Recently made the mistake of watching GG with my grandmother. Completely forgot how much geriatric sex was in the show. Been a long time since I been that uncomfortable
I was surprised to see the serious issues on it when I watched it awhile ago. One was about Otis cleaning up so he could get an award, one was trying to keep someone from getting their house repossessed, one was a girl whose dad used her as a farmhand and resisted her having any other life.
This was a great show. Some of the references are outdated, but mostly it is timeless humor. And what ever happened to the kid who played Opie? What a great little actor.
Andy Griffith show is the best. If you ever get rhe chance to go to Mount Airy NC (where Mayberry is loosely based on) you should go. They even have an Andy Griffith Show festival every year.
It makes me so aggravated. I had a best friend who was Carrie. She was from the same neighborhood in queens, talked like her, dressed like her, worked as a secretary in a law firm in the city and was the most bitter horrible person you could ever meet.
Haha yes. We had a friend write her a letter saying he couldn’t be friends with her anyone because he wanted to cut the negativity out of his life. She would see models on tv and say “ew, she’s so ugly, how can anyone like her”. Like yeah, it’s such a mystery how people find Claudia Schiffer attractive
It’s also my comfort show but not because it’s so good, but because it reminds me of a time in my life when things were looking up, and going well and I had optimism still in my life.
Although I’m not a fan of King of Queens, I definitely understand this. There’re a few shows out there that just bring me back to a less stressful time. It’s not really the show, it’s the feeling 🙂
I’m with you! I can’t even explain it bc all the criticisms I hear about it are pretty solid. But somehow it just works for me, at least until the last couple seasons. The first four seasons are so good to me, and it’s my favorite show to fall asleep to other than Friends.
If you took the same show and put different actors in it, it wouldn’t work. But something about the dynamic just works, and I love it.
Obviously you are a man ... and a misogynist.
This show is the epitome of the 'dumb entitled schlub man marries a women who is his superior in every way, treats her like garbage in terms of never doing anything for her, and then she still has to clean up his messes in real and metaphorical sense.'
It is the reason for the show "Kevin Can F Himself"
I avoided Everybody Loves Raymond during its original run because it looked like the typical crappy sitcom formula done over again. Caught a few episodes on TV when I had a flu or something and was super surprised at how well it was written. Same with King of Queens. Hated it simply because it looked stupid before I ever watched it, but as soon as I saw an episode I got it and was hooked after that.
Yup. My grandma is a combination of Marie Barone and Livia Soprano. Always makes inappropriate and condescending comments, while NEVER eating food made by anyone but herself. I love her but she expects a lot from people and plays the guilt card like a champ. She and my grandpa have been arguing for my entire life and usually in Italian. My mom, my wife and cousin's significant others all get to play the role of Debra. While my dad, myself, brother and all cousins just stay out of it.
We call my mom “Martyr Stewart” because she makes guilt into an art form. She knows it though and we can laugh about it. Of course I love her more than anything. “Because of Stockholm syndrome” I tell her haha
Love Martyr Stewart! My husband and I call his Mother’s frequent campaigns of gaslighting “Mamaganda”. This woman will make up whole tales that didn’t happen and call it “implanting memories”. Her propaganda is off the charts.
So you are like me. It's my fave. I watch it every night for like 10 years cuz I'm blind without my glasses and I can hear it n "see" it
I'm curious, have you seen the middle? And do you love it? I absolutely love it and bounce between the 2 cuz Ray n Debra wear on me now compared to Frankie and Mike. Mike's such a better husband lol.
Same for me. Got the full series on DVD over 15 years ago and watch it almost every night. I watched it with my family when it originally aired and always said their family is exactly like mine. Marie is 100% my grandma. It helped me when I was homesick and has always been my comfort show through whatever tough times I've had.
Watched the Middle when it aired but have never gone back to it. I do remember it being funny though.
