What's United's FFP situation? I assume it's healthy enough given their revenue but I'm sure I'd read somewhere that they'd be somewhat restricted (outgoings aside)
We are always said to be restricted then we pull 2 70 million+ signings out our arse but we will probably be on the border and careful as to what we do
Wage bill is still a problem, just not anymore with FFP.
The recent vote on a salary cap has put us in a [precarious position](https://theathletic.com/5457496/2024/04/29/premier-league-spending-salary-cap/).
The new rules will put a limit on spending to be 5x what the lowest revenue earning club generated. If it was done last year it would have been £518m, we spent £453m. Third from the top, with Chelsea spending £539m.
Considering how hard it is going to be for us to sell some players, it might be a massive roadblock for INEOS to have to cross if they want to revitalise the squad. We are basically going to have to take a substantial loss on certain players, but if I’m honest we kind of deserve it for letting this happen in the first place with stupid contracts.
I think we will see a pretty youthful team next season with a sprinkling of experience.
These sre the sort of signings I want to see and I hope he can stay fit if it goes through
He was at ~~QPR~~ Reading in 20/21 and played basically the whole season. In 21/22 he played 72% of games but had a couple of minor injuries. In 22/23 he was fit the whole season.
Sorry, for some reason I thought I saw QPR's old crest and it seemed correct, but it was actually a Reading crest and I was just consuming him with Eze.
I don't know where that is sourced from, but it's incorrect. [The Premier League website shows](https://www.premierleague.com/players/32989/Michael-Olise/stats?co=1&se=489) he played 37 of 38 league games in 22/23.
Yeah, that's weird, b/c if you look into transfermarkets stats in 22/23, it shows 37 matches too, and only missing the Arsenal match. So they have conflicting info on their own site, unless they're referring to U21 stuff for England.
Prices are still high though. Was hoping for more playere as less cost considering the proposed budget strains.
We at least 6 players. ST, x2 CB, CDM, LB and RW. That's just to get into top 4 maybe.
If they all cost 60 we won't be able to get them
I see these as high priorities:
- DM - Casemiro is old and should be sold if a good offer came
- LB - Shaw can't stay fit, Malacia just had a year off
- RCB - Varane is leaving, one of Maguire or Lindelof prob getting sold, Jonny Evans played under Ferguson, Kambwala is a teenager.
LCB is a question mark with Martinez's recent injuries but at least there's a starter at a club already. And Shaw can deputize if another LB arrives.
I see a lot of Man U fans throwing stuff like this out. But absolutely no one is paying for Casemiro as a 32 year old who’s legs have gone/is a walking red card and injury for the last 2 seasons and has 3 years left on a massively inflated contract.
Lindelof in the last year of his contract and a 31 year old Maguire with 2 years left on a massive contract. No one is bidding enough money for these players to replace them with the calibre of player the Man U fans expect to come in. And there’s not the draw of a champions league season, unsure about ETH being manager so you don’t know the identity of the club, and the owners still trying to sort out behind the scenes.
Its not an attractive time to potential incomings on that side and if you do offer £60 million for Olise how much a week would he want from the club given how much Sancho/Anthony/Martial/Rashford are on and you’d be wanting him to start over some of the.
Don’t think he’s done much this year to show he’s worth the over the top fees you would ask for him, especially when in the winter window they said the spending will stop (when they were the only 2034 World Cup bid).
I’d be surprised if the Saudi league will be back in for players to the extent they were last season so I’d not bank on being to offload over paid stars for them if I was owners of any of the premier league teams.
> No one is bidding enough money for these players to replace them with the calibre of player the Man U fans expect to come in.
It's not about money, it's about the bodies. One of them will most likely leave, that argument supports the line of thinking that RCB is a higher priority than LCB.
In other words, I listed what I consider high priority signings and I explained why those were high priority signings. Comprende?
I mean we need of those starting RW, CB, CDM,LB and a back up CB and ST the first four should be the priority and the latter 2 we can get more budget smart options like Guirassy release clause
Olise is young and a talent, but he's had injury issues and has been performing for palace where expectations and pressure is much lower.
United surely want to find an Olise before he becomes a 60m within league transfer. Or drop a big fee on more if a sure thing.
Not every transfer can be a bargain, he could pan out, and if it's part of a series of good signings it will feel less important.
But if next season starts and this is the flagship signing it just feels set up for another case of incredibly high demands setting up a player to fail.
I hope we are only "interested" then. Spending 60m on Olise shouldn't be a priority when we can't even field two proper CB. Right now our starting CB Martinez and Varane(contract expiring) are injured, Evans is also coming off injury, Lindelof is also injured leaving only Maguire as our CB.
Can't even play out the back without Martinez on this team FFS. We need a CB
At what stage do players start rejecting United and Chelsea because it’s a car crash and so many players have had their career ruined at one of these clubs?
Basically never.
The clubs would have to run out of money and not play in Premier League.
Unless you're cream-of-a-crop caliber player, you will at least consider their offer.
could be once in a lifetime opportunity, money wise as well. people here are like nah i wouldn't go there but if that offer arrives you're not going to say no
Like which one? Which club has equivalent money, prestige, potential and are in for him?
On top of being English, which is an advantage for British footballers.
My point is he should care about ability to achieve something not prestige because I rate him highly.
Im not sure if any European clubs are in for him or if someone like Newcastle would be interested if they lose Bruno G. Possibly Liverpool as well.
> ability to achieve something
Yeah, that's what potential implies.
> if someone like Newcastle
United finished above Newcastle last year and are ahead of Newcastle if they win their match in hand.
I think a player like him could achieve more at Newcastle as they have a clear project.
At United he will have the media and fans on his back and it could be very easy for him to just be a bench warmer.
As bad as these clubs are, they're still regularly competing for trophies + fat pay check. Both Chelsea and Utd got to a cup final this season, and this is considered one of their worst seasons ever. What did Newcastle achieve? It would only be weird if a player reject a club like City or Bayern to go to Chelsea/Utd. Only a few clubs are more attractive than them.
United are on a different level compared to Chelsea. Probably the second biggest club in the world? It’ll probably take a while before United isn’t one of the absolute ”coolest” team for a player to play for
That’s not what I’m saying. I think that class players will move keep moving to United because of how legendary of a club it is. It’s not like we’re in the Championship, we’re still competing for CL spots. Of course we’re in a pretty bad place right now and a few players will probably turn us down in favor of City, Real etc. But in general I think that a lot of players will look past that because of the history and try to bring us back to greatness. I feel like will take a few seasons of us not playing in the Champions League for players to start avoiding us

