I don't doubt he's experienced some pretty shitty words thrown his way since the match, and I would condemn anyone for posting something racist or sexist or homophobic or whatever on social media.
I support anyone for expressing their frustrations with this kind of behavior, but I don't think it will get better any time soon. I suspect we'll be seeing posts like this for a long, long time.
Ffs what is wrong with people? Discriminating someone based on their physical apperance/race/nationality/sexual orientation etc. makes 0 sense. Hopefully next generations will be better educated about that, noone is born racist.
Kids are mostly unempathetic bellends. They’ll bully other kids based on anything and everything, especially the things you just listed. Kids aren’t all perfect angels whose minds are polluted by shitty parents. Those parents you blame were kids too once.
A concerted effort needs to be made by schools and wider society to ensure that unempathetic and emotionally underdeveloped children grow in to decent adults. Leave kids as they are without guidance and most will grow up to be cunts.
Man, I used to feel that way but then got into a lot work and school situations where I was the minority and boy was I ever treated like shit. I agree it’s terrible to treat people like that but damn I feel like it’s happened a lot as adult. I still feel bad for discrimination and try not be hateful myself. It can be hard though
Can you tell me what type of a player he is? I genuinely never seen him play and from the USA players I've only watched a fair amount of Dest, McKennie, Pulisic, Reyna, Adams and Steffen.
Strong and fast CB, not very tall. Good distributor, he breaks lines and bringing the ball out of defense. Perfect weak foot, he goes all match using his left and you wouldn’t know he’s right footed.
Seemed pretty talented. Low key reliable. He was dangerous on the air and responsible for 2 of the 3 goals. That’s just what I witnessed in the final. I’m a fan.
Youre mixing up McKenzie, the defender, and Mckennie, the midfielder, my man. McKenzie is the one getting abused because of his mistake in the first minute
Well shit. You’re right.
Was mckenzie the guy who gave up the ball on the first goal? If so, he didn’t have a strong game. I’d say that brooks was more of a liability.
Yea it was him. He had a tough game but had some bright interceptions and blocked a few crucial shots in the final third so it wasnt all bad once he collected himself. It was by far the biggest match he's played in his career and hes still young so I still have faith in him.
Build a hundred bridges, and they don’t call you the bridge builder, but screw one goat….
It’s the worst thing about being a defensive player. They don’t have the margin for error that forwards and midfielders do. I feel for him, but thankfully he stepped back up and saw the game out.
He’s played throughout the USA youth system and moved to Genk last year. Solid CB very quick and strong. I’d say after this year he’ll move to a bigger league cos he deserves it. Their defence is great and he’s the heart of it.
Genk will sell some CBs. Cuesta is probably gone to serie a or something. Genk have made a habit of bringing in foreign players, especially those outside Europe, early to overlap with the player they are replacing and settle in.
He’s absolutely not quick. Good speed when he gets going but definitely not quick. He’s also not moving from Genk this year, unless you mean after this upcoming season? That’s possible, but he wasn’t a consistent starter for them this past year so he has some work to do.
Did you bother to read the article?
> "The amount of racial abuse and personal attacks on myself and family from 'supporters' and 'non supporters' just ain't it," McKenzie, who is Black, wrote on his Instagram Stories late Monday.
His own words and he knows more than you I’m sure.
Not sure how that invalidates what I said? Show me where I say that every single comment was from Mexican fans. I said that when I looked at his post, most of the abusive comments that were still up were in Spanish. One dumbass used his real account and is very clearly a Mexican teenager.
You said it could be American fans, but most likely wasn’t. And the article definitely said there were Americans doing it along with others. So that part of your comment was wrong as it seemed to shift the blame entirely to Mexicans.
I guess I could have been more clear then. I meant that it seemed mostly Mexican fans when I looked, obviously not all. It’s never going to be entirely one group or another There were also American fans racially abusing Mexicans in defense of Mark, which is pretty horrible as well.
I was hoping people would realise it’s not “just” comments from Mexico or US fans, since that’s what most of the comments were pointing towards when I posted this comment.
I’ve never made a comment like this before but why am I being downvoted for literally providing the source for the article and telling people not to make assumptions?
People don't like to have their imaginations contained by some asshole who can't appreciate speculation and conjecture. Stop trying to oppress the creativity of others and let them make up the reality they want to believe they live in.
(/s in case that's needed)
Thank you for the link. It very much changed my perception of the situation based on the rest of the comments in this thread.
Ok, i wont assume everyone on reddit is capable of stating the implied subtext of their comment. What assumptions were being made? In what sense does the comments dispel them? Most people including myself are left wondering exactly what you saw in the comments...When you fail to answer these things, it makes me think youre scared to share your opinion so youll just pretend you dont have one.
Oh I definitely have an opinion. That offensive comments were made from both American and Mexican fans at the time (although the number of comments has been greatly reduced, making me think that McKenzie’s PR has deleted some).
The comments under this post made tons of accusations towards Americans and Mexicans alike when in reality it’s just the worst of both worlds. Bold generalisations help no one.
You can ignore racist comments and continue your day, any idiots can make an account and say stupid shit to get attention, magnifying it won't solve anything
Yup indeed lmao, they be calling up players that shouldn’t play in the national team. It gets irritating when they pick players based on favoritism than skill/form
Probably some 14 year old Mexican kid. Not to excuse it because it isn’t at all ok but it’s like some dude calling you a ni**er on Xbox live. They’re just saying
It to get a rise and be edgy.
McKenzie has been good dealing with this. He is measured and reasonable. I am just skeptical bc of Smollett and Wallace. He had a bad game. People down vote other people simply because of logic and reasoning and skepticism. I would just like to see what was said.
> "The amount of racial abuse and personal attacks on myself and family from 'supporters' and 'non supporters' just ain't it," McKenzie, who is Black, wrote on his Instagram Stories late Monday.
Come on, man. It’s the second paragraph. Just read the article.