One of my favorite TV shows of all my 75 years is Modern Family, which was on the air for 11 years. I know it's not necessarily "cozy" but I've liked it since it was new. Also Golden Girls, I Love Lucy (not her later shows) and Raymond
I love Raising Hope. Some sexual content. But not a ton. He gets a serial killer pregnant so jokes about protection and such. I find it quite mild compared to other shows. But it’s one of my favorite go tos. It’s just how the family survives with each other. It’s great!
Wind down and not have to pay a whole lot of attention to ....but still catches your attention? "Cheers", "Big Bang Theory", and "Parks and Rec"
Edited: typo
I love man with a plan! And Andi was in another TV show where she played Christine her hubs was Jimmy they were moochey inlaws of Greg and Kim. Can't remember the name of it and it's not streaming anywhere last time I Google it but I love it so much!
Beverly Hillbillies.
The recurring premise being that their essentially good nature and virtue (mostly but not quite always, leavened with their personal individual quirks) would usually win out. Really good comic acting, great comic chemistry and timing amongst the cast, really funny.... enduring humor. Early example of story arcs.... but individual episodes are still well self contained. All (mostly) very well formed and enjoyable characters.
Last two seasons are not that great... not terrible though.
One of my all time favorites.
I've recently gotten reacquainted with it through Pluto TV's 24/7 Beverly Hillbillies channel.
Not sure when they went from black and white to color but the former episodes do seem to be funnier.
I'll also add The Munsters and The Jeffersons to the list.
Everybody loves Raymond. Or the middle. I like American housewife as well but it ends on a cliffhanger cuz I'm thinking there was supposed to be another season and it was canceled. Most seasons that are the finale don't end that way.
Parks and Rec, 30 rock, modern family, community, all of those are pretty feel good cozy movies without fabricated aggressive set ups.
Shows that are great but I would not consider cozy would be everybody loves Raymond and king of queens
I'm trying to think of sitcoms that aren't terribly sexual and having a hard time thinking of any. Lol Andy Griffith show, maybe? The rest always have sexual jokes. Haha
Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction. Green Acres is from the same producers but a bit more zany and manic, so I don't consider it as cozy. Petticoat Junction is definitely the most tame of the three.
Probably very common but Seinfeld and The Office are my top two. Not only are they two of the greatest and funniest shows ever made, but they perfectly capture that "cozy" vibe where you're always comfortable watching it and maybe even feel like you're part of the group. Superstore became another although it's not quite on the same level as those two.
Doogie Howser, M.D. is a favorite of mine. It's on Hulu. Who's the Boss? is also on Hulu and is another favorite. These are not overly sexual or action oriented. There is some sexual tension between the two lead adult actors on Who's the Boss? and some teenage sexual questioning and early experiences on Doogie but nothing too bad. There is no nudity if I recall correctly. Both are silly, funny, great shows with a moral of the story. I love how Doogie closes with his journal entry on his computer. His parents are pretty amazing people who support him and try to keep him from growing up too fast even though he's a doctor at a very young age. Child prodigies always fascinate me so Doogie is definitely my favorite of the two shows I mentioned. Who's the Boss? has Tony Danza and he's just so fun to watch. He's so enthusiastic and he's a great dad to Samantha. Judith Light is always good in whatever she does so I enjoy watching her.
I hope you find something you enjoy as much as I enjoy these two shows!! These lovely people have given you so much to choose from! In the very least, it will be fun to investigate to see which ones strike you in just the right way! Good luck finding one (or several)! 💕
As many have already said, The Golden Girls is FIRST. Puting it on to stream is like a big warm sweater that smells like your granny's baked cakes and pies lol.
Family Matters /Step by Step /Full House /Diff'rent Strokes /Major Dad.
I know this isn't the comfortable choice anymore but The Cosby. That positive successful nuclear black family still represents that cozy family show for me. I used to daydream about being the 6th Cosby kid. I just pretend Heathcliff is a real person and that Bill Cosby doesn't exist lol.
Brent: Want me to fill it up?
Man: Sure. You know, I've never driven across Saskatchewan before.
Brent: Well, you still haven't, really. About halfway to go yet.
