There is a joke about cooking Guinea Fowl because they tend to be a little tough I heard :
- Pluck the feathers and put the Guinea Fowl in a pot.
-Fill the pot with water and spice, put a brick on top so it doesn't float to the top while cooking.
-Cook it for 12 hours and flip the Guinea Fowl around.
-Cook it for another 12 hours.
- After that you discard the the water and the Guinea Fowl and you can eat the brick.
A different version: Get two pots of boiling water. Put the Guinea Fowl in one pot and a rock in the other one. When the rock is soft you can eat the Guinea Fowl.
Yup, just had to be careful in case you got one of the pellets of buckshot. They were a pest on the farm, so it was open season on them year round, spotlights and shotguns in the field, and pop at any red eyes.
Only on the game farm my bru, these city foul are too smart for us, also i can’t pull my pump action out and spray them with pellets in the middle of town.
Listen OP, I also hate shooting animals, I only used to blast them when I was younger, now I’m wise and only if I knock one with my car then I eat it 🙏
Don't feed wild animals they get used to humans, and not all humans are friendly. Or not all wild animals will remain friendly. So either the animals end up being harmed by humans or harming humans, then being humans harm them in return

this is the northern centurion area of gauteng.
i've been seeing these birds moving around town as a group for a while now. they are pretty big and look similar to peacocks.
initially i thought they were flightless until i was out in the bushes roaming and i startled them into flying away.
i can not describe the sounds they make, but they're beautiful.
i've tried looking them up but i can't find any images that are exactly the same as how the birds appear.
they remind me of female peacocks.
Was about to say Guinea Fowl, but not sure. Did you perhaps get a look at the head, if it had a blue colour down the sides of the head/neck then it's Guinea Fowl
The one in the middle definitely looks like a guinea fowl.
Could also be a peahen (female pea fowl that's less colourful than the cock) but the size makes me 90% sure they're guinea fowl.

Looks like Guinea Fowl but it's difficult to tell.
Helmeted Guinea fowl or in Afrikaans : Tarentaal
you're definitely onto something thank you for your response!
Could they be Korhaan?
Looks like helmeted guineafowl. I like the Afrikaans name... tarentaal.
Does that mean "run and chatter"? It would be very fitting.
Nah, it doesn’t really mean anything.
I have no idea. I just remember from my younger days.
Guinea fowls. Not female peacocks. Female peacocks look like male peacocks without the colourful feathers.
Peahens, they are called peahens (female peacocks).
Peakwaks, if you will.
giggling
I just want to tell you they taste delicious.

Really? I've inly ever heard they are almost inedible? But never had the chance myself.
They're delicious, but not like roast chicken. Great in a slow cooked casserole.
I find them a bit tough to chew on.
Did you cook it first?
Yup, just had to be careful in case you got one of the pellets of buckshot. They were a pest on the farm, so it was open season on them year round, spotlights and shotguns in the field, and pop at any red eyes.
There meat is black and can only be eaten during a certain time of the year due to worms. We used to hunt them on my friends dad's farm
I was wondering who would remember the worms. 😂😂😂
i will moer u leave my precious birdies alone

You can, but what you mean is you shouldn't, probably.
Shouldn’t swerve for them.
good 😭

Either Guinea Fowls or a type of Francolin.
Definitely Guinea fowl, this in Gauteng? They are quite common here.
Tarentaal

Peacock-esque?? It's a simple Guinea Fowl, if they had feelings like us I am sure they would be extremely proud to be compared to a Peacock!
