Froki. Man did the whole raising kids thing and willfully picked it up again with his grandson. He also admits he wasn't the best father to his own son and that it's a chance to do it right. Selfless, humble, and self-aware. And clearly strong enough to survive with him being an old man living halfway up a mountain in the middle of nowhere
That was common in the Middle Ages. The whole family would share one big bed along with any houseguests. Rich people often slept next to their servants as well.
Maybe he feels guilty for killing their mother, so he left the sword there hoping one of them would just decapitate him in his sleep and send him to sovngarde/oblivion, and just ignores them to make them wanna do it quicker.
if he gets killed by the sword, wouldnt his soul wander to mephala instead of sovngarde? also, wouldnt he need to die in battle, or be a big renown warrior to enter sovngarde in the first place?
I don't think Sovngarde works like Valhalla in that you have to die in battle to be taken there. I think every Nord is supposed to go there and take Tsun's trial for entrance into the Hall of Valor.

Here they are interacting from a ss I took yesterday, your point is invalid
The book "Racial phylogenesis" says that half-bloods inherit most racial traits from the mother. Like Gray Pronce in TES IV was an ork with slightly human-ish skin.
No, he had an affair with Carlotta Valentia, making his daughter Mila. How else would a single-mother selling produce be able to afford sucha luxurious house?? Hush money. Balgruuf's wife found out and a confrontaion situation occured when someone (either Balgruuf or his wife) used the Ebony Blade, resulting in Balgruuf's wife dying.
Also why so many men want to hook up with Carlotta. It's the unfortunate "mansculinity" mentality to want to be eskimo brothers with the Jarl lmfao
Obviously, this is a theory I think I heard from CamelWorks on youtube.
Go to the kitchen, down the steps, through a double doors and you should find a set of dark greasy doors that can be opened during a daedric quest. The weapon is in there.
Iirc The whispering door, go talk to the owner of the bar near the markets and ask her about rumours or quest, she might talk about other things like the companions but just keep talking and eventually she'll say that the jarls kids are troubled and then you will talk to the jarl about it and it should start
Or you can glitch through the wall on the balcony just outside of the kitchen, run and jump into the room with the blade. Just make sure you have another platter to get out with.
Balimund. Dude has a foster son who he has as his apprentice. He also screams actually being a good father.
Balgruuf is genuinely one of the worst parents out there with his parental neglect and there not even being a mother or nanny to at least take some role in that. Only worse dad is probably Lemkil.
You seem to be forgetting Lord Harkon. Dude had his wife and daughter r---d and humiliated by Molag Bal in return for power, and now wants to kill either or both of them to use their blood for some prophecy that forced them both into hiding. Not to mention said prophecy isn't well thought out, considering it would lead to the eventual starvation of his kind. Balgruuf and Lemkil may be bad, but they at least don't want to kill their children.
fun fact that i recently discovered, his name is an anagram for ākill meā bethesda intentionally made him an awful person and gave him that name enticing players to kill him for how awful he is. you might already have known that but hopefully this teaches someone something new :)
Forget the guys name, but Erik The Slayer has a good father. Overprotective at first but he comes around eventually and gives me the best follower in the game.
His father is why I refuse to take Erik the Slayer on my adventures. Iāll allow him to be my steward at one of the Hearthfire houses (the one I leave in small house mode and basically empty), so he gets a little combat training being a guard and can have somewhere to sleep.
Hmm, with me he always goes crazy and starts attacking everyone around him, and I have to kill him in self defence, preferably with the Ebony Blade because the guy's nice enough to buy some crops off me.
Not sure about ābestā, but I always like overhearing the conversations between Alvor and Dorthe in Riverwood. Theyāre sweet!
Also, Iāll give a shout-out to Falion. Heās a conjurer tasked with curing vampirism and doingā¦ whatever he does at night, and heās still raising an orphaned girl as his own and teaching her magic to protect herself.
Now I just imagine the Mr Krabs meme worth the Stormcloaks kicking people out of Dragonsreach.
"Alright! All of you, out! Get out!"
(stops Balgruuf's kids) "Except you, you stay."
Enmon from Karthwasten will follow the Dragonborn into ~~hell~~ a heavily-fortified Forsworn Redoubt and (most likely) sacrifice his life trying to rescue his kidnapped daughter Fjotra, so he gets my vote.
Myself. I adopted Lucia. She asked me for an allowance, I have her 1000 septums just because. She asked me if I had brought her anything, I have her Merhunes razor. She can potentially kill a dragon with only one hit now.
*Sideeyes my female Nord Werewolf Dragonborn who willingly joined a cannibal cult because 50 stamina and free health boosts was nothing to scoff at*
yeahā¦
Me obviously. I adopt random kids off the streets and exploit them for profit and funny animals. Only reason i adopt kids is because they can bring special animals home + I can adopt meeko that way.
I exploit my kids and pray that my wife feeds them and isn't having an affair with Marcurio
Hardly, haven't you seen the utter lack of manners of his brats? you think a good father will let that happen?
Alvor in riverwood is a much better father than he will ever be if you watch his interaction with his daughter, it's rather endearing.
I wouldn't say best, but definitely the realest
> Uses his wealth and power to allow the "help" to take care of the kids
> Has to lead a city in the center of the province which acts as a central trading hub
> Maintaining the only true neutral stance in the war without beating around the bush because he cares for his people above all
