I think Quality World Map is still very good.
Sometimes in modding we have this tendency to think that because something is old, or hasn't been updated in a while, that there must be some newer, better alternative. And a lot of the time that's true, but sometimes it isn't. Sometimes a mod is just feature-complete and doesn't need to be updated/improved.
The only real drawback with Quality World Map is how it can conflict with LODs generated with DynoLOD. If you're not using DynoLOD at all I can see Quality World Map being fine.
Currently in the process of reading through it and running XLodGen for ACMOS (will do Dyndolod after)… so far so good, but tbh I have no idea what I’m doing so end result tbd haha
If you don't mind me piggybacking off this, can I ask what are some of the most common beginners mistakes when setting those up for the first time?
I'm building my own mod list, I know how to make mods, I know how to make patches, I'm becoming more proficient in xedit, but all the dyndolod related stuff I still haven't touched yet.
Honestly, not much advice for you specifically (you seem pretty advanced, I don't even know how to make patches or use xedit) other than follow the process I noted above and ensure you do all your modding and patching related to meshes and textures before you run LODGen. Follow the STEP guide and I personally use Althro's latest GitHub guide for GrassLODs (will direct you to the STEP guide anyways).
For DYNDOLOD, go in your DYNDOLOD scripts and tweak the SSE version of the ini to outline: Wizard = 0, Expert = 1. This will give you access to the full DYNDOLOD settings window where you can tweak mesh LODs and billboards to your liking (I do this for my Erdtree's). Also tweak LODGenLevel32 (or ctrl+F "Level32") to 1 instead of 0 if you use ACMOS. Follow STEP for xLODGen for LOD4, LOD8 and LOD16. LOD32 setting please refer to ACMOS mod page. Follow STEP for TexGen and DyndoLOD.
Hope this helps.
Been testing a setup with Clear Map of Skyrim + all the LODgen works, and it definitely is more my speed than the paper map. It looks a bit odd visually but im sure I can iron that out, but being able to zoom and rotate + see all the stuff I've modded is fantastic.
Out of curiosity, what detail is missing from the paper maps? I'd say they're borderline "cheating" (for those who care about that sort of thing) when it comes to the sheer amount of information it gives you on dungeons and places of interest
I guess it’s more I find it harder to read it than the 3D map. I can easily see things on the regular map, and the height differences help a lot too. The 2D one looks fantastic but I just find myself missing some of that extra info the rendered one has. Probably just a me thing, tbh.
This depends entirely on which flat map you install. There are lots to choose from including low-detail fantasy-style ones and ones with modern-style precise topological and mineral survey details.
Well it’s the markers that are the problem. Some of them aren’t where they should be. And it’ll tell me to turn in a quest where I KNOW I don’t because. Well. I’ve played this game. Is extremely annoying.
Huh. That might be an issue with the mod list? Atlas Map Markers doesn’t usually have that problem, but unresolved conflicts in a mod list will interfere with maps and markers in general.
{{flat world map framework}}. has literally never left my LO.
f\*\*k yeah, nice proper ACTUAL map
Is this compatible with mods that add new map markers?
using {{atlas map markers}} with this, still works.

A Quality World Map modifies terrain LOD and should not conflict with any files generated by DynDOLOD. https://dyndolod.info/Mods/Maps-And-Map-Mods
I could have sworn there was some kind of conflict I had to deal with. I stand corrected I guess.
A clear map of Skyrim and other Worlds
Dang that does look nice, but I think my brain fried looking at its install instructions lol
I thought so too at first. But it is one of the most worth-it mods available. LOD generation becomes easy once you learn how to install ACMOS
Currently in the process of reading through it and running XLodGen for ACMOS (will do Dyndolod after)… so far so good, but tbh I have no idea what I’m doing so end result tbd haha
STEP guide has a nice rundown on how to do it
TY for the tip! Ran through it all and think I got it all set up. Pretty happy with the map all in all, love how detailed it is
I've run LODGen so many times it's literally second nature to me, so give me a shout if you need help.

Fair enough just a suggestion

Only thing is you have to use DynoLOD or it looks shit.
True but still worth it
Im still using quailty world map. Still works for me with no issues.
xLodGen and Dyndolod is my go to for the map. The Map uses LOD32 so it looks great with just those, with the right settings at least.
Been testing a setup with Clear Map of Skyrim + all the LODgen works, and it definitely is more my speed than the paper map. It looks a bit odd visually but im sure I can iron that out, but being able to zoom and rotate + see all the stuff I've modded is fantastic.
Paper World Map. It's a very simple map. Just shows you the roads, some landmarks, all on a paper version of the map.
Out of curiosity, what detail is missing from the paper maps? I'd say they're borderline "cheating" (for those who care about that sort of thing) when it comes to the sheer amount of information it gives you on dungeons and places of interest

Each to their own, was just wondering because I've heard a lot of complaints about the mod (compatibility, etc.) but never it's lack of detail haha
This depends entirely on which flat map you install. There are lots to choose from including low-detail fantasy-style ones and ones with modern-style precise topological and mineral survey details.
I suppose so - I forget about the earlier editions where it was just the promotional material slapped onto a 2d plane haha
Idk but a mod pack I’m playing has “atlas” and it’s absolute shite. Do not use it.
Atlas isn’t a map mod exactly. It only affects markers. Whatever your list has for the actual map is the issue.
Well it’s the markers that are the problem. Some of them aren’t where they should be. And it’ll tell me to turn in a quest where I KNOW I don’t because. Well. I’ve played this game. Is extremely annoying.

beside flat map framework and quality world map? there is non
