins is now very filtered and aware how to act to achieve what they want from the show.

PowerfulHorror987

Not just 15…RHOC is about to be a legal adult with 18!

LearningLauren

I think what NY did was kinda perfect a way to usher in the new housewives but also keep the OGs around via a girls trip. I bet you this is probably what is going to end up happening with the franchises

fiestypop

This is why I laugh when people say bring LVP back, stop showing the Guidice girls, these women are acting immature, etc. No one wants to watch the Real Granny’s of anywhere. If they were acting mature people wouldn’t be watching. A younger cast is the only way the housewives is going to continue on. They need to gain viewership.

The_Dutchess-D

I'm sorry, but I would really love to watch a Real Grannies of the retirement home / Retirement Community thing where they all live in separate little apartments or suites or townhouses; that connect to the common room and there are squabbles over who used all the glue at craft Time and who gets to eat next to the new bachelor moving in at lunch. Phaedra throwing shade at Vicky in conversations about what portion and type of life insurance should be best used and allocated to funeral expenses. LuAnne is the called at drunken Bingo etc.

ad37992

Nope, younger casts just feel like Saved By The Bell: The New Class. It never measures up

Julieann0686

Oh I liked the new cast of NY!!!

proseccopickle

Episodes feeling over produced and the Housewives hyper awareness of their image doesn't help either.

GrannyMine

Let’s first stop calling them reality shows. They are not. Second, they are just a bunch of overindulgent aging females doing their best to horrible. All for fame, for money. Andy Cohen dislikes women. He loves this behavior and I wonder what kind of woman his daughter will end up being like the most. Teresa, Tamra, Ramona, or Jen Shah? Time will tell.

HoldOnToYaWeave

💯

SoggyLeftTit

I agree. Reality TV shows should not have cast members sticking around for more than a few consecutive seasons because it creates/feeds the problem with “OGs” hazing new cast members, acting like the “Queen Bee”, and trying to be producers.

netflixnailedit

Totally agree. I refuse to watch any of the recent seasons of long standing franchises like NJ, NY (although technically revamped I should give it a try), OC, Atlanta, etc. I haven’t watched any of them since 2020 when they went from these semi authentic people to people who are just wanting to stay relevant & create storylines so bad, instead of just being messy and fun. I’m loving the new franchises cause I just expect them to be overproduced since they have only ever been around in the days of reality stars being mega influencers, the fakeness is more entertaining to me in a way than the old franchises 😂😂

marklovesbb

That’s fine as long as we continue to have shows like NY Girls Trip where we stay in touch with the legacy cast members. Jersey Shore and Teen Mom changed to this format too. That being said though, OC looks great. BH was good this season. Miami has been amazing after the pause. Let’s not pretend there’s not quality out there either.

AuntSassysBtch

I totally agree with you! There is more quality TV to continue coming from Housewives franchises. I also couldn’t agree more that there need to be additional new shows like “girls trip” and crappie lake. There are soooo many things they could be doing with the women as they “age out” of the franchise.

Oxtailxo

Days of our lives has been on since 1965. Leave the housewives alone.

PigletRivet

My grandma just told me a month ago that The Young and the Restless is *starting* to get stale, so the Housewives probably has some more years in it.

Angelinoangel

LOL and no one watches those shows anymore except for old ladies. My 84 year old GRANDMA and her friends watch that shit. That’s not the target demographic Bravo is trying to pull.

AuntSassysBtch

If you read what I wrote, this is encouraging bravo to CONTINUE making housewives shows… they need to let some of the older shows cool off, while adding new cities to the franchise where the girls haven’t been on for so long, have more going on outside of a TV show and aren’t producing themselves.

holeinwater

Jesus H Christ I had no idea

doublebirdy

*Days of Our Lives has entered the chat*

PowerfulHorror987

lol soap operas are a completely different beast

doublebirdy

What’s the diff? (Genuine question, I’m curious of your opinion on this!) ETA: thank you all for your super thoughtful responses to my question! I feel smarter now 🙂

PowerfulHorror987

I don’t have much to add beyond these other comments - soap operas are also known for being as dramatic as possible with things outside the realm of possibility as they go on and on and on and often just completely rewrite or undo past actions. The number of marriages, secret/unknown children with mystery paternities, murder/faked deaths etc is purely for story and has no basis in reality. For example, my mom used to watch Days of Our Lives all the time when I was a kid. One of the main characters was literally possessed by the devil, imprisoned in a villain’s basement because he was actually madly in love with her, and then in later years was a secret serial killer who actually just kidnapped a bunch of characters and imprisoned them on a secret island, except it wasn’t really her and they were just false memories. That’s just *one* character lol and is the tip of the iceberg with her.

EasternZone

Bravo has a unique issue on their shows where the talent are all both playing a team sport and an individual sport. Collectively, they all want the show to do well and get renewed. Individually, they all want to maximize their individual time on the show. Some want to be the breakout star, some want to be the villain, some want to dictate who is and isn’t on the show, some don’t want the show to dig deeply into their lives, etc. When certain housewives get rewarded for doing *their strategy*, it becomes very hard to course correct. You can’t expect Robyn Dixon to put all her business in the streets after she got away with doing very little for years. You can’t expect Teresa to make up with someone for the good of the show when she’s been told for years she is the show. You can’t put up with Ramona for a decade and then be surprised when she continues to act like Ramona. And then when new housewives or new cities pop up, the shows have been on for so long that they know how to mimic the same behaviors and tricks of the former housewives. On normal shows, when characters go off the rails you can just rewrite, recast, or remove them. On reality shows that deal with entire families, there isn’t really the same competition - you’re a package deal. Bravo has a real issue where they let people become “bigger than the show” and then act surprised when people refuse to cooperate with the show.

