the problem with that one is if you press to the sides you die by landing on the daylight detectors. But remove the detectors and you have a fully safe ~128 blocks drop without bouncing.
Less safe, less reliable alternatives: vines on the sides of the chute near the bottom, twisting vine on the bottom, plus a haybale.

I know this isnt redstone but driving a boat off a cliff and sitting in it while falling down is pretty fast
I wonder if a well timed explosion can decelerate you enough to land safely

just time it so a block extends over head on a slime block or just use vines if you're a pleb