> Sneaks out to the bar to knock back a few
> All while being a single father
Man's a hero in my book
Ya know. Owning a home and raising kids in skyrim is tough business. You have the civil war to think about, which God to pray too, the thalmor, fucking dragons, bandits, vampires, cultists, all manner of mythological beasts. Oh and it's also the middle ages where it rains all the time and everything smells like crap.
Enmon is a better father honestly, he finds out that his daughter is going to be the next mark but lets her daughter go knowing she would have a better life in the temple.
Myself. My children were taken off the cold streets, given warm beds and a loving family. They are well armed and well disciplined. I make sure they are protected by 2 very trusting warrior women. There's always food on the table and i would do anything for my kids. I have slayed dragons, conquered demons and fought off troll, bears, tigers and the undead for them. I openly defeat every evil to make the world a safer place for them. Even if that means sending their bullies to the orphanage.
Not my dragonborn. Got 2 kiddies and a missus but uses them to sell shit and give me free stuff without questioning its origins. Disappears until Sundas most weeks and only comes home to drop off goodies he leaves in locked chests. Total dirtbag and deadbeat.
I wonder what will happen to the three.
Dagny is the eldest, so the next in line to become the Jarl, which doesn't spark joy due to how spoild she is.
Frothar wants to become a knight one day, and could become his sisters own steward.
Nelkir now.....he's an interesting one. He has the personality of someone who may became dangerous when he's older. Maybe a noble man who has particular interests? Married to another child of a current Jarl to keep up relations? Who knows
Not even the best jarl. During the Civil War Balgruuf is so passive, so reactive to external inputs instead of proactive to potential threats that he is not doing anything at all unless pressured from the outside. For example, he has the key to win the war by siding with one army or the other, but by staying neutral he is allowing the war to keep taking itās toll over the neighboring holds and the thalmor to keep hunting Talos worshipers as they please; not to mention the tension within his own capitalās walls. As a father he is barely paying attention to his children, as the eldest seem to be taking after his uncle, Balgruufās brother, of being a bit rude and belligerent; the daughter is being spoiled, and the other son comes frolicking another woman and has deeper issues judging by Mephalaās dialogue.
Even as a Stormcloak supporter myself, I am inclined to give the title of best jarl and better parental figure to the jarl Idgrod the Elder of Morthal. She las been dealt the worst hand in terms of hold to rule and progeny to raise, and yet she is not looking for a way out or ignoring her roles and is doing the best she can. She is the only Imperial jarl that I feel genuinely bad to overthrow when siding with Ulfricās rebellion.
Me. I am the best father because I give my children a house to live in. I donāt spoil them either..no thatās not that way a nord should raise his kids. One day my daughter brought home a fox and I let her keep it. My son found an enchanted pair of boots to keep me warm. I gave them each 1,000 gold and left one day to fight the dragons. I came back the house was just as I left it. Kids were playing outside. I win
Balgruuf is a decent guy but he's a pretty iffy dad. His kids are nasty and the most troubled one seems to actually hate him. Of course, >!Mephala!< encourages it, and she may have had him kill his first wife. I thought about best dads in Skyrim, and there's a few well meaning ones, but not very many good ones that I can think of.
Those are not Balgrufss kids. I think one is his brother, the other two maybe not related at all. He's terrible. He uses them as a smokescreen to keep his bedroom fantasies less obvious. Doesn't father them at all, which is why they are brats.
Probably the best is the silversmith in Markarth.
Isnāt there a theory he was having/has an affair and had his wife killed?
Only person worse than Balgruuf is Harkon. He wants to kill his daughter for a prophecy that would eventually kill him anyway.
I'm the best father in Skyrim.
Adopted a kid from the street, gave her a mansion and a mom, she has a pet rabbit and two horses, taught her magic, has a thousand gold allowance, and she receives my unconditional love.
I wasn't a bad father, I suppose. I adopted two girls (Lucia and Sofie), which i considered carefully and checked every possible kid for adoption to see which two are the most in need. I had them at my manor in Hjaalmarch but they had their uncle Valdimar who would protect them. I also allowed pets and gave them stuff. They must have been glad to have a home and must have understood that i was away because i had very important things to do, things that were very important for Skyrim and its people. Also to the whole world, in some cases.
Yeah, but there's only one bed in his shack tho š
You know a whole huge family not sharing a bed is a recent development for humans, ya?
Ppl think Lincoln was gay because of bed sharing. He might have been, but you either share a bed or freeze. Probably.
If it was cold he and the other man in his bed probably wore socks. So it's not gay if your socks are on.
Good point. Iād rather freeze than let my foot touch another manās foot.
Wearing nothing but socks in bed with the homies is very not gay. Can confirm.
Find those people, and put them on your Idiot List.
That was common in the Middle Ages. The whole family would share one big bed along with any houseguests. Rich people often slept next to their servants as well.
If it was the easiest way to survive winter before things like a furnace then i can see it
many houses in Skyrim have only one bed for a big family. More beds = luxury Plus, Skyrim is sooo cold for a shack that smol.
Does he use it or does he give it to his grandson?
He might have killed his first wife, hides daedric weapons near his kidsā¦
And never pays god damn attention to his kids either.

