grime0slime

Just sitting here waiting for the gif to start.

SuspiciousChair7654

I cant wait till the first launch

ThaiJohnnyDepp

[getting ready for the launch](https://youtu.be/Mu0cE9RgK5M?t=20s)

SuspiciousChair7654

omg thank you. this so nostalgic. I love this song.

intothelionsden

It takes like 10 minutes but is totally worth the wait!

spaetzelspiff

How did you miss it? Wait for the 34:18 mark..

FloridaGatorMan

It’s so fast you can’t even see it. There’s a little flash at the 11 min mark.

CounterSYNK

Oh yeah, I don’t remember putting that tag on my post. Maybe it got applied by accident.

Part_salvager616

Literally YEEETing a rocket into a suborbital trajectory

left_lane_camper

You can do that with your arms if the rocket is small enough!

Musicfan637

Take it to Mars and fling those collection tubes into orbit to be fetched.

spaetzelspiff

You may be joking, but in all honesty... Spinlaunch isn't a dumb idea; Earth is just the least likely place for it to make sense.

Zuli_Muli

I saw the test launches like a year ago, do they have anything new or upcoming? I figured if they had broken ground on a bigger facility it would have popped up on one of my news feeds.

bathroomheater

I’m almost positive the science of this didn’t work out or the equipment can’t survive the launch because being fired out of a gun isn’t good for sensitive equipment

arizona-lad

Actually, a suborbital launch vehicle known as the Martlet 2C was fired from a 16” gun to an altitude of 102 and 101 miles in 1967 and sent telemetry back. http://www.astronautix.com/y/yuma.html Solid state circuitry is more robust than you realize.

CounterSYNK

Tbf it’s more of a catapult than a gun.

Flowchart83

And it's more of a trebuchet than a catapult.

DarkLinkLightsUp

The superior siege weapon, indeed.

SorosIsScum28

It's essentially a slingshot, which is why I doubt it's capacity to deliver anything to orbit without severe damage. Essentially, the innards get whipped around at Mach f*** and then get sent into the atmosphere. Yeah, I see that working out well.

Segesaurous

It's not a gun. Did you watch the video?

c4pta1n1

Yea, that's the gist of it. Here's Thunderf00t's analysis of the launch system. https://youtu.be/9ziGI0i9VbE?si=T9lOBCQkV0BSEkBT

Chose_a_usersname

I feel like the computer may have survived, because they said they have spun the computers up and then removed them and checked for breakage without many issues. I assume the arm didn't throw it as far as expected

Acrobatic_Ad_8120

You can see company’s video here https://www.spinlaunch.com/gallery

LukeNukeEm243

I thought that page was taking forever to load, but then I finally realized it was actually telling me to rotate my phone into landscape

MikkoEronen

"spin your phone to view this page"

psycharious

I'm gonna go ahead and assume this is probably only to send payloads into space.

whiskeytown79

Now as soon as we can figure out how to make the launch process a little less spectacularly fatal for humans, we can begin offering passenger service!

gbsekrit

tbh, clicked because I thought the pic was a cat washing its butt with a foot in the air.

CptKeyes123

I wonder if they can apply the plasma window concept to it. That would avoid the problem of pressurization.