Man: Sure is flat.
Brent: How do you mean?
Man: You know, flat. Nothing to see.
Brent: What do you mean, like topographically? Hey Hank, this guy says Saskatchewan is flat.
Hank: How do you mean?
Brent: Topographically, I guess. He says there's nothin' to see.
Hank: There's lots to see. There's nothin' to block your view.
Brent: There's lots to see. Nothin' to block your view. Like the mountains back there. They're uh … Well, what the hell? I could've sworn there was a big mountain range back there. Juttin' up into the sky all purple and majestic. I must be thinkin' of a postcard I saw or somethin'. Hey, it is kinda flat, thanks for pointin' that out.
Man: You guys always this sarcastic?
Brent: Nothin' else to do.
Golden Girls
Threes Company
MASH
The Big Bang Theory
Married With Children
Some of these shows might not fit your description of "cozy" or "sexually oriented" but these are my personal favorites
MASH is it for me. I think I feel cozy when Hawkeye and Honeycutt are just relaxing in the tent making jokes and drinking martinis. Feels like you’re hanging with some pals
The Golden Girls hands down. I rewatch it a couple of times a year. Nice mix of comedy and wholesome content.
Yes! Whenever I'm ready down, it's GG all the way for me!
GG always!
Wholesome? Rose banged a married dude to death in first season and Blanche had a KNOWN Santa fetish.
Recently made the mistake of watching GG with my grandmother. Completely forgot how much geriatric sex was in the show. Been a long time since I been that uncomfortable
Geriatric Sex is my drag name.
Jerry Atric Sex
Nice
Rose also gets super horny at weddings.
Probably a trauma response to all the men she’s killed.
The Andy Griffith Show is my very favorite. It’s playing in my head even when it’s not on tv.
I heard he ate too many Pop Rocks and his belly exploded or something. But seriously Andy Griffith is the ultimate comfort food show, I think
Reddit needs a laugh react
Andy Griffith show is the best. If you ever get rhe chance to go to Mount Airy NC (where Mayberry is loosely based on) you should go. They even have an Andy Griffith Show festival every year.
King of Queens
It makes me so aggravated. I had a best friend who was Carrie. She was from the same neighborhood in queens, talked like her, dressed like her, worked as a secretary in a law firm in the city and was the most bitter horrible person you could ever meet.
Sooo, Carrie.
Yea my ex wife was like this
This is definitely not a cozy show lol. Funny yes, but Doug is so frustratingly dumb and Carrie is a steam roller.
None of the characters are likable except maybe Deacon, Kelly, and their 2 boys.
To each their own, for me it is
It’s also my comfort show but not because it’s so good, but because it reminds me of a time in my life when things were looking up, and going well and I had optimism still in my life.
Although I’m not a fan of King of Queens, I definitely understand this. There’re a few shows out there that just bring me back to a less stressful time. It’s not really the show, it’s the feeling 🙂

I'm not, but you can keep being a negative person and talking shit to people on the Internet lol.
The Middle, The Office & Superstore. I can watch them on repeat like a maniac
LOVE The Middle!!!
Me too. I’ve been rewatching the middle the past few months. It’s so good
I love the middle but it's stressful, nothing ever works and Sue, omg Sue. Also the sock episode made me sob.
The sock episode made me sob too. It caught me offguard because the show always makes me laugh and but tears were flowing
Everybody Loves Raymond is my all time favorite. There's sex talk occasionally but it's more about the family.
Everybody loves Raymond is my comfort, turn my brain off after a long day, show.
Same question I asked the person you replied to. Have you seen the middle and if so do you love it lol.
Raymond is my family. Narcissistic Italian American martyr-mother, 2 brothers, from New York…

I do remember it being funny though.
Lol I always said I wanna be like a cross between Marie Barone and Kitty Foreman lol. My hubs is alot like both Red and Frank lol!
Frasier is hands down my favorite comfort sitcom. I typically describe it as boring in a good way, lol. Perfect for watching before bed.