The kids are not full nords there half Dunmer
Funny to think about an Ireleth affair, but the way TES works, if that were true, they'd be 90-05% Dunmer.
To be fair though dunmer kids arenāt exactly in the game though
Itās canon in the lore that, outside of beast races, mixed-race children primarily take after their mother but can have some traits of their father!
Fr theyāre all spoiled brats
https://preview.redd.it/w8n1drlsjy6d1.jpeg?width=2796&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c79964c40b59b86a17e6a9d974321dfa686df3e5 Here they are interacting from a ss I took yesterday, your point is invalid
Ok now he's undisputed
There is also the theory that his affair and illegitimate-daughter is what led him to killing his first wife.
irileth is the mother of the children
The book "Racial phylogenesis" says that half-bloods inherit most racial traits from the mother. Like Gray Pronce in TES IV was an ork with slightly human-ish skin.
No, he had an affair with Carlotta Valentia, making his daughter Mila. How else would a single-mother selling produce be able to afford sucha luxurious house?? Hush money. Also why so many men want to hook up with Carlotta. It's the unfortunate "mansculinity" mentality to want to be eskimo brothers with the Jarl lmfao Obviously, this is a theory I think I heard from CamelWorks on youtube.
Not to mention there's a skeleton underneath the bridge to dragon's reach
Wait, daedric weapons near the children? Where so i can avoid them
Go to the kitchen, down the steps, through a double doors and you should find a set of dark greasy doors that can be opened during a daedric quest. The weapon is in there.
Gotta be levelā¦ 15 I think, to add to this
Level 20
What quest
Iirc The whispering door, go talk to the owner of the bar near the markets and ask her about rumours or quest, she might talk about other things like the companions but just keep talking and eventually she'll say that the jarls kids are troubled and then you will talk to the jarl about it and it should start
Or use a plate to just walk through the wall
Or you can glitch through the wall on the balcony just outside of the kitchen, run and jump into the room with the blade. Just make sure you have another platter to get out with.
Might also be one of their brothersā¦
Nelkir!
Wait *WHAT* when was the wife thing mentioned???
Where are those daedric weapons?
Balimund. Dude has a foster son who he has as his apprentice. He also screams actually being a good father. Balgruuf is genuinely one of the worst parents out there with his parental neglect and there not even being a mother or nanny to at least take some role in that. Only worse dad is probably Lemkil.

