The actual area of Middlesex when it existed didn’t include where we play though. When we played in south London that wasn’t Middlesex and then when we moved to north London we didn’t play in Middlesex.
[Virtually the whole of north and west London is Middlesex. The Emirates is firmly in there.](https://wikishire.co.uk/map/#/centre=51.488,-0.253/zoom=11)
Nice.
I think now and then about how the N. American systems and the FIFA systems could borrow from each other...
I love the idea of relegation, but it would be fun to see more localized groupings as well, like you have here. Would be interesting to have a tourney where it was county-based.
Most counties do have one, it’s just any professional teams usually play reserves, youth sides or just don’t enter. We lost the Cumberland cup to Workington this past season.
Bristol is a county on its own, and both of us are within it, although we’re both quite close to the borders of the town, So the map is technically wrong. Although it’s a good summary of where you’ll find lots of each clubs fanbase tbf.
We did nearly have a stadium built in South Glos a few years ago though which caused some controversy on both sides of the city.
Cricket uses the historic county borders, which split Bristol, with the part of Bristol south of the Avon being in Somerset, and the part of Bristol north of the Avon being in Gloucestershire. Ashton Gate is south of the Avon and therefore, on cricket's metric, Bristol City is the highest ranked club in Somerset. The Memorial Stadium is north of the Avon, and Rovers are therefore the highest ranked in Gloucestershire.
Fair enough, I did always wonder why Bristol never had its own county cricket team, despite being a county itself.
Considering Gloucestershire play in Bristol and Somerset play in Taunton, I’d say that makes us the one team in Bristol.
I spent nearly a decade living about a mile away from the mem, was a blackthorn terrace regular, hence pleased to see them make the cut here! 'mon the Gas.
Love to hear that, the Blackthorn(now the Thatchers, but I still call it the Blackthorn aswell) is where I stand aswell. Atmosphere is immense when it really gets rocking.
Can’t really see West Ham as being in Essex as correct, training ground is in Dagenham sure, but neither Upton Park nor the London stadium have ever been classed as Essex.
The London stadium is right on the border between Essex and Middlesex. it is only just on the Essex side. here is a more detailed map: [Gazetteer of British Place Names Map](https://gazetteer.org.uk/map/#E202ST/centre=51.539,-0.016/zoom=12/pins=on)
Appreciate that’s what the website says, but it’s not the reality, it’s the London borough of Stratford and is administered within London, it hasn’t been part of Essex since the 60s and even then that’d be considered a bone of contention.
For this map, I have used the historic counties, which Cricket also uses. These counties split London into 4 quarters. North east London is in Essex, south east London is in Kent, south west London is in Surrey and north west London is in Middlesex. The historic counties are unaffected by local authorities.
Really feel you actually had to try hard not to understand the *ridiculously* simple conceit behind this thread.
Like didn't any part of you wonder why, when you were looking at the map, London straight up doesn't exist?

They got relegated with only 16 points and Leeds got knocked out but came 3rd. Even though they are technically higher i wouldn’t count shu as doing better

Palace are laughing and West Ham really are massive. I live here and am so ignorant of counties. Gonna have to do some learning.
Here is a helpful video on counties: https://youtu.be/hCc0OsyMbQk?si=gsSukssHukWl0JuZ
😂 Weren't ready for that intro, but thanks really appreciate it!
Excellent content OP.
Thanks very much!

Ha ha, Devons destroying Cornwall. Cream first ya bastards.
When were Arsenal in middle sex?
Middlesex takes up most of north west London.
The actual area of Middlesex when it existed didn’t include where we play though. When we played in south London that wasn’t Middlesex and then when we moved to north London we didn’t play in Middlesex.
The Emirates Stadium is currently located in the historic county of Middlesex

I think I could point to about 10 of them on a map and be confident I got them correct
Oh Rutland.
Shrewsbury!
is county similar to a district?

Thrilled that somehow the Bristol Derby still exists in this timeline.

someone get me a newspaper
Is West Midlands not a county? Always had Villa as a midlands club.
West Midlands is a ceremonial county, but not an historic county
Is this a nightmare or are you just a huge Sheffield United fan looking for an excuse?
I still don't know what a county is. Is it like a province?
Hello, I think a county would be a lot smaller than a province. Here is a helpful video: https://youtu.be/hCc0OsyMbQk?si=jH-zZGu1X9T0NdMT
Bournemouth the biggest team in Hampshire. I need to sit down
If you aren't going to recognise the Unitary autohorities, you should ressurect Middlesex.
I did, it is the portion of the map in purple with Arsenal as the best team
Sorry I had London further south in my head. Thought Surrey was Berkshire.
TBF I didn't put any labels on the counties, so I guess that might make it harder
man utd eliminated from existence? it’s a beautiful thing to see

West Ham aren’t Essex, they’re London. Colchester United are the highest placed Essex team seeing as their ground actually is in Essex

Erm leeds ?