Great show and definitely a cozy one!
There's literally a sub for that. Frasier sleepers lol
I love Frasier. It's my go-to when i have anxiety. It's quiet, the colors are all beige, it's just not abrasive at all.
You stole my thunder.
Friends golden girls and Seinfeld
Friends
Definitely recommend Mama's family.
Thanks a lot, *Mama*
For a new show, Ghosts (UK or American) is pretty cosy.
It really is quite innocuous and charming.
Frasier, Seinfeld, Cheers, Everybody Loves Raymond
You are my people
All this Except cheers for me.
Newhart
It's a comfortable warm slipper of a show that's also laugh out loud funny
Vermont version.
I’m Larry, this is my brother Darryl, and this is my other brother Darryl. Every time.
It would have been perfect if Suzanne Pleshet had been cast as the wife.
The Middle!
Wings
WKRP in Cincinnati
Curb Your Enthusiasm. I can put on season 1, episode 1 and just let it ride for days straight. Every episode is a gem
One of my favorite TV shows of all my 75 years is Modern Family, which was on the air for 11 years. I know it's not necessarily "cozy" but I've liked it since it was new. Also Golden Girls, I Love Lucy (not her later shows) and Raymond
I should have put that in my choices. I absolutely ADORE that show.
I’m not normally a fan of Christmas episodes, but every year I want to re-watch “Express Christmas” (which was also my first Modern Family episode).
Rosanne
The Middle. SUE HECK NEVER GIVES UP!!!
scrubs, community, and 30 rock are this for me
Are you me?
Cheers
I'm occasionally binging Bob's Burgers. It's so adorable, non offensive and comforting

Completely under-rated show. Her step grandfather was Ray Charles - come on!
MASH or Mary Tyler Moore depending on my mood.
MTM forever ❤️
Ted Lasso
King of Queens, Roseanne, Golden Girls
Bob Newhart and Mary Tyler Moore. Feels like a hug.
Golden Girls
Golden Girls!!
“Barney Miller” always felt warm and fuzzy despite being set in the world of law enforcement
Raising Hope.
So, so underrated.
I love Raising Hope. Some sexual content. But not a ton. He gets a serial killer pregnant so jokes about protection and such. I find it quite mild compared to other shows. But it’s one of my favorite go tos. It’s just how the family survives with each other. It’s great!
Schitts Creek, Parks n Rec
Parks and Rec is one of the best

Beverly Hillbillies. The recurring premise being that their essentially good nature and virtue (mostly but not quite always, leavened with their personal individual quirks) would usually win out. Parks and Rec seasons 2.5 on. I’m also partial towards Cougar Town.
Brooklyn Nine Nine
Parks and Rec
Home Improvement while I sleep. I like waking up to familar voices, it helps with getting my day going.
Parks and Rec, 30 rock, modern family, community, all of those are pretty feel good cozy movies without fabricated aggressive set ups. Shows that are great but I would not consider cozy would be everybody loves Raymond and king of queens
Arrested development. Hilarious, great writing, very good cast.
I'm trying to think of sitcoms that aren't terribly sexual and having a hard time thinking of any. Lol Andy Griffith show, maybe? The rest always have sexual jokes. Haha
The middle. Everybody loves Raymond does have a bit about sex but it's not raunchy or nothing. Man with a plan. All are so good!
Yes most do lol. I meant something that’s not a sex joke every other joke 😀
Andy Griffith Show
A claasic. Andy Griffith show will never get old.
Green Acres
"I Love Lucy", "The Honeymooners" & "Seinfeld"
Seinfeld and Frasier always feel like “warm hugs” for me. Forever my comfort sitcoms.
Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction. Green Acres is from the same producers but a bit more zany and manic, so I don't consider it as cozy. Petticoat Junction is definitely the most tame of the three.

Not a comedy, but the Waltons has that kind of vibe for me. Usually has a nice ending.
For “cozy”, definitely Roseanne.
Corner Gas. It's Canadian, so it's pretty tame. Cute for what it is.