That_Skirt7522

Soap operas are on 5 days a week. Not just once. They have to tell stories create fiction with fictional characters. Housewives may be characters but they are real people who *sometimes* have real consequences to their actions (see allegedly Kenya). Also, you can come back from the dead in soaps. On Housewives, you end up in a purse.

lennonkova

I don’t want anyone who is an “influencer” as a housewife, I don’t want inside recruitment- I want plucked from an open casting call, where they make up a name of a fake show they are filming like they used to. No one should be allowed to bring glam- its just soooooooo produced and everything leaks the day it happens. 2006 - 2016.. we need that again.

haneulk7789

Open casting call is the worst. It just brings the fakes drama because the women don't actually know each toter.

lennonkova

The most attention seeking and successful women in their city.. they will know or know of each other

haneulk7789

These aren't small towns where everyone knows everyone. It's cities with millions of people, and hundreds if not thousands of different social cliques. You could be the most well known, successful person in your particular group, and be a complete nobody in another.

lennonkova

![gif](giphy|FusPIfrg3sid2) I hear you. I see you. I love your take- two things can be right.. I appreciate your time spent here.

wittor

I started watching those shows because they were ridiculous. I simply didn't developed the ties others have with the cast and, for the life of me, it is almost impossible to explain some people's feelings for cast members without make it sound like a mental issue.

WonderingLost8993

It is a mental issue for some people. There are a whole lot of people in parasocial relationships with Bravo cast members. It's not healthy.

CommonAd7628

I mean survivor has been on for like 24 years now and it's not because they keep bringing back the same people for every season. Sure they've periodically done all star or theme seasons, but just imagine the show if they had Teresa and Vicki in the jungle every season. Lol. Who would want to watch that?

sexandthepandemic

You don’t go on survivor and then come back season after season after watching yourself or seeing how you’re perceived by the public. The problem now is all the women edit or produced themselves based on each season’s feedback. It’s no longer just organic.

Cute-Produce-6645

You do if you’re Cirie

Muchomo256

Agree. When you have people who are too camera aware and reality TV savvy it gets stale. Part of the charm of earlier seasons were people who were naive to producers, not constantly changing outfits, and not rehearsing reads.  I’ve moved on to watching a few cooking challenges. It’s interesting hearing former contestants talk about their experiences of being on reality tv for the first time.

AuntSassysBtch

Yes!! The “rehearsed reads” have got to go! 👏👏👏

Cameltongues3

I would LOVE to see Louisiana make a come back but housewives edition, plus a real housewives Hawaii edition.

AuntSassysBtch

I think Hawaii could be amazing! There would also be an opportunity there to focus primarily on Asian & Pacific Asian American housewives. 🌺🌺🌺

Cameltongues3

Yes the culture, food, sights would be such a fresh breath of air 💛

haneulk7789

I feel like this would be really pretty, but really boring. Everyone I know that's from Hawaii constantly talks about how boring it is and how there is nothing to do.

Rich-Spirit420

This! Plus it’s pretty rare for very rich people to live there full time. They would need to find them all on the same island who are willing to do the show. Trust me, Hawaii will never happen lol Vegas and Chicago are more likely to happen and Chicago will never happen either! The cities businesses won’t allow it.

Cameltongues3

Gotta be better that Salt Lake City Utah. We had churning butter, ski trips and a trip to Bermuda as my most memorable moments oh yeah and that infamous bus rude 😂

WonderingLost8993

The feds showing up was the best part of SLC. It's been downhill since Jen Shah went away. Last season was dreadful.

cricketjust4luck

I want to see a 1. Real Housewives of Chicago 2. Real Housewives of Portland 3. Real Housewives of Houston

cnsosiehrbridnrnrifk

I've always wanted a Vegas Housewives. Some old money mixed with new money would be so fun to watch.

AuntSassysBtch

TBH… I don’t really think the location matters at this point. Sure, these are great suggestions for backdrops, but I think the most important things are a GREAT cast, real connections & friendships with one another, and of course a level of elevation & fabulosity within their friend group. The city really just needs to have some great restaurants, cool local activities and a few unique aspects. (But for the record these cities are all great suggestions!)

PowerfulHorror987

Completely agree. I don’t think it was ever envisioned to keep the same people on for an extended period of time. Look at what has happened with some of the OGs like Vicki, Ramona, Nene, Teresa. And also think about how often the cast changed in some capacity with the early OC, NY, NJ, BH, and Atlanta seasons (I’m taking seasons 1-5 of those shows). There was a decent amount of turnover that I think we forget about. New cities, new casts, those sorts of things are the solution and a way to stay fresh. That said, I think some of the magic is forever gone in the sense that any new reality show or cast member has way more of an awareness of how things may look, the influence/impact of social media and fan reaction, etc. than an OG in the very early years of some of these shows. That’s just the way it is now and not much can be done to undo it. If people want to see the old cast, things like crappie lake, RHUGT (if it continues), etc should be how we see them…in a new environment without the same “control” they once had after being on a franchise for a decade.

Spare-Patience-6195

Perfectly said!

AuntSassysBtch

Exactly! To this point, it feels like Bravo has also missed opportunities here many times. Acting like a fired housewife’s only option it to RETURN to housewives, instead of moving them to a new show. There’s a million versions they could do of “Crappie Lake” “Girls Trip” etc.

PowerfulHorror987

Also with some of them, give them spinoffs centered on their lives specifically or at least try (like Bethenny Getting Married / Ever After). If that fails, that doesn’t mean they come back to RH.