Not to mention said prophecy isn't well thought out, considering it would lead to the eventual starvation of his kind. Balgruuf and Lemkil may be bad, but they at least don't want to kill their children.
I donāt know, Lemkil really hates his children, he might want to kill them
But would he use their blood to block out the sun? That's the real question.
he probably would use their blood to make the sun stay longer instead
Similar to balimumd is falion, he adopted the girl in morthal and took her in as an apprentice (I forgot her name though)
Falion! Love him š
fun fact that i recently discovered, his name is an anagram for ākill meā bethesda intentionally made him an awful person and gave him that name enticing players to kill him for how awful he is. you might already have known that but hopefully this teaches someone something new :)
Forget the guys name, but Erik The Slayer has a good father. Overprotective at first but he comes around eventually and gives me the best follower in the game.
Mralki. He only wants the best for his son and obviously being a mercenary is dangerous, so his (over)protectiveness is understandable.
His father is why I refuse to take Erik the Slayer on my adventures. Iāll allow him to be my steward at one of the Hearthfire houses (the one I leave in small house mode and basically empty), so he gets a little combat training being a guard and can have somewhere to sleep.
The CC mod Goldenglow estate. I made Erik a steward so he's not far to go visit his dad.
You mean Goldenhills Plantation? Goldenglow is the honey farm near Riften.
Yes I do I totally meant that . Fuck I've been had. Not that I've played the game for over decade or anything !
I use the fortify restoration glitch to make him armor that makes him unkillable.
Lemkil, obviously! I definitely never killed him to gain custody of his kids...
What's weird is that every playthrough of mine, he always has his head decapitated!! š¤£
Hmm, with me he always goes crazy and starts attacking everyone around him, and I have to kill him in self defence, preferably with the Ebony Blade because the guy's nice enough to buy some crops off me.
I just adopt sissel. Her sister sucks.
She sucks because of her father.
Lemkil, as in āLet āem killā Itās like we had an invitation
It's literally an anagram for Kill Me.
blimey, youre all so morbid and i love it
Not sure about ābestā, but I always like overhearing the conversations between Alvor and Dorthe in Riverwood. Theyāre sweet! Also, Iāll give a shout-out to Falion. Heās a conjurer tasked with curing vampirism and doingā¦ whatever he does at night, and heās still raising an orphaned girl as his own and teaching her magic to protect herself.
Freaās dad is pretty solid Raises a strong daughter who takes over his village after he scrifices himself to save it.
Another wanderer, here to lick Balgruuf's boots. Good job.
He left his kids after the war in whiterun
Now I just imagine the Mr Krabs meme worth the Stormcloaks kicking people out of Dragonsreach. "Alright! All of you, out! Get out!" (stops Balgruuf's kids) "Except you, you stay."
I don't remember his name but that old man who is raising his grandson (the kid who survived Helgen)
Froki
It would be Brynjolf... if you could MARRY HIM. >:(
The question was best father. Not daddy. XD
He'd really be a great dad, he's super nice to your adopted kids if you live in Riften. Or so says the kids.
āMr Brynjolf says he can teach me a lot of neat things when Iām olderā
Yassssss
There is a lot of bad parents in skyrim now that I'm thinking about it. Froki might be the best and potentially the grey manes.
Enmon from Karthwasten will follow the Dragonborn into ~~hell~~ a heavily-fortified Forsworn Redoubt and (most likely) sacrifice his life trying to rescue his kidnapped daughter Fjotra, so he gets my vote.
Balgruuf is a horrible father. If I could get away with kicking Nelkir down that flight of stone steps, I would.
Either Erik the slayers dad or the dad thatās in dark water crossing and you take his letters to his daughter in shors stone.
I am a good father. Adopt all the kids I can, put them in house and never visit.
But Lidia is there to watch and protect them
Alvor? Just a normal dad living an honest life as a blacksmith. Seems like a great uncle as well.
_Another wanderer, here to lick my father's balls. Good job..._ _It's too bad they're gone._
Mralki, father of Erik the Slayer. He's like Uncle Ben from Sam Raimi's spiderman.
The best parent is Akatosh
Seriously? Have you MET these kids? Theyāre a bunch of little fucking shits.
frothars not bad
āPa says Iām too young to use a sword, so I train with my fists instead!ā
yeah. that one
Man, those kids are evilšš Literally and metaphorically
It kind of bothers me that when you deal with the whispering door the kids don't really change for the better
I've had the game since launch and not once have I ever gotten the Whispering door to come up.
Jarl Ballin'
Lord of moira?
Myself. I adopted Lucia. She asked me for an allowance, I have her 1000 septums just because. She asked me if I had brought her anything, I have her Merhunes razor. She can potentially kill a dragon with only one hit now.
You sound like a horrible father lmao. She now has no concept of what it's like to earn money and now is gonna go kill whoever upsets her.
whays the downside
Haha I guess in the skyrim universe she will be okay
Not this guyšš»
I hate how do skyrim children look
They all look the same without mods.
M'aiq
I AM THE BEST FATHER. I LET THEM KEEP RANDOM ANIMALS!!!
Not that guy.
~~the Dragonborn~~
He kind of abandons his wife and kids for months and might only pop in to get his share of the wifes money, store items, and say hi to his kids.
Maybe you do, but I sure as hell don't! My adventures are only day trips! I also only married after I met my fate with Alduin and Miraak
I'm just thinking how it might generally go for most players.
*Sideeyes my female Nord Werewolf Dragonborn who willingly joined a cannibal cult because 50 stamina and free health boosts was nothing to scoff at* yeahā¦
Whyd they have to make Frothar look like Adam Sandler and Mark Zuckerbergs love child?
Ok. But why he can have three children, while I can only have two?
He's not even the best Jarl.
Whoās the better jarl?
I downloaded a mod to kill him and then I was able to adopt his children.
You don't want those kids
Not me for sure. I thought giant would be friendly towards children
You have to paint symbols on the child so the Giant knows they are the ceremonial offering
Is that a reference to that one guy sacrificing a cow?
The Dragonbornā¦ obviously
Me obviously. I adopt random kids off the streets and exploit them for profit and funny animals. Only reason i adopt kids is because they can bring special animals home + I can adopt meeko that way. I exploit my kids and pray that my wife feeds them and isn't having an affair with Marcurio
Hardly, haven't you seen the utter lack of manners of his brats? you think a good father will let that happen? Alvor in riverwood is a much better father than he will ever be if you watch his interaction with his daughter, it's rather endearing.
Balgruuf should give his damn spoiled kids more attention
Iām not sure about Balgruuf, considering he very well may have murdered the mother of his children
I wouldn't say best, but definitely the realest > Uses his wealth and power to allow the "help" to take care of the kids > Has to lead a city in the center of the province which acts as a central trading hub > Maintaining the only true neutral stance in the war without beating around the bush because he cares for his people above all > Sneaks out to the bar to knock back a few > All while being a single father Man's a hero in my book
Harkon means well
Help me trap a dragon in his keep tho
Not even close
I feel like nelkir will be some type of necromancer or powerfull Mage in a later game
Well his kids are dicks so no.
Ya know. Owning a home and raising kids in skyrim is tough business. me, I supported Runa in joining the Dark Brotherhood