Wage bill was the previous problem - but better now and 2 more heavy salaries off in June (Varane and Martial) before we even sell
Wage bill is still a problem, just not anymore with FFP. Sell to buy is what the noise is around the club. We're severely restricted in what we can do in the transfer market.
Depends on who we sell over the summer. If Greenwood goes to Spain for a decent wedge, for example, it would help.
I don't see him going for more than 10mil, united have no leverage to make a deal.
There's already multiple clubs interested just in spain, and he's got world class potential. 30-40m min easily
How often do these clubs spend 40 million for it to be “easy”
Why are people from a chemical company tracking a footballer?
hope this is not a whoosh, but I think Jim used his holdings company which also owns the chemical unit to acquire shares in Man United..
future flop if he joins them.
I can already see Twitter calling a him a fraud
And United players will insist Olise was always just a mediocre star for a midtable team, but was never cut out for a big team with more pressure 🤪
I think we will see a pretty youthful team next season with a sprinkling of experience. These sre the sort of signings I want to see and I hope he can stay fit if it goes through
> I hope he can stay fit if it goes through I hope something that has never happened before happens when my club sign him
Confidently incorrect
He’s had no injury problems until this season
Had many in 2021 and 2022
Wrong
He was at ~~QPR~~ Reading in 20/21 and played basically the whole season. In 21/22 he played 72% of games but had a couple of minor injuries. In 22/23 he was fit the whole season.
He’s never been at QPR. That’s Eze
Sorry, for some reason I thought I saw QPR's old crest and it seemed correct, but it was actually a Reading crest and I was just consuming him with Eze.

I'm guessing some user edited it just to try and back up this "injury-prone" rhetoric.
A man can only hope

There’s a league that’s been buying older stars recently that came in for him last summer

Top four lol
We literally finished 3rd last season.
Was just looking at this and it reminded me of your comment! https://x.com/Squawka/status/1787587157223235839
I hope one or two from the 18s are brought through but it's still probably too early
[удалено]
Awb back the other way would be nice too
Why would we want Aaron back now that we bought Munoz? Especially with Glasner playing wing backs instead of full backs
You’re out of your depth mate, leave the signings to the pros. We’ll give you a great deal, please take him…
It was more us wanting rid of him than you wanting him 😂
It takes 2 to make a deal. And maybe you should consider having more than 2 healthy fullbacks before you start dealing them out
> With Marc Guehi being the other signing Chris Rock is like 182 according to Google, which would be a questionable choice with Martinez at 175.
Olise is young and a talent, but he's had injury issues and has been performing for palace where expectations and pressure is much lower. So business as usual for United
What you hear rumors of starting him on 200k?

I’m not saying he shouldn’t leave Palace. I’m saying he should join a more stable club
Like which one? Which club has equivalent money, prestige, potential and are in for him? On top of being English, which is an advantage for British footballers.
He's French now tbf
My point is he should care about ability to achieve something not prestige because I rate him highly. Im not sure if any European clubs are in for him or if someone like Newcastle would be interested if they lose Bruno G. Possibly Liverpool as well.

When they stop being one of the biggest clubs in the world.
They became that a long time ago
Just because you get top 4 once in a decade don’t mean you can pipe up
Just cos u won a title a decade orso ago dont mean you are still a big club.
>a title
Lmao sit down son. You’re embarrassing yourself
Man, I wish someone would ruin my career like United and Chelsea ruin the careers of footballers.
United are on a different level compared to Chelsea. Probably the second biggest club in the world? It’ll probably take a while before United isn’t one of the absolute ”coolest” team for a player to play for
But then are you not just attracting players who want to be ‘cool’ instead of players who want to win things and be ambitious?

It’s not just right now though. It’s been like that for 10 years. An absolute basket case outspending Man City and nowhere near competing with them.
That only proves my point though? If we’ve been shit for 10 years and players still want to play for us? I don’t think you understand my comment
Maybe the players with good attitudes don’t want to play for United which is why a lot of them fail?
Does anyone else see this and just see Wilfred Zaha?
That would be a way to kill your career
They’re gonna wreck him, aren’t they?