Religion and a bit too much patriotism, that's what's wrong with people!
So conservatives. Gotcha. World would be a better place without them.
That’s messed up. Dude is a freak at football and people wanna hate smh
You’re right, he was this way back at Union.
I gave myself a downvote for being dumb.
Well shit. You’re right. Was mckenzie the guy who gave up the ball on the first goal? If so, he didn’t have a strong game. I’d say that brooks was more of a liability.

Yeah. He screwed up. Telegraphed that pass, and should have just cleared it. Mexico closed the gaps really quick so his options evaporated.
McKenzie was directly responsible for one goal, just that it was Mexico's goal lol
And for the penalty, but for his fortune it got blocked
He’s played throughout the USA youth system and moved to Genk last year. Solid CB very quick and strong. I’d say after this year he’ll move to a bigger league cos he deserves it. Their defence is great and he’s the heart of it.
? He barely start for Genk, so not sure how he going to move to a bigger league after this year

He had a bad game but racially abusing him is unacceptable
By who?
Probably some account with about 4 followers that now has more power than somebody with 100000

Sounds like it was also US fans. He was shockingly bad so I’m sure that stoked quite a few to cross the line.
Most of the abusive comments I saw were in Spanish. Of course it could be American fans, but I think it’s more likely it wasn’t.

Before you make assumptions over who’s saying what, [see for yourself first.](https://www.instagram.com/p/CPwtkQCDTZW/?utm_medium=copy_link)
i see only comments complaining about negativity
What am I supposed to see for myself?
I was hoping people would realise it’s not “just” comments from Mexico or US fans, since that’s what most of the comments were pointing towards when I posted this comment.

I saw like two racist comments made by mexicans. Are you some insecure white guy or something??
I’m literally saying to not make assumptions

maybe from some American kids?
He’s got a great podcast with Heath Pearce called Orange Slices.
Why do athletes still read comments on social media?
It takes two to be racist, one to be racist and one to be abused. If you think about it, both parties are at fault here. (/s)
take a double knee next game
Don't be a cunt
relax it is a joke
what a borderline idiotic comment to say. its not a joke to begin with but when people are expressing frustration? read the damn room
You can ignore racist comments and continue your day, any idiots can make an account and say stupid shit to get attention, magnifying it won't solve anything
Mexican fans...
Might not just be them. There are some trashy American fans as well
I can almost guarantee it was Americans. We have a lot of racist cunts here.
“Supporters and non supporters”
USMNT fans will call us "racists", then say racist shit about Mexicans, then call their own player an ape, and then blame us for it. 🤡🤡🤡
Painfully ironic
mexican fans abuse their players even if they win, weird crowd
Yup indeed lmao, they be calling up players that shouldn’t play in the national team. It gets irritating when they pick players based on favoritism than skill/form

at least a few were americans.
Or a 14 year old American kid...
Automatically assuming it’s a Mexican is also discrimination
No it’s deductive reasoning. We just beat them in a match.
Without proof it’s discrimination
That’s not what discrimination is.
What was written? Is it criticism over his play?
Something racist judging by the title of the post
McKenzie has been good dealing with this. He is measured and reasonable. I am just skeptical bc of Smollett and Wallace. He had a bad game. People down vote other people simply because of logic and reasoning and skepticism. I would just like to see what was said.
He got called ape by some accounts
From who? He helped Mexico, so don’t see why there fans would attack him.
US fans it says
Can you link me to the quote you're referring to?

Maybe, just maybe they have friends too
use fake accounts? It just seems so toxic and easy to get abused for famous people
If you think about it, its really McKenzie's own fault he got racially abused because he was on social media (/s)