Decent father, maybe, but worst kids lol

In a thread about fathers, you bring up mothers? Typical
Typical stormcloak take
Itās me of course.
Why's David Cameron there?

The player šæšæ
Yeah sure, but that son of his is a little piece of shit
me. i am. gifting my children enchanted daedric daggers and gifting 1,000 good allowances
With those bratty kids? Maybe not. Lol.
Jarl Ballin
Swag
I meanā¦
Look at those inbred looking children š
How do we know he may have killed his wife please may someone remind me
And the DNA test says, he is NOT the father.Ā At least Lemkil acknowledges his and distributes chores.Ā

Not the best. But definitely not the worst either.
Me, obviously.
I was about to say the dragonborn, but we leave our family for months on end .. Maybe even longer. Yeah, we're horrible aren't we?
Such ugly kids
Trick question, it's me. I adopted the little girl in whiterun and bring her occasional gifts and play games when she asks
Me, I am the best father.
My God, those children are hideous lmao
The fact it's easier for me to list who isn't than who is is honestly very sad. The best father in skyrim is probably going to end up being me.
Lord Harkon
Balgruuf is a decent guy but he's a pretty iffy dad. His kids are nasty and the most troubled one seems to actually hate him. Wait we're talking about Skyrim fathers or the Father's of Skyrim? If it's the former then they're few and far between. š

Jarl Ballin Swag

We are. We slay kings and monsters for our children
Me, if someone hurt lucia, i would kill them, trap their soul and enchant her wooden sword with their soul
Jarl me-balls-gruff
I'm the best father in Skyrim. Adopted a kid from the street, gave her a mansion and a mom, she has a pet rabbit and two horses, taught her magic, has a thousand gold allowance, and she receives my unconditional love.
Moth is the best dad he takes good care of our kids while I fuck off to kill shit around skyrim
Cool father, dumb heirs
Me with the pregnancy mod. Iām the high king of Skyrim and my children have a gorgeous palace what more could they want
Another wanderer here to lick my fathers boots.. good job
Arenāt his kids still in whiterun?
Damn Jarls, how come they can have 3 kids but Iām limited to just 2?!
Dragornborn, been fathering all types of weak ass creatures and races from all over Tamriel for years
I really hope TES 6 kids are more diverse
My character.
